Swish trackpad on steroids. It’s $13 and worth every penny.
Keyboard Maestro emojis, symbols, all can be set by your favorite keystrokes. $36 or something.
Xtra Finder Finder with tabs, path, and many things more. $4.99
These are the only paid apps I use and they really worth their prices.
First off, there's a piece of software called XtraFinder, I think you'd really like it. It brings you things like cut & paste, folders-on-top, enter-to-open, and new blank file. This app doesn't replace Finder, it seamlessly adds the functionality to it.
>- Copying files is a pain in the ass. You can't CMD-X to move. Have fun dragging shit around.
You can, it's just not CMD-X/CMD-V like you'd expect. It's CMD-C/CMD-OPT-V. When you hold down option, Paste changes to Move Item Here. The best way to learn these things is to press modifier keys while menus are open...menu item names will live-update to the other things they do with those keys. Or use XtraFinder.
>- Launching files isn't intuitive from the keyboard.
CMD-O, or CMD-[DOWN ARROW]
>- Why does Enter/Return rename?
Because it's been that way on Macs since 1984. It's like why does ALT-F4 close things on Windows? Because it does...it always has.
>- There's not a way to see details on all files at once.
Yes there is? List view can have as many columns of into as you want. CMD-J will give you the view options.
Since no one's mentioned it, XtraFinder does exactly what you are asking, and so much more. I can't imagine not using it anymore. It integrates near seamlessly with the operating system. It even has cut/paste logic like Windows (command-X).
It is also working great on OS X El Capitan.
yes with xtrafinder https://www.trankynam.com/xtrafinder/
Thats terrible design on apples part, especially considering that there isn't any way to change that function. One size simply doesn't fit all and thats a major flaw in apples business model.
I doubt it (OnyX does not have a setting for it, so I doubt Finder does), but you can always use a tweak for that. TotalFinder and XtraFinder used to have it and most likely still do. ~~I currently have SIP on (trying to find out if my Mac will still randomly shutdown or not) so I can't check the tweak settings.~~ Judging by their websites they both still offer this. They both offer the regular Cut though, not the Trash-variant.
Both TotalFinder and XtraFinder do not work on 10.11 without disabling System Integrity Protection.

You can also copy a file path out of the text of a file's 'Get Info' window. Or use Xtrafinder.
You can use Cmd-K to open a connection to a server of a protocol like ftp or sftp or vnc or afp.
I use Spectacle for tilting and sizing windows. It was one of those features I couldn't live with out. I find the single window focus/switching tedious. Tiling interfaces are popular in other operating systems for a reason.
Every one can say don't make OSX act like windows. But I say adapt to your preferred style. I Chose an rMBP for the portability and the power under the hood. I dabble with Python. I work IT in the financial services industry in an all Microsoft shop. But I really enjoy my Mac.
One of the other things that drove me crazy was the sort order in Finder. Some times it feels like Apple does things to be different rather then ease of use. Not to say I don't like the OSX design philosophy I do. But some aspects just don't work with how I do.
XtraFinder is a great add on for Finder that adds a lot of what I missed.

Depending on your technical ability or just for simplicity sake you may also look in to CakeBrew to handle your brew installs etc.
Easy interface for searching, installing, and updating brew apps.
Another little utility I fell in love with was Caffeine to keep your system from falling a sleep. It's handy so you don't have to adjust the power options all the time.
Most every thing else I do through Vim and Python. Hopefully you find some of these utilities useful.
Do a clean install to your OS of choice (I'm running 10.9.2 without issue) and yes, you can still install FCP7 from .dmg files. Perhaps it's a 10.10 issue, this not being able to run .dmgs of FCP7, but it's just fine in 10.9.2.
Check the Time Machine backup to make sure it has all of your programs, etc, before you do gank it of course.
Edit- one gizmo you will absolutely want to download if you like the way color labels work is Xtra Finder because Tags are a piece of shit.
I tried it and it didn't run, because it looks like such Finder integration needs Apple Silicon compatibility. Per the release notes last year:
> Does not support Mac ARM. Please check updates in the future.
xtrafinder will give you Cmd + X capability (and optionally much better tabs and other goodies). Might be good for your soul. But I admit that I haven't used it recently - my last OS X was Yosemite.
It appears to suffer form the same issues as Total Finder, as both modify the Finder using code injection. The issue and workaround (turning of System Integrity Protection) is mentioned here.
I do Node and Ruby. No issues whatsoever. I had to reinstall Xcode on one of my Macbooks, but it worked fine on the other, both 2014 models. The only issue I could find is that Xtrafinder doesn't work.
hi write click in finder window and chose it from Arrange By > menu
if that dont work change in to list view and Sort it by name or .. then change back to icon mode.
