I'm not a huge fan of the interface, but it's like a complete enema for your computer. It will clean everything, including shit you've never heard of like shellbags, traces in USN Journal, Super/Evercookies, etc., along with thumbnails, old windows installations, history in other apps like photoshop, and the usual stuff like browser history, cache, recently used files and stuff like that.
The initial scan can take quite some time depending on the usual things, but each subsequent scan speeds it up, especially if you do it often enough.
Privazer has been recommended by CK's Technology News as a replacement for CCleaner.
He also recommended HiBit Uninstaller, as an alternative to Total Uninstall, etc. I've used it and it works very well.

1 - You need to to clean that data from the registry, with a program like Shellbag Analyzer & Cleaner (after it scans you should only tick the relevant folder that you want to be forgotten)
There's also Shellbag Analyzer & Cleaner which does the same thing but also allows you to remove some/all of that information :)
ty nirsoft previous file recovery, though im not sure that will work without volume shadow copy already being setup correctly
try recuva from the same people who make ccleaner not sure what the limitations are as theres free and payed options
or theres a couple of tools which work for free in privazer
Full disk encryption is the best way. Doesn't delete the file fragments, but it unconditionally protects you from peepers.
Privazer has a good reputation. But they'd never claim miracles.
CCCleaner was once used too - but they were hacked. Perhaps not a good idea to trust them.
Was it a small cumulative update, or a big Feature Update (like the Anniversary Update)? The later basically re-installs the whole operating system, so you can expect for some things to be a little different.
Also, you might have maxed out your shellbag storage (cap is 5000). Try running Shellbag Analyzer & Cleaner > Analyze > Clean > check only "Deleted folders" to clear up some bags.

You can also right click the topmost folder you want to change > Customize tab > Optimize this folder for: > General items > check "Also apply this template to all subfolders"
