>Taiga is an open-source desktop application for Windows. It automatically detects the episodes you're watching on your computer and synchronizes your progress with online services. It helps you manage your anime library, discover new series, share watched episodes and download new ones.
It works with MAL, Anilist or Kitsu.
Taiga, my dude. The answer to every anime fan's laziness. It even has a torrent search and auto-download you can set pretty easily so I basically don't even search for my anime anymore.
You download the latest Taiga build ─which I assume was made specifically for this MAL issue─
That's an .exe, so you just go to your Taiga directory and replace the current one (Backup optional but adviced)
Run Taiga, Tools --> Export Anime List --> Export as MyAnimeList XML...
Go to AniList and Import
It has a lot of features, but basically it hooks into your MAL and you can view / update your list from your desktop without having to log onto MAL to do it. It runs super quick and it's fairly intuitive to use, I never actually log onto MAL ever for the purpose of updating my list since it's much quicker through Taiga (or other apps if I'm on mobile).
If you download episodes, it'll even automatically track episodes watched for you (you can also set it up to auto-download I think, but I don't use that feature).
Taiga is great for updating what you are currently watching, but you kind of have to go through season by season to add the stuff you already saw :(. You could look at the top anime and see if you've watched them.
I use Taiga which automatically updates my MAL every time I watch an episode so I rarely manually update it anymore. End up forgetting a lot of the time if I go see a movie that it obviously can't track.
Program that automatically track and update anime episodes in MAL/Anilist/Kitsu. It also helps you organizing episodes within your PC and also download everything you see with one click.
I've personally only tried PocketMAL, but I've been really happy with it and haven't felt the need to try any alternative so I don't really know, there could be better ones out there, but it gets the job done.
Also, you might want to install Taiga on your PC, it's a desktop client for MyAnimeList, and while running it also monitors all the open media players and browser window titles so it can detect if you're watching a show and offers to update your list for you automatically so you don't forget it. Also, if you like to download your anime, you can point it to your anime folder and it'll automatically recognize files for shows that are on your list and allow you to play the next episode directly from it. It's just incredibly handy.
(It can detect anything playing in most desktop media players and for streaming services: AnimeLab, Anime News Network, Crunchyroll, Daisuki, Plex Web App, Veoh, Viz Anime, Wakanim and YouTube.)
Just use it with Taiga. It's how I used MAL the past years and since it's the same interface, it's how I continue to use AniList. So, as long as I have my list, there is not a difference for me in using it.
Which is the better of the two, AniList or Kitsu? Not sure how much it'll even matter since I'd just be accessing them through their API's with Taiga
Edit: May have answered my own question. Comparing what each site's api supports here shows AniList might be the best bet for Taiga users. If you download your anime and watch it on your PC, you should check it out!
> Does it have any extra useful features?
I'm not really familiar with MAL Updater but by the name I'm guessing it only works for MAL. If so then an easy feature to point to would be that Taiga works with other sites. I've actually only recently heard about both of the programs because of the API being down for MAL. So I'm not actually that familiar with either of them.
> can it update manga list as well?
It doesn't update manga.
You can get Taiga, a program helps you manage your MAL. Easier to search and add to list. You just right click and then add to list.
If you don't know the title of the show, you can use the MAL seasonal page to find the title and then just use Taiga to add it. Much faster that way, IMO.
They would both have stored versions of your list, they might not be 100% up to date.
Of course that only works if you used them at all and if you don't know the names, you probably haven't.
AMQ - Anime Music Quiz - is a website where you can host a room for up to 8 people and when you start excerpts from anime songs are playing. You have to guess the anime they are from. If you synchronize your list you can change the settings to only pick from anime you've watched.
Taiga has a couple of features, among them it can synchronize your anime list automatically when you watch episodes.
Maybe you'd like http://taiga.moe/. You can link it to your MAL and change all the filters so that it downloads the shows you want. You may need to mess with the filters so that it only downloads a specific quality and only one sub group (HorribleSubs is usually the main sub group each season).
I'm not sure of the actual benefits, but I use it because it's super easy to transfer the anime to my phone (I have a large external hard drive so I have a couple hundred anime I can transfer to my phone at any time). It's also nice having it connected to taiga to auto track my anime. Also, no buffering
Might as well post this response from redditor Kruzy.
"There are several websites for that and each one of them excels at something different.
MyAnimeList: Most popular one and has the second best database after ANN. Customizable list CSS, decent search function, huge community and a lot of websites and apps to use with it.
AniList: Has the best rating system, small community and an IRC for people to chat. Updates and improves all the time but still needs a few fixes here and there. Offers probably the best list CSS customization.
Anime-Planet: Second oldest anime listing website that mostly focuses on recommendations and legal streaming. Great search function and a nice looking website that is being handled by a single person.
AniDB: Old looking website but there are plenty of themes to choose from. Takes time to get the hang of but offers a lot of features as well as tons of achievements to make watching more enjoyable.
AnimeNewsNetwork: Best database with an average sized community. Mostly focuses on news though.
I've tried them all out and I still think that MAL is the best one of them especially when combined with Taiga and MALgraph."
Also check out, Kitsu, Taiga and Good tracker sites ~
Like I said, try it out for yourself. I haven't actually explained everything about the program.
If you see the screenshots, you can see all the anime you have in the currently watching list. Middle-clicking one of them plays the video, and after a few minutes of having the player open, Taiga marks the episode as watched.
This makes it very convenient for keeping track of anime, compared to manually updated your list every time. I've also got a lot of torrent files in my client, so sorting through them to find an anime I'd like to watch is a nightmare I don't have to do any more.
As for RSS links, before I had to manually go to Nyaa and get the RSS link myself. In Taiga, all you have to do is have the anime in your list and it'll notify you when an episode is available.
I can technically do all of this myself, but Taiga handles all the dirty work.
You can download here: http://taiga.moe/
You just sign into your anilist, or kitsu account (no more MAL since the api is api).
You can use it to manage your list which I find easier than using anilist since anilist lazy loads the list and can be kind of a pain if you need to get to the bottom.
You also search for new series and view information about them. Which is also easier since anilist search is very limited and you only see a few matches instead of all matches (Taiga shows all matches).
If you have a local anime video library you can also track what series are available in your library and use built in torrent search function to download new episodes as they become available automatically or manually.
You can also use it to automatically update your watching list when you open an episode in vlc, MPC-HC, mpv, kodi, or pot player.
I just update both each time. Some people also like to use http://taiga.moe/ (its a program so it requires a download), which automatically updates all of your lists, but personally I don't use it so I can't say if its worth it or not.
I agree that MAL is kind of finnicky to add shows to, the absolute GOD SEND is this desktop app called Taiga http://taiga.moe/ I don't know if they have Kitsu functionality working yet (they did back when it use to be Hummingbird, but since they rebranded idk if they updated), but it runs excellent with MAL :)
If you're watching on a Windows PC you can use Taiga and it should automatically update as you're watching. It's also very handy if you ever put a show on hold or have taken a break from watching anime.
Do what I did, go through all anime A to Z. It took some time, but it was worth it. At least it was for me, because of how much anime I've seen. After filling out my list, I've been also using Taiga ever since. It's a pretty good program.
For anyone that wants to keep their MAL/Hummingbird lists up to date, like me, and you are on Windows. You can use Taiga. It made my life so much easier specially when you watch multiple shows and forget where you watched last.
Taiga is a program for Windows that monitors what you're watching in media players (and a few streaming sites) and auto updates your MyanimeList or Hummingbird list.
If you do watch something that isn't in your list, it won't update it until you add it but other than that it's pretty handy to have.
iMal is just an app on iOS (not sure about android apps) that you log in with you MAL account and you can track, rate or add shows and manga
lol I feel like I wasted your time, you can try downloading Taiga and Syncplay and experiment yourself if you want.
Taiga is an extension of MyAnimeList and logs the anime that you watch automatically, while Syncplay is a video sync program that syncs videos in a server so friends can watch anime together. A bit weebish, but I'm trying to make my life easier in the long run.
Thank you for everything!
Oooo, that looks quite nice, good job!
I think my biggest dream is to have something like Taiga, which can automatically update your MAL, although I'm not sure if that's possible with UWP limitations.
