Are you on wayland? If not, try simplescreenrecorder. It should good enough job without much configuration. I used it on X11 and got very smooth frame rate without much load on processor. It does not work in wayland though, and I had to do quite a bit of optimisation with OBS to obtain decent results. I have r5 260x

There's a set of instructions for getting it on most popular distros. The git version in the AUR was in July 2020. You'll have to reach out to Maarten Baert to get any more info.
It really depends on the use case and the environment. If you're recording multiple sources (webcam, second pc, etc.), or want to take advantage of audio mixing, OBS is a no-brainer.
SimpleScreenRecorder is great, for simpler tasks like recording a software bug, but doesn't support Wayland compositors.
You can probably get your answers here - https://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescreenrecorder/
I'm using it on Ubuntu Mate 20.04 for work and at home for fun and family movies and it's great.
I use Openshot to edit.
A screenshot is by definition a fixed image (not video). Do you mean "you want to screenrecord (make a video) as you type in a terminal window"? If so, then here's an example: https://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescreenrecorder/
Hi!
Depends on your OS and DE but I use simplescreenrecorder to record gifs. There's also peek which is very user friendly but doesn't work great on i3.
Thanks!
Have you looked into Simple Screen Recorder at all? It's pretty much what the title says. I use it for making .webm clips when I'm writing tutorials for work stuff.
> I admire people who will take their time to download a post's picture,
Most browsers have "Copy image" option—I just copy-pasted the image into GIMP.
> open GIMP, open recording program, do the job,
I did this on my a Windows PC, where I have ShareX installed. I use ShareX all the time for work, so it is launched on startup and is running all the time. In my configuration, ShareX's workflow to record a region of screen is on Ctrl+Shift+PrintScreen shortcut.
> maybe cut the video and
This one didn't need any cutting, just "Ctrl+Shift+PrintScreen" and then click on "Stop" at the end—you can see the cursor moving to the left bottom corner at the end the video—that's where the "Stop" button is located.
> upload it to imgur
ShareX supports automatic upload to Imgur, but I have it disabled.
So it was very fast to produce and upload. On my Linux machine, I would have to startup SimpleScreenRecorder, since it isn't running all the time.
I don't know. It's just super handy for screenshots and you can edit it arrows, text, etc. I always use simplescreenrecorder for making screen recordings.
I do not normally make videos but when I do some Emacs demo I use screenkey (system package available on most distros) just to let people see any key I type on-screen.
To record the screen there are many option, used in the past personally: simplescreenrecorder (sometimes named ssr in packages) and byzanz.
Links:
To summarize: screenkey make keypress visible, ssr to record real video, byzanz to create short animated gifs.
Hope that help. For keys I do not know many alternatives, for screen recording and animated gifs there are many, perhaps some even packaged in Emacs...
Simple Screen Recorder is what I ended up going with - it's great!

sudo apt-get install simplescreenrecorder
Thank you so much. I also checked the comments section in that video and a comment led me to a quite in-depth article using JACK which i struggled with before. https://www.maartenbaert.be/simplescreenrecorder/recording-game-audio/#recording-game-audio-and-microphone-at-the-same-time
Thanks!
If it helps:
Game Conqueror - Cheat Engine.
Simple Screen Recorder. - Lightning fast screen recorder/encoding.
I've not used it myself, but I've heard really good things about SimpleScreenRecorder. It claims to be in the Debian 9 repositories so it should be available with Elementary.
Don't you know how to play? Just play and read the manual. Figure it out. It might take you minutes or a hour to get the feel of it. But play and click on things that's how I learn how to use all these Linux applications.

But do try out OBS. I heard many good things about it and everybody says it's better then SimpleScreenRecorder. I just like SimpleScreenRecoder because it's simple and did the job just fine for me. But I'm going to look at OBS someday.
