This match is for the Unofficial MLS Championship Belt, which is currently held by Toronto FC.
The belt can only change hands via win. A tie won't do it. This is Toronto FC's first defense of the Belt.
Regarding the options that Columbus brought to the table, Mayor Andrew Ginther talked about that on the 11-22-2017 episode of All Sides with Ann Fisher - it's at the very beginning.
What would their stadium situation be like? Their average summer high temperature is 105F. Would they share Allegiant Stadium with the Raiders?
I mean, I think it goes without saying that NFTs are absolutely fucking moronic, but I think this is a new low for milking money out of fans for something they don't even own.
If you want to see Zeus Jones' entire presentation on the branding options you can see here:

It seems like there were a significant number of Loon variations in there.
But don't worry, he didn't turn off the geotag on his instagram, so he's totally hiding where he is right now. Nope, he's totally not in London right now.
I used Figma, a free UI Design / Prototyping tool similar to Sketch. It's been really awesome to work with thus far.
I got the original images from each team's respective wikipedia page. The logo is an SVG (scalable vector graphic) file, which you can edit.
Unfortunately, I don't think this is proposed. This appears to be a concept done by an artist at First Cultural. I wish the US would adopt a high speed rail line, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.
*edit - Wikipedia doesn't make me any more hopeful
They're not wrong, take a look at the 10 day forecast's hourly temperature estimate: https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/KPDX
For context, our record high is only 107 back in '81. So we're going to break the record on Saturday, then again on Sunday & Monday.
I have zero issue with the hate, as long as it's rational, well articulated, and includes proposed solutions to whatever grievances are being addressed. Then there's this guy who is just the worst.
Timbers Army will occupy roughly 1.7% of the stadium. Ignore my flair and take this from somebody who follows MLS away supporters more closely than pretty much anyone - that's a joke. This is a cup final, maybe the last one some Timbers fans will see for awhile, not just an average home game.
Btw, the TA maxxed out its away allocation in Atlanta earlier this year.
The highest rated player is Lionel Messi (93 overall). Here are the top 50 players, a list that starts at an 84 overall rating.
To be honest, I find FIFA ratings a fairly decent approximation, but it's all highly subjective.
In case anyone is curious, the weather forecast for Saturday looks terrible at the moment. Thunderstorms all day then driving rain with winds out of the North during the match and temperatures falling to just above freezing. Anyone coming up from Atlanta to enjoy it???
It's gonna be miserable, but I'm gonna be there, yay! My wife on the other hand, lol, she already told me to forget about it. Still think my buddies are going, but don't know if they've seen the forecast yet, haha. (Good thing I have 4 season tickets for all of you attendance police out there!)

The Snickers ad was fantastic. Mashable actually put together a big list of what brands were tweeting after the bite and a lot of them were so funny: http://mashable.com/2014/06/24/suarez-biting-world-cup-brands/
I wont buy a Galaxy kit that says "herbalife."
I would gladly pay extra for a kit that doesn't say Herbalife
I know all corporations have their foibles, but Herbalife is truly scum of the earth

Approximately 3,849 flamingos, if purchased from this Amazon listing. Though at that point I wonder if you could find a bulk flamingo wholesaler...
How have you lived here for years, a sports fan, and not heard of KJR? It's been a sports talk station for almost 30 years. They used to broadcast the Sonics, they are the home of the Huskies, and a long time host Mike Gastineau even wrote a book about the Sounders.
Soooo excited. It took me about 2.78 seconds to RSVP.
When I started ATL Wants MLS in 2011, I was just dreaming of the day of this happening.
Ahhhhhhhh. I'm just going to stare at this and figure out a way to make it move faster.
>Jeff Agoos, the league's vice president of competition.
Wow, that's a name I haven't heard in a while. Happy to see so many old players taking up positions in the sport in the US.
This reminds me of this recent story about violence against women in Peru: https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2017/11/02/561414660/miss-peru-contestants-startle-peruvians-by-sharing-stats-on-gender-violence

Phoenix, Sacramento. Their highs are ~5 degrees hotter. Main difference is the delta breeze cools us off at night.
i am absolutely positive I read a story in the guardian(?) before the start of the year that said him and Sandy were renting a house together.

I LOVE THE EARLY SEADON TRASH TALK THREADS BECAUSE THERE'S STILL ENOUGH HOPE FOR THE UNION AND WE DON'T TRASH TALK OURSELVES JUST YET.
YOU KNOW WHAT'S MORE ABSURD ABOUT COLMBUS THAN THEIR PISS-STAIN KITS? THE FACT THAT THEY WANT A STATUE OF MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE. WTF COLMBUS? FIRST OF ALL, HE STOLE HIS CATCH PHRASE FROM A GIANT PITCHER OF RED SUGAR WATER. SECOND, WHO THE HELL BUILDS A STATUE OF FAKE ATHLETES THAT WERE ACTUALLY JUST ENTERTAINERS? THIRD, WHAT THE HELL IS A MAPFRE? AN INSURANCE COMPANY? ANY CHANCE THE CREW TOOK OUT A POLICY AGAINST SHITTY KIT SALES FOR THIS SEASON? I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE ALL THE OVERAGES SHIPPED TO AFRICA - WAIT, MAYBE THAT'S THEIR STRATEGY FOR ACQUIRING NEW FANS!
SPEAKING OF WHICH, WILL YOU GUYS EVEN BE ABLE TO WATCH THIS GAME ON TV SATURDAY NIGHT? I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU WANT TO WATCH YOUR TEAM LOSE YO THE UNION, BUT TO EACH THEIR OWN.
Exactly why MLS Live is such a ripoff imo. The games you want to watch most (your team) are usually blacked out. Because you have already purchased MLS Live, I would look into a VPN service like TunnelBear. Illegal streams are usually pretty low quality, so you didn't completely waste your money.
I don't know a lot about the NASL beyond what I read here, and a big thanks to everyone who brings up the topic.
But I can't help but thinking that this is a case of a person walking away from a job because he had accomplished everything he had set out to.
The NASL (in its current incarnation) is enjoying attention and attendance that is really remarkable, and I love the fact that people are talking about it.
Rising tide and all that.
I don't often wear my Baltimore Bohemians (USL-PDL) kit, but last time I did, I made a friend from the Baltimore area who couldn't believe I knew the team existed.
Here's where they play. The point isn't that there's no stand, but look at how many fields there are. Holy shit! How many kids are they thinking might need a place to play in an area roughly halfway between Baltimore and Wilmington DE?
The Bohemians' kit may be the sharpest jersey in the US. Better even than some of the Blackhawks' throwbacks, and those are sharp as fuck.
It's got everything I like: vertical stripes, local sponsor, beer sponsor, and local identity are all critical to the design. It's based on the damn seal of Baltimore. (And don't tell anyone, but what's essentially a U-20 team is sponsored by a brewery. That's fucking ballsy and all kinds of awesome. Shhhh. Don't tell anyone about that.)
My point is that under Downs' watch the NASL has bloomed as a league, signed up a marquee team from years past, and achieved a state of legitimacy not seen in almost 30 years.
He's stepping down because he wants to.
To answer your first question, I did this as fast as I could physically type. I actually started off at my normal typing speed which explains why the first few are somewhat correct. Eventually I tried speeding up because I didn't think I was going as fast as I could.
As for the second question, I didn't do this from memory. I opened up a separate tab of an alphabetical list of MLS teams and after reading the next team's name, I'd close my eyes and type the team into my text post. They were opened on separate monitors so I wasn't switching between tabs. I'm not that good at remembering teams' names but I wish I was.
And lastly, I'm not that bad at typing normally (I think). I just took a typing race to see how fast I could get and here is the result (86 wpm). According to this website I could be a word processor which sounds really boring. I think my main problem is that when typing really fast I'm prone to many errors. I typically just use backspace quickly when making errors but I decided not to when typing here. It probably is just that you're seeing every mistake I make on these.
Thanks for the questions
SOMEONE HASN'T DONE HIS/HER RESEARCH
WE'RE NOT SO DIFFERENT, YOU AND I
Starfire Sports Complex is a ways south of Seattle where they play all of the reserve games, US Open Cup matches, and Sounders Women games. It seats 4500 or up to 6000 with standing room.
Great question, and the answer is yes! The Toronto Blue Jays met President Bush I at the White House after winning the World Series
From the NASL media guide:
> A domestic Player for Teams domiciled in the United States and Puerto Rico is either a U.S. citizen, a permanent resident (green card holder) or the holder of other special status (e.g. refugee or asylum status). A domestic Player for Teams domiciled in Canada is either a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, a holder of a landed immigrant or a Player who qualifies as a domestic player in the United States.

Eh, its the PNW... if you're not a home brewer, you're running a screen printing shop for ironic t-shirts in your garage. Literally it looks like they took a pair of Rainbow Suspenders from the Amazon distribution center in Seattle, took it to a local screenprinting shop, had them do the One Nation lettering on it, then sewed it into an arm band. The longest part in the process was probably waiting the hour for the Amazon Prime Same Day delivery guy to get there.
Gets on soapbox
“Free” VPNs steal your data. They aren’t operating out of the goodness of their hearts. The same is true for free antivirus solutions. If you care about your privacy and security, never, ever use a free cyber security offering.
NordVPN is cheap, secure, and has city options. (And has historically worked great in full HD on ESPN+). They are having a 70% off three-year subscription deal right now that makes it cheaper than a tall late each month ($3.49).
So, it depends what you're looking for really. I personally use PIA, which has a whole bunch of servers you can hop between seamlessly. I still seem to get my full bandwidth through that one.
A lot of people also really like NordVPN.
I feel like those are the big two players, because when I started looking this stuff up a bit ago, there were so many VPN options that it actually became really intimidating.
Do you have MLSLive? If so, use the Mullvad vpn service. First time users get a three hour free trial. Route connection through Sweden or Netherlands. LMK if you have questions.
Glory to Columbus
Edit: Looks like MLS is blocking connections outside U.S.+Canada+Mexico, but you can still use Mullvad U.S. based servers to avoid a local blackout.
Bad news for those who only have MLS Live, but good news for those who have cable, as TSN has far better broadcast team than Sportsnet in my opinion.
edit: actually I'm pretty sure Canadians can get around the black outs by using Unblock-Us or similar service, as it may think you are in the US.
The Fire run Groupon deals a couple times a month, and have been all summer. I can't find anything about whether or not last night was one of them. Beyond that, I get an email some special ticket deal almost every game.
Jesus Christ people, I know we're all pissed off about the team this season, but not every action the team takes is a personal 'fuck you' to the fans. Maybe they just realize how horrible the team is and are doing whatever they can to sell tickets.
There wasn't a single day above 100 degrees last August. The max temp for the month was 96, and the average was 92. You are thinking of the "feels like" temperature.

But he design isn't specific, it's the opposite of specific. It's a general design for multiple sports.
>a sports stadium either purpose built or fundamentally redesigned for soccer and whose primary function is to host soccer matches, as opposed to a multipurpose stadium which is for a variety of sports. A soccer-specific stadium may host other sporting events (such as lacrosse, American football and rugby) and concerts, but the design and purpose of an soccer-specific stadium is primarily for soccer.
>a sports stadium whose primary (but not only) purpose is to host soccer matches. [It] may host ... other sporting events ... but the design and purpose of an SSS is to be centered around soccer.
I think most people would likely agree with those definitions, specifically that an SSS has to have the primary design and function of hosting soccer games.
Century Link doesn't fit the standard definition of an SSS because it wasn't designed primarily for soccer. It's a multipurpose stadium.
Looks like he played regularly over the winter but hasn't played in about two months.

same reason the Timbers Army won't change their whole "steal your women" chant to something gender neutral (so right now it only represents straight men and lesbians as fans)...
When someone accuses you of doing something offensive, it's jarring, especially if you had no intent to offend... It makes you feel shitty. And your options are either to agree that you've done something shitty (and by implication are shitty) or project it onto the other person. That the first instinct for many is to protest/object isn't that surprising.
It's really difficult to take a minute to distance yourself from the situations and see the other person's side. Empathy is a hard thing.
Steven Adams's misstep earlier this season is a good example of someone who didn't have the life experiences to recognize the potential for offense, but quickly accepted it, apologized, and moved on.
There are many traditions that involve crawling on the knees and none of them are pleasant (on purpose).
I'm not sure about this church but it wouldn't be all that far fetched.
Congrats Portland!
Sorry but a quick stadium expansion question. Longtime lurker so I know it's been discussed ad nauseam, but I for some reason can't find any info right now and it seems more relevant than ever.
Is there still no hope of ever expanding Providence Park? I googled and found an idea:
https://www.quora.com/When-and-how-will-the-Portland-Timbers-expand-their-stadium-capacity
I was wondering what the true local situation was. Can there ever be a higher capacity in that area or is a move absolutely necessary to be bigger? Thanks and congrats again!
Once again here is a link to a spreadsheet with various data.
Columbus once again is at the top with 19 appearances in TotW.
Castillo and Kamara both have 7 appearances each which is more than 5 teams combined.
I always feel a sick sense of irony when I hear those ads. There are terribly few actual DQs in the seattle area, and not one near the stadium or downtown.
A couple years back, Steve Sampson did an interview for Alexi Lalas where he really opened up about the whole thing, it was fascinating stuff, probably the highlight of Lalas's entire Mutant Gene podcast series. For anyone that missed it, I highly recommend going back and revisiting that episode.
Also, as Lalas was directly involved himself, he did a follow up response for his own take on the whole thing in a subsequent episode. I recall it not being as riveting but still worth checking out: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/308-the-mutant-gene-podc-28025130/episode/ep-7-52316-reaction-to-steve-sampson-interview-28025665/

Not a direct reply to you, but anyone who is interested.
I've done my best to push NordVPN to almost everyone I know complaining of the price. It's easy to use and for s 36 month package upfront, it amounts to $2.99/mo. Using it with ESPN+ amounts to a payment of $8/mo. and if you're using the Android app, there's plenty of gps spoofing apps to get around the region blackout
He said it during an interview I watched on CNBC's Squawk on the Street a few months ago. I couldn't find the full video but here's a bit of the relevant text.

Further for the entire month of June Charleston has got 4.5 inches of rain.

As I did last week, here is a spreadsheet with various data about Team of the Week.
Some random facts:
FCD has taken lead with most appearances.
There is a 3 way race for most Goalkeeper appearances.
SKC has the most defenders on the list. Melia is also in the 3 way race for most goalkeeper appearances. That has to speak highly of SKC defense.
Weather situation looks to be improving!
No rain forecasted until about 8pm now (versus 5pm before).
5PM update: currently raining within a few miles of the stadium.

Just to quote from the kickers FB page
"A couple of notes from this win: Sporting Kansas City were on a 12 match unbeaten streak, combined with never having lost a match at Livestrong Park. Before this season, the Kickers have never defeated an MLS team at their home stadium: this season we have 2 wins."

Absolutely fantastic documentary, highly recommended even if you’re not into surfing.
Currently streaming on Amazon Prime and Netflix.

Essentially it’s two surfers chasing the summer around the globe back in 1960s, sometimes surfing places that likely no one had ever surfed before.
There is an entertaining but not nearly as good sequel from the 90s where two “modern” surfers retrace the steps of the dudes in the original movie. It doesn’t seem to be streaming anywhere officially, but seems like someone uploaded it to YouTube: https://youtu.be/OiZb9uBV4GE

Next time we're through we'll have to check out that bakery though. This time around we had quite a few things going on, as you can imagine.
But, there is this whole weather.com article which explains the science behind naming winter storms. I mean, it's science.
Looking at this photo I took, it looks like it's right here. I'm not sure how many empties there are, but there should be a ton of unopened beer. My buddy left 11 or so unopened cans.
What are you even talking about? South Korea's president AND foreign minister both gave full credit to Trump. China only reluctantly helped because Trump threatened and then followed through with the threat of a trade war.
Even fucking CNN is reporting this. It's okay to be happy for good things happening even if it's because of Trump https://edition.cnn.com/videos/world/2018/04/26/south-korea-trump-north-korea-kang-kyung-wha-amanpour.cnn
Well, I disagree. Gressel is third in the league in key passes per match and second in big chances created. He's a top player in the league this year.
The reason why he has a lot of incompletions is, as mentioned elsewhere, a lot of his passes are crosses. Crosses are lower percentage passes, but they're low risk (in the sense that they don't generate a lot of high quality counters) and high reward (in the sense that when they are complete they generate chances).

For those of you with MLS Live wishing to watching the game...
One the stream is established, you can turn off TB and watch the game!
It's got 5mil+ downloads on Google Play. I use the Pro version, which has 10000+ downloads. I enjoy the app. Has a load of different leagues. Can also listen to audio broadcasts of certain games.
Fairly frequent updates as well.
Great job on the master spreadsheet. However, there is one thing I'd like to see: a fixed header so I don't have to refer to the top when scrolling through.
In Google Docs, you use the "freeze row" feature. I have an example right here.
Looked further, and on their FB page they have this same image with this heading:
"For all you Founders' Circle members, be sure to lock in your sponsor by end of day Friday. For those who locked in, who did you get?! PJ's Lager House? Green Dot Stables? Motor City Brewing Works? Detroit Greencycle? Pure Detroit? So many solid choices!" and this link.
A previous image of the shirt has this heading: "Attention: April 9 is the last day to lock in a replica kit with a customizable shirt sponsor on front. Purchase your Founders' Circle before April 9 and you chose which of our shirt sponsors your jersey will feature! Detroit Greencycle? Slows To Go? O'Connor Real Estate and Development? PJ's Lager House? Michigan Green Safe Products? Green Dot Stables? Motor City Brewing Works? Whole Foods Market? The list keeps growing. Purchase by April 9 and support Le Rouge and these great businesses!"
So much for posting this to Reddit ahead of time! According to the facebook page there will be an online store up "soon" with the shirts and scarves.

That is such an excellent documentary. (You might also want to check this one out when it's finished: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/931854303/goal-the-incredible-journey. We hear the coaches are pretty hot.)
From ehow.com Don't hate, it's a pretty good explanation.
The Rules
With the exception of the last two minutes in each half and all of overtime, a coach can issue a challenge for a play he feels is unfair. The referee then has 90 seconds to review the play via instant replay and determine if it stands or not. There must be compelling evidence to overturn a call--questionable calls are very rarely overturned. Each coach can make two challenges per game but cannot make a challenge if his team has no timeouts remaining. Should the coach lose the challenge, his team will be charged a timeout. If a coach is successful on two challenges, the team receives a third challenge.
Reviewable Plays
Not all plays are subject to a challenge. Passing plays, sideline plays, goal-line/end zone plays, field goals and detectable infractions are subject to challenge when necessary. Coaches cannot challenge the status of the clock, downs, force outs, recovery of a loose ball, forward progress or inadvertent whistles. (The list is not limited to such plays and remains at the referee's discretion.) Officials in the replay booth can order a replay in the last two minutes of each half and all of overtime.
The Flag
Originally, coaches could signal a challenge by the use of a pager or by throwing a weighted red flag onto the field. The flag was supposed to be a fallback in case the pager didn't work. But a number of coaches--most notably then-Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher--preferred using the flag because it left no doubt as to the coach's intention. With game play moving quickly and a challenge impossible after the next play has started, it made more sense to toss a flag onto the field.
Not sure for the ramifications for soccer yet, but the big thing as you can see above is setting the guidelines for when it can be used.
Note: VLC is great for totally legal stuff too. In my opinion it's the best media player out there right now.
The U10 Derby Community Cup in 1998 ended with 2 penalties scored to 1... in the 33rd round of kicks.
I only know this because this article mentions it as a footnote at the end.
CenturyLink Field does something cool on google maps too, just zoom in once.
Wow, you're right. I didn't realize the humidity levels were so significantly higher. I did live in Riyadh. And I also lived in Kuwait City, Kuwait, which is on the coast and never humid.
I've never actually been to Doha, but I figured it'd be similar.
more like 85 degrees F with 80% humidity, which is not outrageously oppressive but still very draining. The larger point is that Clint isn't the type of athlete/body you put at center forward and have him play with his back to goal with a defender nipping at his heals for 90 minutes. He's a high usage creator that needs to receive the ball in space and go at people. JK doesn't get that.
Try this one. For some reason, you have to specify international sports.
https://www.sling.com/international-sports
What sucks is that if you want to combine the regular US sports stations (like ESPN family) with international sports, it actually costs around $35 a month. I called Sling and complained and said that's bullshit - it's all sports. They said we understand your concern and they will let me know if they make any changes.
I know a lot of people dislike the blackout policies, but I got to watch every game last year with the below.
Set yourself as Canadian and you get all the games regardless of local or national blackouts. Also, you can get access to BBC and Canadian Netflix (which is sometimes better).
At 4.95 a month (or the price of a single beer), you can watch all the games for a decent, low amount.

cheers, that would be a big help. I came across an instructions page that I haven't read through yet but looked promising. https://developers.google.com/chart/interactive/docs/animation
Only thing I didn't see is a way to export/share it. It would be strange if you couldn't...
for MLS kits, i've actually found FCD's official store (online) to be more reliable and better than i can find anywhere else, and it helps that they have in-store pickup. like right now, their online store has all kits, blank and customized, for $20 off bringing them down to $70/$90. ymmv of course, and i have a feeling NYRB don't have the same problems getting kits sold that FCD does. but at the very least, official team stores aren't rip-offs.
otherwise, someone posted recently a quick survey you can do to get $20 off at soccer.com, which does have MLS kits available. survey is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com%2Fs%2FZZ3MG9R&h=XAQGJyC4Q . i took the survey on monday, i think, and haven't received a code/card yet, but i think someone said in the thread that they're going to get them out either on or by 7/22.
edit: lemme try another link....https://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.surveymonkey.com%2Fs%2FZZ3MG9R&h=XAQGJyC4Q .
Last year I had decent luck using ESPN+ with NordVPN. Using both it came out to $12 a month, I think. Which isn't great but still better than the $50+ a month YouTube TV costs. This year I just don't care enough to go the VPN route. Gonna miss Wednesday's game against RSL because Lakers.
