Hello. My name is Tobi and I'm one of the two project leaders of the FOSS app personalDNSfilter. The other project leader is Ingo, and we both live in Germany.

Currently we are looking for a volunteer programmer/developer who wants to join us giving our app a total GUI makeover making it a modern app with a good UX. Our, or maybe let's say Ingo's app (he's the main dev) is a tiny, performant, easy on resources ad- and tracking blocker & DNS changer. We provide the app for free at Ingo's website, on F-Droid and on Google Play. On Google Play we got more than 100.000 downloads and a rating of 4,5 stars.

I'm not really a coder (I do XML GUI improvement, minor code changes, website & translations, graphic design, Google Play Store release of personalDNSfilter, support) and Ingo is pretty good at Java coding, but he is bad at creating nice GUIs with a good UX (he does the most coding... invention and concept, website and F-Droid releases, support).

We had some guys in the past writing us that they would join us creating a better GUI, but then nothing happened for whatever reasons. Please write us only if you have serious interest in working on a GNU GPL v2 FOSS app maybe long term. We have no financial interest, but get donations sometimes (it's really not much), and I guess we will make a donation version of the app in the future if we got a new GUI. You'd get a share.

We are doing this for fun. For the community. For a bit more privacy.

It's a quite interesting project, quite similar to pnsf but with more features and work totally on GUI. Although as a consequence the UI is a bit overwhelmed for me at first.

personalDNSfilter staff here. Did you know that the Java version of personalDNSfilter runs on Windows 10 too? There are easy to use scripts to install it (no GUI), and it runs as good as on Android. You can modify the config with a text editor and tweak everything to your liking. And if you need any help, just join our Telegram group.

Personaldnsfilter is very similar to pihole when filtering on mobile, i always check it after opening apps to see who they phone home too.

It's not something that complicated, I must say. It is an Android app like Blokada or AdGuard, that set up a little VPN in your device. There, you can disable native DNS server discovery and configure whichever DNS you want, enable ad & malware blocking lists and see current network traffic. I like it because I feel it is more lightweight than Blokada or similar apps, and is open source. Sure, it's not comparable to other solutions like uBlock Origin (for example, it doesn't have cosmetic filtering), but it does a decent job.

then edit the DNS, this is my personal config

make sure to tick "disable DNS server discovery"

then go back and tick "enable blocking" and "autostart"

now tap "restart"

make sure you allow the app to make VPN connection, dont worry it is safe as the DNS filter works using the VPN.

sorry if it is unclear, basically you can mess arround with the configuration, filter blocking, you can also use other server such as opendns, googledns, nextdns, etc.

i tell u once more, this is really useful app. every ads in almost every apps your phone will dissapear. except youtube, i recommend you to use Vanced to enjoy youtube freely.

Correct but that's not an app to which I've referred (DNSfilter != PersonalDNSFilter unless they've merged or I've got my names wrong) so I'm not sure why you're telling/downvoting me. I believe it (or a fork) also has OpenDNS integration to mitigate the VPN issue I mentioned.

If its something you think OP should look at let him know as a top-level reply so you know he will see it.

EDIT: I see OP changed his post after my reply to move from DNSfilter to PersonalDNSfilter. That explains why you are talking about a completely different product to me. PersonalDNSFilter hadn't been mentioned when I replied.

E claro evitar aplicações com permissões suspeitas, se instalas uma calculadora e pede permissão para aceder a tua localização, câmara, contactos e ler ficheiros do telemóvel, parece um pouco suspeito.
