I didn't play much of it because I don't like turn-based RPGs but your description sounds like Doom and Destiny, which is currently on sale for $0.99.
My bad, for some reason I didn't see the free or paid bit.
My best choice would definitely be the Doom & Destiny games. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hb.doom_and_destiny Fantastic turn based game. Also, anything by Kemco is also a good bet.
I liked the equip system a lot more. I love having choices and being told "just use the best equipment, cause you only get one stat anyway" is a bit boring. However, the new game is pretty good, too.
Just gonna link it here for people that might be interested:
I greatly enjoyed Doom and Destiny. It matches a lot of your criteria, maybe all of it, and is fun, funny, and nostalgic as hell.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hb.doom_and_destiny
Edit- also no IAP, and no ads!
Doom and Destiny. If you like old final fantasy type RPGs you'll like this. It's a faithful adaptation of old school mechanics while poking fun at the tropes. I havent played the sequel but it's supposed to be even better https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hb.doom_and_destiny
Yep. Android Store entry
If you have a netflix account, check out Into The Breach
If you want a silly game that's a great homage to older JRPGs, check out Doom & Destiny
I encourage you to give Doom & Destiny a try.
It not your typical JRPG, but it has similar elements.
You can also try it for free, just look up it's demo and see if you like it.
What? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hb.doom_and_destiny&hl=en_US and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hb.doom_and_destiny_advanced&hl=en_US are absolutely JRPGs...you might be thinking of Doom the first person shooter games.
These games are on sale. Doom & Destiny Advanced usually goes on sale after the Doom & Destiny sale ends.
Linkme: Doom & Destiny (paid version), Mini Metro, Jydge
Try out Doom and Destiny Made in RPG maker, so sprites are basic as fuck, but familiar if you are in that scene. The story is kinda silly and actually really funny at times, but the characters are kinda annoying... What really hooked me was the gameplay. It's an extremely solid RPG with a great point allocation system (just like Diablo 2, a few points to put in stats of your choosing) and it always feels engaging and highly customizeable (there are even special equip and spells to make unique shit like a physical mage) . I played it past the main story, defeating the optional boss too, I just couldn't get enough. I linked the paid version, but there's a free version with ads last time I played it. Give it a shot, it scratched the itch for me when I first played it. Play it until u beat the first boss, prob no more than 2 hours, and if you don't like it give it up.
Templar Battleforce or the PSP Port(s) Spectral Souls.
Doom & Destiny <= Link, cause the bot won't find the first part but only the second
Doom & Destiny Advanced
Linkme: Templar Battleforce, Spectral Souls, Doom and Destiny Advanced.
If you don't mind mobile games, I'm going to strongly rec Doom & Destiny as a hilarious sendup of typical RPG cliches. A bunch of tabletop gamers get thrown into a fantasy world and set up as the heroes, and it's basically hilarious and a ton of fun. The game itself and the system is pretty typically straightforward but provides a good amount of difficulty, and it's surprisingly enjoyable. In a similar vein, Knights of Pen and Paper is an enjoyable little game with a lot of cheerful nods to RPG tropes and is very upbeat.
Another two games I'd rec as - well, not bright, exactly but ones that don't take themselves too seriously and can have a really good time about it - are The Bard's Tale (you are the Bard, a selfish rogue weary of pointless sub-quests and rat-infested cellars) and Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale, which has a decent adventuring portion but is focused on being THE BEST NPC EVER and basically owning the entire town because capitalism is amazing. Yeah, it's like that. It's been described as 'Daylight robbery: The game' and buy only 'if you have no soul and can smile while you clear out someones wallet', and I can assure you this is not an inaccurate review.
Any of these are fun, and should be entertaining and well worth trying out if you haven't.

Sorry the OT, but I'd rather recommend the Doom&Destiny games, they're also both discounted at €1.20 at the moment.
These are some of my favorite RPG on Play Store:
Doom & Destiny | 4.8 rating | $4.99 | 50,000+ downloads | Search manually
> Four nerds, drawn into a fantasy world and mistaken for heroes, have to battle their way through a massive, crazy adventure and defeat a preposterous villain! This great RPG has magic, dungeons, pizza, and jokes galore. ...

+1 for Doom & Destiny I just started and am enjoying it so far. ...and it's on sale for $0.99 (usually $4.99).

That didn't work :). Try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hb.doom_and_destiny
Doom & Destiny games aren't too bad.

Have you tried doom and destiny?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=hb.doom_and_destiny
I really enjoyed Doom & Destiny, it has great quirky humour and a lot of gameplay. There is also apparently a sequel/reboot, but I haven't tried it.
Braveland and its variations are also pretty good, although a bit less RPGish.
Hardboiled is ok.
Well you can get the FF ports on the Play Store, most have had their Nintendo and Super Nintendo graphics updated (not everyone is a fan of that), but the game play is basically the same. Some of them have extra dungeons and stuff too. FF 1 though 6 are 2D. If you've never played Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana, check those out as well. Square's games section. If you'd rather, you can also emulate.
If you want some 2D RPGs from someone besides Square:
Doom & Destiny (there's a free version with ads too)
Ninth Dawn and sequel (there's free demos)
And Crashlands is really popular right now.
For some 3D RPGs:
KOTOR
Bard's Tale
Ravensword
Aralon
Covers all your points except you don't get to chose classes.
Doom & Destiny is great.
