Same. I torrented and downloaded things since I was a kid and I never got any issues. I started torrenting big name stuff, Django Unchained and Game Of Thrones and more, and got warnings when i opened my web browser. they cut off traffic until i acknowledged that I had violated their policies. i started using Tunnelr as a vpn due to a promotion on reddit. If i remember correctly, tunnelr was a vpn made by redditors. I had a small discount from being a redditor but the service started not performing as well as i'd've liked, or maybe my perceptions of what a good VPN service should be changed over time. a reddit comment elsewhere suggested Nord, so I tried that a few years ago, and I've been consistently happy. I have been a regular user of NordVPN since before I started seeing it advertised or recommended in several different places. The app gets so many updates its almost frustrating, since i get the notification after i've already connected and starting doing things.

I recommend it.

Also, to bypass blackouts, I highly recommend Tunnelr OpenVPN. Made by redditors, cheap, and it works flawlessly.

Not at all. You don't even have to leave OpenVPN connected. Just turn it on before choosing the game, and as soon as the stream starts you can turn it off.

Tunnelr claims to only log anonymous data for diagnostic purposes, but such claims are only as certain as your level of trust and can never really be verified. The performance is pretty good. I don't have a frame of reference to compare them to other services.

Yep. And GameCenter only authenticates once so you can drop the VPN once the stream starts. I use the same VPN for but I have to keep it connected the whole time since authenticates at random times. Been doing it for years, no problems.

I use Tunnelr as my VPN service. I have a VM that I use just for streaming sports, so if I do have to keep the VPN connected the whole time, my entire machine isn't slowed down.

OpenVpn is just the client- you run it in order to connect to and route your internet traffic through your VPN service. You need a vpn provider, such as Tunnelr (not tunnels, damn autocorrect) in order to use it. You download the VPN certificate from your provider and link it to OpenVpn, allowing you to log in.

Another thing- never trust a vpn, proxy, etc that's service is free. Servers cost money, and if you're not paying to access them, someone's paying to access you

FWIW, I have been using Tunnelr for about 9 months and I love it. They are doing a moderate size upgrade right now (from 10 PM EST to 4 AM EST) and maybe some of your bugs get worked out. I checked my connection (from the McLean VA node) and I had no issues like what you saw during a 4 gig download.

The only problem I have noticed is I seem to have problems getting to the Pirate bay while connected to VPN, but I can get there via the Pirate Bay proxies that exist. (I rarely go there, but when I want to go, I want to go)

Have you tried switching nodes? With the upgrades taking place, apparently we will have to get new security certificates, but once those are in place, you will be able to seamlessly switch nodes if you encounter problems with the one you are using.

Could you explain the difference between PIA and Tunnelr in normal English? I have been paying for PIA for about a year now, and what I love the most is that my speeds are not affected by it. Would Tunnelr be just as fast?

I've been using Tunnelr since it launched and it is an awesome service. The web panel allows you to monitor your data usage and it's very convenient to switch the location of the VPN node you're connecting to. I emailed them asking for bitcoin payments about a year ago so I'm happy that they finally came around and implemented something.

Another option is . Its a redditor run VPN with servers in the US and Europe. If you select the US servers as your endpoint you get access to American content. The added bonus is that a VPN will encrypt all of your data between you and their server making it difficult for websites to track you since all the websites you access see the server as the requester for you and everyone else using that server as and endpoint. Great to maintain privacy in this day and age. Of course you have to trust that your VPN provider is not tracking you and selling your data. Tunnelr claims that they don't keep their logs more than 24h I believe.

Seems like Tunnelr has a support section set up where you can submit tickets, as a potential customer, they would probably reply to you quickly, and if they don't, you saved yourself time and money.

Service follows Support when it comes to tech.

You can watch Hulu by purchasing a US based VPN service or setting up a VPN service on a US based server. If you want to watch Hulu in HD then the latter is probably a better solution as you will be (for the most part) guaranteed sufficient bandwidth to do it.

For SD quality a hosted VPN solution should be fine.

I used to have Tunnelr for $5 a month, but they’ve been having issues and I’ve been locked out of my account for a week despite having paid. Wanna dispute with PayPal, but I’d love to have a new service before I do that.

I've been using Tunnelr for a few years now. It's worth checking out. I think it costs $50/year. They don't have as many servers as some of the bigger VPN services though. They had excellent customer service the one time I had issues maintaining a connection to one of their servers.

I've been using Tunnelr for years. Works on all of my devices: Apple laptops, Windows desktops, iPhones, iPads, etc. I'm not sure about the differences between a mobile vpn and a regular vpn, but Tunnelr works well on my phone.

Actually, is garbage and anyone wanting to get a VPN should try them first with a month to month subscription, so if they want to cancel, they'll be only billed a month. Today after reading this post and seeing that they have a Romanian endpoint, I opened an account connected to Romanian endpoint and got the speed of a bad dialup connection: few minutes to open a webpage. I also tried Sweden endpoint, and got the same thing... so I closed the account and asked for a refund (considering that they don't have a phone number on the website, I'm in doubt that I will ever see the money back). Tunnelr charges a little more, but not one I had a problem with them... happy that I didn't cancel tunnelr subscription before trying PIA which should be called PITA.

Ok, I could see where bitcoin would be I don't see how paying with a credit card for a Tunnelr service is incriminating. Sure "they" could trace your CC# to buying the Tunnelr service but then what? What can they do with that? You haven't done anything but bought a service that deletes logs anyway.

I definitely see the merit of your points, and I suppose they are good points to follow if you engage in copious amounts of piracy and other illegal activities.

For what I need a VPN for (circumventing local MLB and NHL blackouts), something like Tunnelr does the job.

Tunnelr with a UK endpoint, so I can watch all of the nationally blacked out games on weekends. I can watch every M's game at home and not worry about blackouts. Works like a champ. Totally worth the $7 a month.

I did exactly this based on an earlier recommendation on this board. Tunnelr works wonders, bandwidth isn't usually a problem, and I picked a server in the UK so I can watch games on Fox or ESPN. Next I'm going to figure out how to connect my router to the VPN so I can watch these games on my XBOX.

Not exactly. A VPN is used to connect outside computers to an isolated network. I use my corporate VPN to connect to my company's network from home. I use an OpenVPN subscription I have with Tunnelr to appear in different locations (mostly to bypass NHL and MLB blackouts).

If you aren't intimidated by tech-speak, the Wikipedia page on VPNs is quite thorough.

On your VPN client you have to define your route tables. I actually did the opposite - only usenet traffic through VPN. I did this by using a routenopull command and specified the IP's of my indexer and usenet server. This was using Viscosity client and Tunnelr VPN

Are you asking about VPN clients or VPN providers? Without more info this is what I can pull off the top of my head:

• For clients I would say check out either Tunnelblick or Viscosity.

• For providers I would suggest Tunnelr or WiTopia.

During the Tunnelr signup process they ask which node you're signing up for. Is this where you pick a region that you're not in, or do you select one that's closest to you and then go through another region once you sign up?

Either way, I wouldn't worry about it.

If you do decide to pirate in the future, just be smart and use a VPN proxy service.
