Just to add, you can get much, much faster file searches on your PC by using a handy little tool called Ultra File Search. It's as fast as it is because it searches against the system file table, which it takes just a couple of seconds to load and crawl through, unlike the post-Vista Windows Search which (slowly) crawls an index, and the Win XP search, which worked really well, but crawled the entire directory structure of the drive, one folder and file name at a time. It's become one of my favour utilities, and I strongly recommend anyone else with a knack for misplacing files to give it a try.
It's because since Vista, Windows' file search has been based on a file index, which is a shit way to search for files. I recommend using http://www.ultrafilesearch.com instead, which searches directly from the partition file table, and is slightly more complex, but orders of magnitude faster and more effective than the Windows built-in tool.
