Awesome Pop-up Video can do PiP for youtube.
Just share any YouTube video you want to it and it'll start a popup video.
I can recommend Awesome Pop-up Video.
In the youtube app tap the share button select Awesome Pop-up Video and it opens a resizable and movable videoplayer
I use Awesome Pop-up Video. For local videos, I use a file browsing app to select the video and open in Awesome Pop-up Video. Youtube videos work too, but you'll have to share the video to the app. Another alternative for youtube videos only is Newpipe, which can be found on F-Droid. You can either use Newpipe itself to watch videos or you can still use your Youtube app as your default youtube app, but you'll have to share the video to Newpipe.
Twitch won't work with Awesome Pop-up Video. Only alternative I can think of would be splitscreen.
Similar to this app here, this has the ability to playback all videos in a popup no matter the source when accompanied by an Xposed module
Awesome pop up video can play it. Just click share link and select awesome pop up video. App is great while browsing Reddit. Watch the video while reading comments.
I've switched to opening YouTube links in a movable, resizable, floating video which you can have with Awesome Pop-Up Video. It's faster, leaner and I don't have a giant YouTube process kicking apps from RAM.
I can just have a non-important playing at the top while I scroll down my Twitter feed and still have it playing over any app that I may jump to.
I also have a browser shortcut to the subscriptions page for the rare occasion where I sift through my subs on a phone.
The YouTube app is the new Facebook app.
<strong>Awesome Pop-Up Video</strong>: Let's you open YouTube and other videos in a pop up player. Got a big update like yesterday. Works even better with Xposed.
<strong>AppChat</strong>: Chat with random strangers in groups who have the same apps as you. It was huge a couple of days back but the heat has died down now.
<strong>AtomicLauncher</strong>: If you play a lot of Minecraft: Pocket Edition, this launcher is sort of like the F3 screen on Minecraft on PC. Currently crashing on build 9, looking forward to a fix from the dev.
<strong>SMSmart</strong>: Do you have unlimited text? Browse Twitter, Maps, news, Yelp etc only using SMS, no extra charge. Only works in US, Canada and UK I think.
<strong>The Button for Reddit</strong>: Keep track of the button's progress on /r/thebutton
<strong>Phonograph</strong>: Probably the best music player. Puts Google Play Music to shame with all it's animations on Lollipop.
<strong>Another GIF Please</strong>: The Tinder of finding hand-picked GIF's.
<strong>Sixaxis Controller</strong>: If you're rooted you can connect your PS3/PS4 controller wireless to you your phone with the help of a PC tool, provided on their website. If not rooted, it also works by plugging in the controller to your phone, as long as your phone supports OTG.
<strong>ePSXe for Android</strong>: A PS1 emulator.
<strong>Energy Tank Battery Widget</strong>: A versatile and comprehensive collection of 8-bit/16-bit battery widgets. Love them.

Relay | Simply the cleanest, smoothest, most beautiful Reddit client out there. I bought the pro version in app to get rid of apps and support the dev. |
Sleep Unlock | This is the prime version of Sleep as Android, my sleep tracker. I turn off the alarm via the NFC tag in my bathroom, track my sleep via my pebble watch. Worth every penny. |

Titanium Backup PRO | I think this was the first app I bought, not sure why. But Titanium Backup is the most useful app I ever bought. Backs up all my apps and data to my SD card, including contacts and texts. Wish it would back up my call history too though. Nevertheless, definitely saved my butt more than a few times. |
TuneIn Radio Pro | Got it on iOS, I think the only app that transferred my pro version to Android. I forgot the difference between pro and free, but this app is great during studying to listen to soundtrack radios and classical music. |
Weather Timeline | Prettiest looking weather app with the prettiest clock and weather widgets. |
My favorite paid apps, although the subscription based ones are probably not of much interest to ya.

Tasker | Has quite a learning curve, and needs some creative thinking to fully utilize in your daily life, but after that you really begin to appreciate this tool. Used to automate things, make life more convenient, be more productive. I have it set up with some nfc tags to: put my phone in nighty night mode or turn on my pc when I come home, both by just me tapping the nfc tag with the back of my phone. |

YNAB Classic | Syncs with the YNAB pc program. Everytime I purchase something it gets recorded in YNAB. It's a budget program, great for getting a grasp on your actual money situation and for keeping yourself accountable. Basic principle is that you assign every dollar you have to some thing, no lazy dollars allowed. Relieves anxiety on whether you have enough money for bills. The app is free, the pc software is $60 with a free 34 day trial. For students it's free completely. New cloud based version was just released, that is $5/month. |
Of these I would recommend Awesome Popup video. Super convenient on your phone or tablet!
I literally just posted this in another thread ha. These are my favorite and must-have apps, paid for all of them myself.

Textra | Bought it solely to support the developer. I think the prime version gets rid of ads too. Great texting app, looks pretty with features and stuff. |
Use Awesome Popup or something similar?
This seems to get the job done.

Any of these would do the trick!

I noticed people asking for alternatives.
Xposed Framework has Awesome Pop up Video.
If you don't have Xposed framework just use this:
And then Youtube Background Xposed Module. And you now have floating youtube and playback when the phone's screen turns off.
Side note there is a Twitch Pop-Up video as well! Currently PLEX is not supported with Awesome-Popup
There are apps on the Google Play store capable of that, for example this one.
Awesome Pop Up Video https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.datanasov.popupvideo
No apps are needed to keep the phone running smooth. All you need is Power Button + Volume up until the phone vibrates three times. It clears the cache.
Since you are on Android for the advantages let me recommend a few things.
On Android you can use a file manager to copy and paste things. Great with a microSD card for pictures, videos, and music. Might I suggest Mixplorer: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=4350495&d=1512240951
You can watch YouTube over other apps using Awesome Pop-up via sharing button. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.datanasov.popupvideo
Boost for Reddit is my suggestion for Android Reddit app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rubenmayayo.reddit
You can download YouTube videos and play them whenever! Videoder app https://www.videoder.net/
For Video Player apps, I equally suggest MX Player and VLC. MX Player I like more. VLC I keep around because it updated already to do Picture in Picture over other apps. When MX Player gets the next major update for PiP, I probably will exclusively use that.
So many photo editor apps out there that it will take months to find the best one. I found and stuck to this one. Highly recommended. It is obvious how much effort the maker put into it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iudesk.android.photo.editor
Awesome Pop-up Video does PiP for Youtube. And rootless too! All you need to do is share a YouTube video to it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.datanasov.popupvideo
You can always get movies, music, books! But in case you are looking for apps, these are my favorite paid apps that I actually use regularly:

This still exists: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.datanasov.popupvideo
first you wanna make sure that the picture in picture option is on. check settings > youtube > picture in picture > allowed
if you live in the US it's all done! just quit the youtube app and it'll continue playing the app while you are surfing the web or....
but if you don't live in the US you probably need a vpn. i use the vpnify app which has been working for a long time and whenever it stops, an update will bring it back alive. haven't seen a free vpn app better than this. so you just choose the US server and you are good to go!
if you don't want to use a vpn but want the youtube to play in your background you can use the awsome pop video app.
awsome pop video app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.datanasov.popupvideo
vpnify app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vpn.free.hotspot.secure.vpnify
