For the weather/clock widget, I agree and think that was one of the best parts about Sense. Luckily, with beautiful widgets you can get something similar

The widget is beautiful widgets. and the skin name is "soul eater" based on the anime. The moon looks equally awesome.

I'm sure there are others as well. As I scroll through available widgets on my phone there are a lot of 1x1 Widgets in the list. Some are just shortcuts to do things but a lot of them update to show information.
