There's an app that will enable and control Android's native Night Mode implementation:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farmerbb.nightlight
Doesn't require root, but does require running a adb shell command to enable the setting. Even includes the Quick Settings toggle
I'm going to recommend Sync for Reddit. No issues at all on the N preview and a ton more features than the official app.
From what I heard, the latest Magisk Snapshots work. Haven't heard anything about SuperSU, though.
If you want to try SuperSU, I'd flash the latest beta.
Lawnchair 2, it's basically the stock launcher but with more customization options, I used it to remove the ugly text under the icons for a cleaner look. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.deletescape.lawnchair.plah
You could use Island https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.island&hl=en and it aims to attain the same purpose, but without the bloat (or with native performance).
I haven't tried on Android P yet, but enabling an accessibility service fixes the issue on other Android versions.
There's a dummy accessibility app in the Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mikemathewson.dummyaccessibilityservice
Maps crashed for me too, every time i searched for something or i clicked something that would open the bottom sheet.
I fixed it by setting chrome as the webview provider in the developer settings. If not, disable and then re-enable the chrome app. Close Maps, empty cache and storage and maybe even restart your phone. Maps is fully working now.
In exchange for that help: could someone check and see if the NOS (dutch public news app, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.nos.app) crashes for them as well? Especially if you have clean installed DP2. I wonder if my DP1>DP2 update created this problem and whether a factory reset would solve it.
It's gone. Either use an app like Twilight or wait for Night Mode Enabler app on Play store to be updated so it can return.....
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.prospectu1.nougatnightmodeenabler
I recently did this and was surprised at how many of my apps had manual backup/auto backup. only had to sign into a few apps and thats it.
Chrome Dev is like an alpha version for Chrome, you can get Chrome Dev on the Play Store here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chrome.dev
Idk if this works with Chrome Beta since I don't have that installed, but it doesn't seem to be available in regular Chrome yet.
All you have to do is be in splitscreen mode with Chrome open, long press on a link and it'll show the "Open in other window" option. If you already have another window open then it'll make a new tab in that other window. Very handy!
Starbucks ver 5.4 on apk mirror works with Beta 2 - on pixel 3
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/starbucks-coffee-company/starbucks/starbucks-5-4-release/
I'm using v10.22.7.0 because I hate the new layout with stories and DMs in the same list. I'm on DP4 and don't have any issues. You can give that a try.
I can confirm that downgrading to v.10.25.0.0 from APK Mirror works for now. Just make sure you uninstall any other version of Snapchat before installing this older build.
Use 3.0.2-0.
Or perhaps don't flash TWRP at all. You can simply boot the TWRP recovery image when you need it (fastboot boot twrp-image-filename.img
), e.g. for rooting right after flashing a new (factory or custom) ROM. Best of both worlds--this way you can do whatever you want and enjoy the reduced amount of pain in the ass from interaction with various things...
If you like that and use Instagram. Try out a third party Instagram app called instanter. It gets rid of ads and sponsored content on your feed. I'm finally able to see everything on my feed without an ad showing up every three posts.
If you mean the one with the number, unless you really have an app that has such a name, it's an app you've removed quite recently (or was removed somehow, such as after an update).
I think it's an annoying bug, so I suggest you to report about this here:
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/new?component=190923&template=841312
If you wish to keep track of your removed apps, you can use this app (will show them only from the moment of installation) :
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lb.app_manager
I see. So a restart was needed...
Can you please try the same on this app (and restart the OS), which lets you choose the colors you want, no matter which wallpaper you choose:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lb.lwp_plus
?
So the files app is not going to be the default file manager in Android 11, it will be the other files app (the one that helps you clean up remaining app says.
Dont want to install with one of my apps not working... Can anyone try the Tello app just to see if it doesnt crash upon launch? DP3 crashed as soon as you opened the app...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ryzerobotics.tello&hl=en
Just had surgery and having fun with this toy drone lol
There's an app that does universal copy using the accessability apis, maybe you could give it a try: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.camel.corp.universalcopy
I have it as a quick setting tile for easy access, but now I won't be needing it anymore.
PSA: If you're having trouble with any apps that use WebView bring unable to use it and/or crashing, you need to uninstall Android System Webview from the Play Store.
GSam Battery Monitor might be worth a look. I have the paid version, and it has all those features, I can't remember if the free version does or not.
App's name is Round Corners. :) It has some configurability to it, including how much of the corners you want to round off as well as there's alternate frames to go into the corners.
I attempted to replicate the Caffeine tile in CM13. It's still in beta, and I made it purely to play around with the new API (and it's my first public app in the Play Store! Woo!).
It also has a tile to change the sound profile between vibrate and normal. I added that in because I found it to be handy, and am surprised we don't have it yet :P
Have you tried to use the camera app from Pixel 4? It does much faster https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/camera/camera-7-0-009-259843690-release/
Hi! That's my photo and my Pixel 6, and it's not actually a weather app's widget, it's third-party. It's one of the presets in Kombine Material You Widgets, a widget pack for KWGT. The preset name is Harmony Weather. You need KWGT Pro in order to import presets from packs like Kombine; if you don't wanna pay for it directly, it's part of Google Play Pass.
looks like Transparent Clock and Weather. It's very moddable so I could see this being a customised version.
That said my TWC is tweaked so i don't get a forecast stuck to my screen all the time, hardly helpful to see the weeks weather at a glance every time you look at your phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.droid27.transparentclockweather&hl=en
New Android Auto on APK mirror today, interested to see if it changes anything..
There's a new version on APK Mirror that's somewhat better. Text is legible now, but icons are still black-on-dark-grey. Obviously a work-in-progress.
New Google Photo APK fixes some of the issues with dark mode, but not all.
Android Auto 3.5 has fixed it for me, no drop-outs for a 45 minute trip! (normally 5 to 10 black screen/music pauses at least).
Check out APKMIRROR or wait for it to appear officially on the Google Store.

Finally!!!, been on the Beta for Months with unstable AA the entire time
The new V4A Magnum Opus thing with corresponding Magisk module gave me bootloops on ODP3. The files linked in this post work perfectly, but I realised afterwards that I'd been an absolute spanner and dirty-flashed the wrong factory image to get out of that bootloop, so I've only tested them on ODP2. Planning to re-upgrade again later and try these files instead on ODP3, so I'll update this post then, but V4A works on ODP2 at the very least.
EDIT: Works fine on ODP3 with the above zips, as long as audio_effects.conf is deleted from /system/vendor/etc/, and SELinux is set to permissive (I used this module).
It didn't take long to get the invite. I signed up for the Beta ( https://www.android.com/versions/pie-9-0/digital-wellbeing-beta/ ) shortly before you messaged me with the link, and just got the e-mail from Google minutes ago. Signed up, Installed, and thought I'd check the link again, now its working (since it shows me as being a beta tester for it.) :)
Good stuff.
I'm using this one at the minute but it won't change still, the one you linked won't either, dunno why.
Edit: just seen it was updated nearly 2 years ago, maybe that's why it won't work.
Download some high quality nature images of whatever and put em in a folder. This app is much more lightweight than Bing anyways
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.wallpaperChanger
It's the new SIM/e-SIM network strength icon with phone icon to indicate you have cellular signal strength and can make calls through it.
You can remove that icon using System UI Tuner, Just download this App and toggle off Mobile Data option under Status bar section, It will remove the indicator icon from status bar.
It's from this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.simonesestito.ntiles
It's called caffeine, and when you toggle it, it prevents the phone screen from going to sleep. Also if you do decide to use it. You can enable an option that untoggles the toggle when you put your device to sleep manually. It comes it handy. When I'm referring to my to-do list, or listening to Spotify.
Thank you. This is my main spare time app, BTW:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lb.app_manager
Then I created an app that is for rooted devices, to put photos from WhatsApp into your address book:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lb.contacts_sync
And then this app.
u/TheRoadKing101 I almost flashed back to Android 12 but found that OpenConnect works on the beta and allows me to connect to my workplaces AnyConnect environment https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.github.digitalsoftwaresolutions.openconnect
>play.google.com...
from which country?
it is available over 70 countries but not all.
its playstore link:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apphane.iyasam
I use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jim.sharetocomputer
You select the file/s and it generates a URL for you to type it into a browser and download the files. It's pretty handy.
Alternatively, use sharedrop.io
I have an easy solution but you have to be willing to install a simple and free app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.iudesk.android.photo.editor
Basically you share the group of photos with the option "make pdf". This app will probably let you delete a whole lot of other stuff, it's the most complete and lightweight around to manage photos in batch
How could it be a bug when I have circles (from Pixel launcher, ex Facebook messenger app), and only had this launcher for about 2 weeks, and my other icons for 6 months + have been this icon set - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jndapp.line.x.iconpack
?! I only see circles in the burn-in, not this icon pack.
It looks like this one called "Blue Splatter" on the Backdrops app (I don't think I can link to the photo directly tho!)
Can you try this app?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tmobile.grsuapp
it apparently downloads automatically if you factory reset it with an tmbobile or tmobile-mvno SIM card...
Don't know if self-promotion's allowed, but I wrote a quick little quick toggle that may be worth checking out.
Won't fix the fact that it's not automatically switching for live wallpapers, but if you'd like to manually set the theme, it'll do just fine.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aecampos.android.devicethemetoggle
This helps, but only while in the "first stage" of the notification shade.... once you swipe down again, it goes back to 3 columns unfortunately.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zacharee1.systemuituner
Use this and you can do all kinds of customizations: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xda.nobar&hl=en_US
Hoping for an improvement on that as well. In the meantime I've configured the fingerprint sensor to trigger split screen on a swipe from right to left with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.aecampos.android.fingerprintgestures
I desperately want to go back to DP but one of the apps I used crashed upon opening in DP3...
I tested this on my Pixel running Android P dev preview 2. I had my coworker who has a Pixel 2 on Oreo try it out, and it worked too. Maybe it was just an Assistant/Lens app update? So it could possibly work on older versions too.
For questions about my home screen, I use Nova Launcher and I still prefer that over the Pixel Launcher (Home screen gestures for shortcuts man)
I got my wallpaper from r/EarthPorn here
And I'm using a Pixel/Round icon pack (not sure which, will find out and add link if anyone wants it)
Check out the Bluetooth auto connect app. That allows you to enable the media audio upon connect. That might solve your probleem.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.myklos.btautoconnect
Yes, there's an app that also allows that. It kind of takes a screenshot and uses the accessability apis to read the content, very useful and now it's built in the overview. Here's the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.camel.corp.universalcopy
It might be a problem with the launcher. I've been testing Lean Launcher recently and haven't had issues with disappearing widgets. Try it out. It's like the pixel launcher but customizable and open source: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hdeva.launcher
I found that newly created message threads do respect your desired notification configuration. One workaround might be to back up your texts (by using something like SMS Backup & Restore), delete them from the phone, then import them again. This might be faster than manually toggling vibrate on every thread.
I thought the infinite loop you describe for the Messages Settings > Notifications path might be because it's a shortcut to a menu that is reached through another part of the OS (like App Info or the Settings app). But that is not the case. That menu can only ever be reached from the Messages app, so that infinite loop is a menu design flaw.
Choose from these two icon packs, the definitely solved the issue for me. It doesn't mess with icons, it's just the stock picture without totally useless squares or circles around them. Google icons are also back to normal.
Except for the Play Store icon, both icon packs are identical to stock Android 7:
Moonshine (everything is stock! except for Gallery and Play Store. Love it): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nexbit.icons.moonshine&hl=en
MaterialOS (I don't like what it does to Calendar and Calculator, not everything is stock): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.materialos.icons&hl=en
Moonshine seems the best choice if you just want the normal, stock unique icons in their normal size without messing around, as they were meant to be.
Yeah, I inferred that was the actual question. It's rather unfortunate that the team misinterpreted it. You might be right about it being a separate team handling that limit in the app.
I haven't tested it yet, but I wonder if the app Open Camera is also held back by this 4GB limit as well? Curious if it grabs a value somewhere in Android's system that says the device default is 4GB?
I found out the 4GB limit when I recorded a 2 hour lecture in 1080p, which of course split my videos among 6(?) separate files. It confused me for a bit, because I thought the internal memory was formatted with a native Linux system. I wrongly concluded that they must have formatted an $800 phone with an old FAT FS.
Maybe I should chat up the Google Support team and ask if they are aware of the issue?
alternatively, some might be fine with just dirty flashing the pre-rooted DP5 over an existing MM build (with working TWRP). TWRP will stop working when you flash the DP5, but it'll already be rooted, with your data intact, and you can use Flashfire to flash anything else you need (Adaway, etc)
You could just use Twilight
No root required and has automatic settings based on sunrise/sunset and it automatically adjusts these times based on your location and the time of year.
Amazing, it works! lol
This is the first browser to replace Root Explorer on my phone since Android 2.1, we had a good run.
I don't own a Nexus 9, but is there a calibrate option in settings?
Edit: If you don't, you could try this app that iirc can calibrate the gyroscope: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.androgames.level&hl=en
I recently go out with my nexus 5 running M DP2, no problem with GPS.
I'm using 7 Ways and a 3rd party map though.
