Well put. You can't underestimate the difference a simple button press can make when it's a button you need to use dozens of times a day.
I generally type exclusively in English, but the keyboard I use - TouchPal (OP's article | Google Play) - claims to support using two languages simultaneously, as well as cycling through languages (and these two language bundles) by swiping the space bar. It appears to be an elegant system, and holds up under my basic English + Spanish tests, but I would love to hear your perspective as a multi-lingual typist.
Every few months or so I try SwiftKey out again in hopes that it can remain stable, smooth, responsive. It always degrades shortly after installing it and so I look elsewhere.
Kii keyboard had been a favorite of mine for a while, but the app has been removed from the Play Store.
I have been using TouchPal (you can ignore the 'Cute Emoji' bit in the app's name – it does feature extensive emoji support, but the barebones keyboard is the real hero of the app). I've been using this app for the better part of this year and have decided it's the best one I have ever used. It's got decent customization, great responsiveness, consistency, and some extra bells and whistles such as swipe-deleting words (swipe left from the backspace to delete the current word). I highly recommend this app.
Touchpal has some built in. Just scroll up the space bar and click on the emoticon button.
For a more extensive selection, there's the Japanese Emoticons app. You can make your own kaomojis on this app as well.
I've been using TouchPal for a while and it works great. The emoji is a different button, so it doesn't get in the way (even if they promote it in their name). Plus, you can just swipe the spacebar to change languages. Very useful!

TL;DR: TouchPal
IMHO TouchPal is the best keyboard and has a very good (auto) correct and checks your spelling. You can also add special dictionaries besides just languages, for example for financial and medical words and even sport. Not just in English, also in other languages as well like in German.
Unfortunately it shows some ads... you can turn most of it off in settings and some of them if you get the yearly subscription. It still has some red dots as indicator for new themes or other stuff. Recently they also add AppLocker and a Battery-Lockscreen which is really fucked up... ELSE it's really the best keyboard which has tons of crazy options no other keyboard has. For example they have Cloud prediction/correction, built in search, cursor control, resize and split keyboard, Kaomojis and Emojis art, tons of themes and lot more.
I personally didn't find any replacement for this app, the only app which is nearly good (except) correction is the recent version of the Google keyboard and for correction Swiftkey. All other keyboards are either slow, use too much resources, have bad or no correction, the button placement is strange, lag etc.
TouchPal keyboard doesn't like DPI changes, so you can't use it if you change your system DPI. That's why I can't use it anymore :/
EDIT: "TouchPal, an application with 340 million worldwide users, has proved itself the most popular and reliable keyboard with the award of a Google Play Top Developer Badge. Less than 500 app developers worldwide have been recognized with this designation."
I tried this keyboard for about an hour yesterday and concluded that I still prefer TouchPal's extensive configuration options and functionality. This is a huge step for the Google keyboard, but I think TouchPal still has it beat for now.
If you decide to check out TouchPal, don't let the "cute" aspects of the Play Store page throw you off. All of that "cute" stuff is included, but is completely optional. Bare bones, TouchPal is an amazing keyboard.
I'm guessing from the screenshot the user has an Android. From the icon on the bottom left it looks like the TouchPal

Not entirely sure what you mean by preview, but here's the store link
u/peterpeca suggested touchpal . This message brought you by SwiftKey. Seriously never had this issue recently, usually an update will fix it quickly for SwiftKey.
Try using TouchPal for a keyboard app. I use it because you can customize the background, color, transparency, size, etc. Also, it's awesome at memorizing stuff and it has the swype feature for fast one-hand texting. You can backup your "user dictionary" and export/import it to a new phone, or if you reset your phone. Awesome stuff https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cootek.smartinputv5&hl=en
You need to dig into the keyboard settings and see if it's possible to not remember every new word. It may not be possible on all keyboards. If it's not then you need to look at getting a different keyboard
TouchPal allows you to do this - just untick the "Automatically save new words" option. This allows you to type whatever and the word will only be remembered if you press to add it to the dictionary after (if it's not already in the dictionary that is).
Yeah, the prediction on the stock keyboard is awful. I kept getting "with" corrected to "27th" or something and "dont" corrected to "font"!
I couldn't find an alternative keyboard I liked - until I swapped to TouchPal. Lots of neat features, so many options and settings and it is so much faster than the stock keyboard!
Ever since I started using TouchPal I've been singing its praise. Very quick and very customizable.
TouchPal shows up as compatible with Wear 2.0 devices: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cootek.smartinputv5
TouchPal has great customization options and great suggestions and includes a T9 layout :)
I'm using TouchPal since a few years, and I have the feeling it does exactly that.
I don't know when they put the ads in but the Play Store listing shows the TouchPal keyboard contains ads: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cootek.smartinputv5
I think from the icon at the bottom TouchPal

The developer also makes their keyboard available for download from the Play Store, with ads. It seemed that someone checked the wrong box at some point during an update which triggered it on HTC phones.
This is the keyboard:

HTC apologized immediately.
Touchpal is the new swiftkey.
