I have 3 different ways -
For small random files, I use Dukto. It requires a client installation on Windows. But very easy to use. I open the app on both end, both detect each other automatically and then I can transfer files either way. Transfer happens over local wifi, so is pretty fast.
For syncing a folder with desktop - Resilio Sync. This too requires a client installation on Windows. Setup a source folder and destination folder on either end, launch the app at both places and all files will get synced over local WiFi.
For large files - USB OTG drive. I have a usb drive with type A and type C pins, something that I can plug in both devices. (one at a time though :P).
You are probably going to like Dukto then. It works with pretty much any OS out there https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.msec.dukto
Super simple and works over Lan as well.
And here's their main site with all the downloads
Try Dukto.
I've only used it for Android to Android transfers but it does a good job of that (have to leave the screen on though).
It says it's cross-platform but I have not personally tested cross-platform file transfers.
Also the interface isn't the greatest, but it's FOSS so there shouldn't be any bullshit ads or any of that crap.
I like a little open-source app called Dukto, which only works if both devices are on the same wi-fi, but if they are it's incredibly fast.
So, a few weeks ago, I remembered that there's an app named Dukto. This app has been existed since the day when I used Windows Phone. When I tried this app again on my Android (Zenfone Max Pro M1), it still worked nicely. I could connect and send files between my phone, a Macbook, and Windows laptop, even with my phone as a hotspot.
The problem is the interface is dated, well, since the dev uses Windows Phone UI (also in Windows and macOS app). Searching for files to be shared is quite hard.
I wish the dev updates the app or someone does (the website said that "Dukto is a free open source project, licensed under GPL").
If anyone interested, here are the links:
ps. Sorry for my English and I don't know anything about app development.
Edit: Err, grammar.
that's the one

Fair warning: The app has to be open in the foreground on the phone with display on, otherwise a transfer will be paused after some seconds....
Let me know if it works well or not. There's also Dukto but it's one of those projects that hasn't been updated in a while. I might give it a try later too.
Dukto, which is a file transfer app, between android and pc, hasn't been updated for 3 years now. It's the best transfer app that i could find with so few permissions and excellent transfer speeds. Unfortunately it does not recognize my external card anymore. Any suggestions for similar app?
Dukto may be a option.

Not sure of its available via the normal ubuntu repository though.
If not then there are instructions for adding it:
https://software.opensuse.org/download.html?project=home:colomboem&package=dukto
What kind of speed does that offer? I'm using Dukto right now. It does device to device direct WiFi transfer and I'm getting ~1MBPS speed. Not sure whether that is good enough. At this rate, it'll take almost 2 hour to copy over 6 GB of TiBu data.
I have these in my super old Jelly Bean device with 512mb of ram:
K-9 Mail, Document Viewer, Simple Gallery, & Dukto for transferring files between devices.
Null Launcher + Swapps! for app drawer replacement.
try dukto. it works awesome for me https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.msec.dukto&hl=en
Have you tried Dukto?
Dukto if you don't care about when the app was last updated as long as it works.
I've been using Dukto, only requires both devices on the same Wi-Fi connection.
Dukto is perfect for this. Very simple. Clients for all platforms

I use Dukto. Available for Windows too.
Dukto - simple file sharing over LAN
Linkeme: dukto
Interface is quirky, but it gets things done.
Edit: seems the bot didn't show, so here:
Here's a link with some other open source, free or open source, or comercial alternatives to AirDroid: http://alternativeto.net/software/airdroid/
Another option is an open source app called Dukto. I've seen a lot of positive reviews but I'm not sure if it's still being developed and is secure. Here it is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.msec.dukto&hl=en_GB http://www.msec.it/blog/?page_id=11 https://sourceforge.net/projects/dukto/
I'm also considering Team Viewer. Although it's not open source, it seems reputable and secure and has a large community behind it. https://www.teamviewer.com/en/ https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teamviewer.quicksupport.market
Which apps have you been using which are reasonably secure/trustworthy and have the breadth of functionality of AirDroid?
Dukto works just fine. Open source etc.
I might be wrong, but I believe Dukto does that. It's not as full featured as PB by a long shot, but it's open source.
dukto is pretty cool
Dukto open source and works really good
Have you tried Dukto? It does the same thing basically. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.msec.dukto
