You made me want to look into that. Apparently someone created a biodegradable ball that has a fish food core. There'd be some monster fish at the course I play.
Give us the Vermont guy, I’d like to send him a box of all of our favorite syrups; Mrs. Buttersworths, Log Cabin, Aunt Jemima, all the greats.
Edit: whoever we get is getting this putter, no matter what’s on your wishlist, trust us we know what’s best for you:
this was a real Amazon listing I found tonight while looking for one of these.
Update: Here's the Amazon link for more Photoshop glory: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MLLBB2B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_DAPODb2JPF49B
Mythbusters had a golf episode, where they tested the "A tree is 90% air" myth.
For those that don't want to watch the video, they determined you only have about a 25% chance of a tree not impeding your shot, if you choose to "hit through it".
with just you using it it will last you a very long time, it's a worthwhile purchase.
FYI, I really like the callaway practice balls, they have a good feel but don't go as far as real balls. They do go farther than whiffle balls but not nearly as far as real ones. https://www.amazon.com/Callaway-HX-Practice-Golf-Balls/dp/B0026A6YIO/ref=sxts_rp_s1_0?crid=G8HRBMPPOVBZ&cv_ct_cx=callaway+practice+golf+balls&dchild=1&keywords=callaway+practice+golf+balls&pd_rd_i=B0026A6YIO&pd_rd_r=1f9f4c7b-ef...
So I went out on the back nine before the grounds crew (I coordinated with the Pro and Super a few days early) and was able to play 9 holes of speed golf. I very much enjoyed it. Here is my equipment and notes:
Ask any questions and I will be happy to answer them.
Edit: Keeping score was a little difficult for my level of play without a scorekeeping device. I averaged double bogey (normally a bogey golfer) in 43 minutes. So my score would be 54+43=97
Edit 2: The pins were not out yet, so that made the short game much harder.
I saw this book recommended on here and it's a pretty easy read which has done wonders for my mental state during a round.
Looks awesome, nice work!
You might want to consider grabbing some sort of cup to catch the ball though, as training yourself to leave the ball exactly in the circle might translate to leaving putts juuuust short on the course...
I've got these, and they're a perfect, cheap, solution... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WLJDPCB
Happy putting, go low!
hey dude, it's all gonna be ok. golf is about way more than what you score.
I highly suggest you check out /u/golfsidekick on youtube -- he made me love golf again by learning how to play stress free.
Also maybe you would like to read the book 7 Days in Utopia. I will send you a copy if you want dude (or give you $12 gift card to buy it).
Groove Tube is worth every penny!
Avoid trying to copy someone else's swing and get the lessons.
For now, pick up Ben Hogan's Five Lessons book then read it cover to cover twice. Once through and then a second time trying to do it step by step. It's not long, but it boils down the basic moves really, really well.
Next read Golf is Not a Game of Perfect for the mental side of the game. It helped a lot to learn at least a bit about the mental side of things.
I bought this cooler off Amazon - it fits perfectly into the shoe pocket of my bag and holds 9 12oz cans of your choice plus a freezer pack.
Edit: also look at the actor in the golf cart in the last picture
Do you light it up with your phone? Or do you charge it with a UV flashlight?
Hard as a rock, doesn't go quite as far, but works great for the first few holes of very early tee time.

Holy crap. Since when did Bing get better than Google?
Buy two of these on Amazon and stick them in the sides of your bag. Once you get past the starter I just put them in the basket if I'm riding in a cart.
I use a ball with the outside 2/3 removed. Here’s the link it’s $40 for three and something like $20 for one. It really helped my stroke on the ball.

I can’t believe this isn’t higher up. Cedar shoe trees are amazing. I served a mission in Brazil for two years for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and we did A LOT of walking in dress shoes. I had two pair of shoe trees that I would switch off every day. My shoes never smelled bad.
What a lot of people don’t understand is that it’s the wood, not the scent of the wood, that makes them work so well. It wicks the moisture away from the shoe. The structure of the shoe tree also keeps the shoe in good shape by not letting them curl up.
OP, get yourself a pair of cedar shoe trees. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016N75HOW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ABe9CbZWVMKBM
Thanks sticks. OP, happy to chat to get you pointed in the right direction. You can schedule a call with me at https://calendly.com/gunghogolf. Also have some articles at https://gunghogolf.com/articles which may help.

My match said he liked cleaning his clubs, so I bought him this. Amazon says it was delivered yesterday. lol maybe he didn't like it.
I know a guy that got a free bowl of soup when he bought this one
I’ve played for 25 years, never used plastic until last year. These tees I buy on Amazon just do not break. 25 Would last a year as long as only used on drives. It’s insane.

For par threes I’m a broken tee guy, just grab one from the box.
This comment is stupid. Correctly performed heavy lifts do not lead to health problems, cause injury, or shorten careers.
If you're referencing Tiger's issues, you should probably factor in that he was jumping out of airplanes with Navy SEALs, check out Haney's book, or Act II of ESPN's recent article. The part about learning CQD and Duane Dieter is particularly interesting:
> Sometimes a guy threw punches, to the body and head, and Tiger would need to free himself and draw his weapon. At first, the instructors went easy, not hitting him as hard as they'd hit a SEAL. Tiger put a stop to that and soon they jumped him as aggressively as everyone else.
Spread your FUD elsewhere.
For the “wet” hands try this:

I use this all summer long in 100% humidity in south Florida. My glove doesn’t even get wet.
As for grips, any standard size grip should be fine. Even young kids can use a standard grip, so they should work. If you are worried about grip try a corded grip
I looked up Sports Baby on Amazon and this was the first listing. I'm guessing this wasn't it.
>Why do people hate the belly putter ?
It's days are numbered.. Here is another recent view.
Technically it's called "anchoring" as the end of the putter makes contact with another part (the belly) of the body "steadying" it. This gives an advantage (debated) over those that use the a putter without "anchoring."
My big problem with it is that it does not provide a fair playing field, because it becomes more about the equipment than player skill. So when Scott made his putt this afternoon, I was questioning not who had the better skill, but who had gained an advantage by using a fundamentally different technique.
Wish he did it weekends as well :( But still love seeing these posts!
Also I have a IFTTT which gives me a pushbullet for each of these threads:

I bought this on Black Friday and it was about $115. Has 3 heat settings and a timer so it will auto shutoff. We also have a MR Buddy propane heater that we use for general garage heating. It's been warm in Colorado but between the two of them it takes about 15 minutes to heat up and after 30 minutes you can turn them off for a while.
Actually it's $35.19 on Amazon PrimeDay for the KaedePro. Still really cool, i've never heard of these and they look pretty neat.

Seconded, however DO NOT RELY on the magnetic attachement thing, replace it with a metal zipline type keyring thing, I lost four Groovetubes before doing this.
Also, I like to put a drop or two of detergent in my groove tube, really cleans nicely rather than just water.

i think micheal collins sums it up well. i don't mind the booing of bad shots or just the booing of the europeans, it's a unique event and that's just the spirit of competition. it adds to the atmosphere, golf can use all the home "defense" it can get. but don't be a twat and try and make it more than just a friendly rivalry. i often wonder if people that do this or act this way are even fans of the sport, it's a shame
Wildcat for sure. They have 2 different courses (Highlands & Lakes) and is really close to where you live. There's even a Groupon for it. https://www.groupon.com/deals/wildcat-golf-course-1-1
There's also a really cool course called Tour18 in Humble by the airport that has replica holes from all over the PGA Tour and it's reasonably priced.
An absolute must play is Moody Gardens in Galveston. It's right on the Gulf and lots of water and true links style and just an absolute blast to play.
Every club in my bag was a hand me down no-name club. I've played for about 13 years now and shoot an honest 100 (no mulligans). I've never spent even $1 on a club.... all were given to me from friends or family throughout the years.
This year I was lucky enough to get handed down a used callaway ft-5 driver. Wow.. big difference. I just goggled my old driver knight mach 1 and it looks like someone tried to sell one for $2.99 and no one bid. lol.
Next week I'm inheriting a set of callaway irons and hybrid that are only about 5 years old. Kinda excited to see if these will make a difference... it's going to be a long winter waiting to find out.
Do yourself a favor and read this, if not the whole book. Rare moment where ESPN allowed actual journalism to be published under their name.
Why not try other, smaller mini tours? They offer quality competition to test your game so you can see how close you really are to becoming a full time pro golfer.
> The first fairway alone requires such a precision, long drive.
Ehhh, except not really. It's only 430 yards from the tips. You can tell from Rickie's alignment he's just aiming over the trees on the right and blasting it. If it misses right and drifts into the fairway on the Green Course on the right, no biggie.
Rickie parred the hole every day. In fact #1 played under par for the week and was the 5th easiest hole on the course.
I've played the black 3 times. #1 is the least of your concerns.
Except that it was determined by the officials that was NOT the applicable rule, it was covered under 14-5:
> A player must not make a stroke at his ball while it is moving.
And rule 1-2 states
> An action expressly permitted or expressly prohibited by another Rule is subject to that other Rule, not Rule 1-2.
IN ADDITION, the penalty for violating rule 1-2 is the same as 14-5 UNLESS the committee decides that that it was a serious breach, then they MAY impose disqualification. So for Phil to be DQ'd, rule 14-5 would have to been determined to NOT have applied at all, then it would have been determined to have been a SERIOUS breach of 1-2, and even then they still had the option to DQ or not. But some people just want to ignore all that so they can be outraged. Phil acted stupidly, but the ruling was correct.
Reviews are fishy, with the same review being used for multiple & unrelated items: "Silly long irons" shows up for a Ping hybrid, a Callaway and a Cleveland wedge, etc. Just reeks of keyword stuffing.
Site does not seem to have been updated lately: New Year's sale in the end of February, and a Santa Claus still in their main site logo?
Site traffic is super low (link to Alexa): could be ~~their~~ they're brand new and unestablished, but the fact that they're that low raises a red flag on its own.
I tend to think it's better safe than sorry, so I'd stay far, far away from this website.

This one is pretty good looking too
You can buy them on Amazon for around $80 all day: https://www.amazon.com/Gogogo-Sport-Rangefinder-Magnification-Correction/dp/B07PV5QRLD
Sure they're nice to have on the tee box, but where they really shine is looking up the distance for random objects. Such as, how far out is that bunker? Or if you're like me, I'm always punching out of the trees and I'm trying to figure out how much room I have on the fairway before I roll out to other hazards.
You'll also find it really nice to have in the 50-120 yard range. A lot of those depths can be extremely tricky without a range finder. You would be shocked at how far off your best guesses are.
I promise you, after 1 round you'll wonder how you ever played without it.
In Extraordinary Golf, Fred and Pete Shoemaker said two things that might be relevant:
1.) That each time you step up to a shot, it may turn out to be the best shot you've ever hit. That is, despite a bad shot or string of bad play, you never know when a great shot will happen. But you can't force it. You have to let go of whatever has happened before and allow the possibility that the next shot could be extraordinary, and;
2.) Why do you (we) really play golf? What is the true underlying reason we're playing? Is it competition? Score? Exercise? Comradery? You need to understand your real motivation for playing and accept that you can often find what you are seeking regardless of how well you play.
For example, I came to realize that I use(d) golf as an escape .... a way to set aside the everyday world of work, money, problems and responsibility for 4 or 5 hours. That is absolutely not dependent on score or play quality. If I can remind myself of this, it's easier to not allow tension, frustration or anger to build up when I'm not playing well.
Corollary to the above: If your true purpose is to only play for a 'better' or 'perfect' score, you will be perpetually frustrated.
I bought a skytrak last March (talk about timing).
I have a Spornia spg-7 net: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079P7WZPH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_4XM83G6YDJA9TDJT8FX9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
It’s ok. The original hitting screen was super cheap and the tent poles were questionable. I purchased their available stuff to replace the screen as it ripped within a couple months and the newer one is much thicker and better quality. It’s easy to setup and take down.
And I bought a Gorilla Perfect Reaction 4x5 golf mat.
Overall, if you can spend $2500-3000 and you have 10-15ft of open space, I highly recommend it. I use it right outside my back door and it’s freaking awesome. If I went to the driving range 3-5 times a week, that’s $60...so it’s more than paid for itself already.

Note: I won't be back online this evening, but I'll get back to you or anyone else who PMs first thing in the morning.
Thanks!
Breaking 80 is still on Amazon. I like mine, though it was cheaper when I bought it.
Amazon has a very affordable travel bag for $55 that definitely gets the job done. Also recommend getting the BackBone for additional support (it extends in the travel bag as added protection for your clubs in case the bag is thrown in head first). Linked both below.
I have flown with my bag a few times, and strongly recommend a travel case. You don't need a $300 hardshell travel bag, you can get a decent soft bag off amazon for ~$50. Soft travel cases have some extra padding and maybe a compartment or two for your shoes. I also don't really trust luggage handlers throwing bags around when loading/unloading. I suggest making the small investment to protect your clubs.
This is the one I’m looking into. Anybody here have any experience with it??

Recycling from my post last week:
Swing tempo app on play store:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tempopro.golf
Very basic easy to use app, plays 3 sounds in a 3:1 swing ratio, 4 different speeds with sounds or vibrate mode. Will play even if screen is locked so can put in your pocket and carry on.
Now updated to include a 2:1 ratio for short game / putting, again 4 speeds with sounds or vibrate.
It also has a screen where you can monitor your own ratio by pressing at the 3 stages of your swing. This can be difficult but if you record a video and slow it down, you can use this to work out your current tempo. Can also watch YouTube videos of pro's and see what they have.
The app is £2, which is 10x less than the equivalent Tour Tempo app.
I too had this problem. To the depth that my vision would be distorted and my ears would ring to a deafening pitch. No matter how many times I competed or sport I competed in it wouldn't go away. It was out of control.
Knowing it was a mental issue out of my scope of understanding I went in a search for a solution. I tried meditation, focus, disassociation tactics, etc... Nothing really worked. Though my research though I ran across Dr. Steve Peters and how he helped Ronnie O'Sullivan. I had nothing to lose so I read his book and followed his principles. Saw almost instant change.
It's been years since I've read it, but the overall message is you need to recognize when your brain is taking over and why. Question what is happening and why then have the confidence in yourself to overcome the portion of your mind that is taking over and get it under control.

that line is completely wrong. that's where he was when he played 10 the first time. In the playoff, he was 30-40 yards farther back, which you can tell from the position of that fairway bunker in the shots from behind him as he hit the shot.
You can get a better idea of where he was watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSi_koC1Jto
EDIT: as best I can tell, he was closer to the green mark in this image, while the red is where he is in the OP. http://tinypic.com/r/3fplu/5
While others are addressing this question, I'm interested in where I can find the woman that golfs with me. I haven't seen any of those available in the golf stores around me...
On a serious note, best thing to do for discount gear is to wait for blowout sales at those stores (end of season) or just hunt online on eBay, rockbottomgolf, etc. Like most products, it's hit or miss with timing.
You can also use product price watchers like Hukkster (https://www.hukkster.com/) and Camelizer (http://camelcamelcamel.com/camelizer) to track product prices for stores (Hukkster goes to any store/website, Camelizer I believe is Amazon specific)

Generally the true waterproof shoes are pretty expensive. Only thing I’ve found that’s not super expensive (like the Adidas Tour 360) but still great quality is New balance. It’s $100 and I never had issues with water when I played them for a year. Super comfortable too, like all new balance shoes.
This is exactly what I do as well, pack clothes into the heads then snap on the rain cover and that keeps everything nice and snug.
I also got this for my soft case. Works great and protects clubs from impacts to the tops. The soft case and this combo is WAY cheaper than a hard case. https://www.amazon.com/JEF-Protector-Travel-Support-Protection/dp/B06VW6JF1D/ref=sr\_1\_5?dchild=1&keywords=club+protector&qid=1622224142&sr=8-5

This is the set I picked up this year after getting back into golf for the first time in about 15 years. It does the trick but once you get hooked you'll be looking to upgrade different clubs. Just ordered a new putter and a new bag is on the Christmas list. But its a good starter set. Won't break the bank and if you only use it a few times a year you wont feel guilty about it.
Edit: Actually my set is the Ultimate very similar but includes a 5W, 5H, SW and a blade style putter instead.
I posted this in another thread, it's my current winter setup:
Cliff notes version is that it kicks ass.
I bought one of these from ebay:
I think my total after shipping was about $90. Then a bought a 4x8 sheet of PT plywood and a few PT 2x4's to build the base. The reason I bought that particular item was that it came with a 'hitting strip' which is the only bit you really need to be hittable, I just liked the idea of a full grass top on it. My total cost was maybe $120-130. I have a tarp I tie on it, then just pull it off when I want to whack balls into the woods. Pretty sure it's weather safe, but this makes it easier to clear off the snow etc. I just cut a chunk out of the putting mat and inserted the hitting strip. This way if the hitting portion gets worn out I can replace it easy enough. I've hit a ton of balls off it so far and it still looks brand new. It can even take a tee if you want to use one.
I'm not sure that he still auctions the 4x8 putting mats (with 'free' hitting strip) but you can just buy the hitting strips themselves. You'll have to work with it a little so that the hitting strip is the same height as your stance. If you're doing it on a budget, just buy some thick rubber matting to build up the height where you're standing and put the hitting strip at the business end.
Generally speaking if you want something durable to hit off you'll have to spend a few bucks. The best thing about the one I have is that it really is quite thick and padded so you can 'hit down' on it without blowing out your elbow. If you buy just a 'strip' it's best if you have something to attach it to otherwise it just wont last as long.
From a historical perspective, I really liked "The Match" by Mark Frost. It's about a 1956 best ball match at Cypress Point between the amateur team of Harvie Ward & Ken Venturi vs.... Ben Hogan & Byron Nelson! Great read with many different perspectives about the match itself and the circumstances that led to it.
Afterthought: what would a modern day version of this look like???

Not sure if you are kidding or not, but that is exactly how the cross section of the ball looks from the costco website.
Morning everyone. Sending along a link in case anyone else is suffering following yesterday and today's hours of inactivity and laziness.

Assuming these numbers are true and not made up like 64% of the facts on the internet:
1 in 6MM odds is a probability of winning = 0.0000166% - think of that as a 99.9999834% chance of losing. I rounded these to 7 numbers to keep things easy, there's a lot more 6s behind that first number. That's 4 zeroes after the decimal.
379k users in r/golf - we know they're not all active but for the sake of it being extremely small numbers anyway we're gonna use that.
379k goes into 6MM 15.83 times
So .0000166 / 15.83 = 1.0486e-6 or move the decimal ahead 6x to get .00000104865%, or a 99.99999895135% chance of it NOT happening. 5 zeroes after the decimal.
But that's only figuring for 1 in 379k.
2 in 379k = 1 in 189.5k
189.5k goes into 6MM 31.66 times
.0000166 / 31.66 =5.2432e-7
Move the decimal ahead 7x to get .00000052432% chance of 2 users in r/golf getting an albatross. 6 zeroes after the decimal.
I think I did that right and started with this website to get my initial percentage.
Aside from the Whistling tool I used to have which was posted already, a friend of mine had this Swiss Army one. It's still probably the coolest thing I've seen.
Just saw this one
