If you really want to push your phone to it's limits and use just about every piece of hardware in there check out Clandestine: Anomaly! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zenfri.clandestine
Check out our game Clandestine: Anomaly. It's more or less a tower-based strategy game. The trick is that the game takes place in your neighbourhood at real GPS locations around you in a 2kmx2km play space.
Everything you build in the game can be seen by looking through your device in the real world locations, as well as characters within the narrative, crashed alien space ships, and the alien antagonists. Should you travel to the missions real world locations you'll be able to add an extra layer of strategy to your experience with the first person Recon mode.
Our game draws influence from Starcraft a little bit. We use the whole resource management and fog of war in our tower offence/defence, location-based augmented reality game. The AR stuff is totally optional, but can make for interesting breaks at work.
Our game is a new spin on classic Tower Defence. You not only defend, but also actively seek out the enemy spawn point to destroy it. It has a fog of war and limited resources like StarCraft. You're always having to manage your resources as you look out into the darkness.
Oh yeah, and the game map is your real world GPS located neighbourhood. If you go outside and go to the mission locations youll be able to see everything you've built as well as the battle that rages there in first person with Augmented Reality (think Hololens on your phone.) In that AR mode you can also call in airstrikes and use various tactical abilities. The AR stuff is totally optional and the game can be finished without ever going outside. That being said, if you put in the extra effort, you get the reward.
It's called Clandestine: Anomaly. We just released on Wednesday.
Screenshots:
C:A was co-written by Joshua Ortega (Gears of War 2) and has gameplay design by Lori Hyrup (Dark Age of Camelot). Our art direction guided by concept art from artist Doug Wheatley (Star Wars: Dark Times), and Chris Bourassa (Darkest Dungeon)!
You should check out Clandestine Anomaly. It's a hybrid location game / tower defense.

Our game is like that, although it's not a traditional TD game. It's called Clandestine: Anomaly and in it you'll be defending your real world neighbourhood with location-based augmented-reality.
We have a one time purchase of the game (the first 4 levels are free) and after that there is no need for IAP. We did include them as options, but this is a single player game so there is no incentive to purchase them. The whole game is designed and balanced as if they do not exist, and they do not include any content not included in the main game.
If you do live un a less populated less techy area and were attracted to Ingress for the location-based aspects, check out Clandestine: Anomaly.
It's single player and more of a TDesque strategy game, but it builds it's game map 2kmx2km around you. The walking is optional as the game can be played as a strategy game from anywhere. Should you get out and walk to a mission location, it sort of acts as the side quest you'd do to get an additional bonus in an upcoming battle. When you're at the GPS located missions you unlock an Augmented Reality first person AR shooter. It can only be used in short bursts but it adds a cool extra location-based layer to the strategy gameplay.
