I think you could just rig up a set of leveling blocks for your bed as low tech solution. Just use a bubble leveler there are even apps for that and stack short pieces of wood under the bed supports until it's level. Just need to make sure it's stable.
This may work but I'm really unsure. I saw this question taking about calibrating a sensor. https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/59532/how-can-i-calibrate-the-tilting-sensor-on-android An app that was suggested is called bubble level and supposedly it can calibrate your sensor https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.androgames.level&hl=en Hope this helps
Recalibrate your gyroscope - If you on iphone, it's in your compass app, if you on android download a spirit level free app and hit calibrate while the phone is lying on a level flat surface.
This app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.androgames.level&hl=en
I don't own a Nexus 9, but is there a calibrate option in settings?
Edit: If you don't, you could try this app that iirc can calibrate the gyroscope: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.androgames.level&hl=en
You can try this app to callibrate the accelerometer.
Bubble level app for phone is great to carry around too : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.androgames.level&hl=en&gl=US
