Not sure if you picked a host yet but I'd like to recommend Hostinger.com - They're very very cheap, but have very good service that's comparable to other much more expensive web hosts. I'd recommend going with their base level Managed WP at like $2-3/month or something similar.

I agree with a lot of the aforementioned sentiments of "you don't need to buy hosting to start blogging", but if you do want to have some more customizability, the ability to use plugins and affiliate links, and other stuff then it may be worth looking into some cheap hosting to get your toes wet. Hey brotha. I just recently left Godaddy like a month ago and transferred my domain to Hostinger.com. Which, by the way, they're pretty dam good. They're super fast, very, very little downtime and incredibly priced.

The only thing with Hostinger is they don't have a direct phone line. You can only message them in real time if you have any questions or concerns. If you don't pay for their upgraded service plan then you'll have to wait 10 to 20 minutes before they initially message you. Even between messages they lag. Just saying. But other than that, they're awesome so far.

Anyway, I had some issues transferring my domain, due to my lack of knowledge but my transfer was pretty smooth nonetheless and happened relatively quick like same day quick. So don't worry bro, you can have your mother's website up in a jiff.
