Have a look at Crono.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.getcrono
It's early days for it yet and it doesn't have all of the features PushBullet currently has, but it's being actively developed and it's a lot more polished than Join.
I never text with Pushbullet, and the copy/paste is nice but was never, ever reliable, so all the main part of Pushbullet I want to continue using is notification mirroring so I get pings on my laptop when my phone is charging or whatever. Is there an alternative for that?
Edit: Airdroid does notification mirroring. I'm also trying to find something that does universal copy and paste that doesn't look terrible.
Pushbullet introduced a new Pro subscription for $4.99/mo or $40/yr that makes some features that used to be free, paid. Things like universal copy/paste are now paid.
To us, a phone looks very different after a factory reset, this is why you now have two. We don't support merging devices, sorry. You can delete the old device here though: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
Looks like maybe Pushover is a good choice now: https://pushover.net/apps
Looks like it supports sonarr and couchpotato and you just have to pay a one time fee, no stupid subscription plan for a silly push notification app.
Ah, I think I know what's up. When you wiped your device, a new device was created in Pushbullet since it looked like a new device. This means you have 2 devices for your phone in Pushbullet, and have the old one selected in the Windows SMS interface. You can either change it there via the drop down, or delete your old device on this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
You can check your devices for matching encryption data on this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/encryption. My guess is you have an old device with an old password. You can then delete it on this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
Sucks your device was stolen :(
You can either delete that device (Devices), or you can reset your key (Account) from this area of our site: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings. Either one will get the device safely off your account.
We don't have a way to search for channels on our site. Most people don't subscribe to channels through pushbullet but through sites embedding the channel buttons. But if find a tag that is already taken you can just type it a the end the url to see it. https://www.pushbullet.com/channel?tag=engadget Does not look like that channel is being used at the moment.
Universal copy and paste on Join is almost flawless. I would highly recommend switching to Join from Pushbullet, it's a way better product, is free, has more features, and uses your Google Drive for storage instead of the dev's own servers, so this also means no file size limits on pushes, and it's cheap for the dev to run (will never be as expensive as Pushbullet if it's ever monetized).
There's really no excuse not to switch.
EDIT: App is here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joaomgcd.join
Puu.sh is very similar to Snipping Tool, but instead uploads the image online and then gives you a direct link to it. Like this!
Having something like that on Pushbullet itself would be awesome, though!
What isn't working specifically? If it is SMS, you probably have a duplicate device and need to delete the old one on this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
This is duplicated since after a reset it looks like a totally different device.
Sorry, we've discovered that the .bat will never work with unicode characters since .bat files must be ASCII. You can run the new updater here though and you'll stop seeing that (no need to uninstall first): https://www.pushbullet.com/apps
Yep, you can make your own channels (https://www.pushbullet.com/my-channel).
We don't have a page for browsing all channels right now. We're going to be adding more to our channels page every week and highlighting them on the blog and/or here on the subreddit. As we work on channels we'll add search and more.
I have an idea on this. It's possible the main Pushbullet app is running preventing our updater from updating it. Could you check and see if there's a process called pushbullet_client.exe running? If so, stopping that and restarting the updater can help.
If that doesn't work, you can safely run our installer again over the current app to see if that helps (https://www.pushbullet.com/apps)
Universal copy & paste was causing issues for people so we have had to remove it from our Firefox extension. Wish we didn't but it was causing tons of temporary files to be created and never cleaned up, messing with formatting for other programs, all sorts of sad stuff we couldn't fix since we didn't control that. You can grab our Windows desktop app here though: https://www.pushbullet.com/apps
They are not publicly available. Those urls are completely private and unless you share them, no one can go to them since they don't know them. They have the password "baked in" to the url which is not guessable.
If you want to delete all of your data (mms pictures included), you can delete your account on this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/account
A quick thing for the Website/Channels, and getting more users involved here on Reddit:
maybe you could feature https://www.pushbullet.com/channel?tag=pushbulletreddit, it's a Channel that triggers every time a new thread is started here in /r/Pushbullet.
:)
Hm, sorry about that. Should only need to Ok the update once but clearly that's not sticking for you. No prob though, running the new installer from this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/apps will clean everything up and you'll be good to go again (no need to uninstall first).
Our iPad, Mac OSX and Safari app is in the works. We have our best man on the job and its coming along. We hope to have it out soonish. We don't have a beta yet. You can subscribe to pushbullet updates to see when we have updates or announcements: https://www.pushbullet.com/channel?tag=pushbullet
Maybe someone can help. I'm trying to use <strong>Reddit Inbox to Pushbullet</strong>. When I try to copy-paste the URL from "Your Inbox: Everything" from https://ssl.reddit.com/prefs/feeds/ I get this error: "Not a valid feed url, missing feed title".
It's not the most trivial thing to do since to computers, éèê is 3 completely different letters, so you need to translate the letters with accents to a letter without an accent.
Here is some JS to help "normalize" accented strings (remove accents & other modifiers): https://stackoverflow.com/a/18391901
Applying that to both the search text as well as the text you are search against would help. It may be worth computing the normalized string on save to avoid re-computing over and over again... who knows, just throwing ideas out there :)
Not sure how to do this natively with a Pushbullet channel.
But IFTTT can easily do this, if you want to make more complex search queries: https://ifttt.com/channels/reddit/triggers/942117861-new-post-from-search
I'm pretty sure that facebook and google are used only for login. phab3k also never implied that pushbullet is dependant on the login. He just said that you have no idea how these services work.
Through the auth process, they do get some basic data about you, yes. The exact same data they get when you visit any of their websites.
How do I know if metadata isn't hitching a ride along? Because it can't. OAuth does not support adding extra data to it, it just supports authentication.
For more information about the login system, visit this page. That is the login system used by both google and facebook.
Or if you don't believe that, have a look at what facebook accepts for their login system.
OneTab is a Chrome and Firefox extension that does this. You can push all you open tabs or single ones into it (I assume the links are just stored in an xml file). In addition you can do all sorts of things like exporting he links in a list or share them as a webpage. Really cool thing!
I'll reply here, but as a dev, I'm either a good source or a bad source depending on how you look at it haha.
Ok, so, a few things:
1) Pushbullet has been around a long time now. If we were evil spying and selling data etc, one would think it'd be clear by now? That tends to be how things work.
2) We make money through https://www.pushbullet.com/pro so we have no motivation to even bother with the whole spy on people data thing. We have Pro users that keep us operating and it is very clean and simple.
3) If you want additional security you can set up end-to-end encryption with Pushbullet. See https://blog.pushbullet.com/2015/08/11/end-to-end-encryption/
https://www.pushbullet.com/pro goes into this a bit. Lifts the push limit, increases file size limits, and adds a bunch more features for SMS and Notification Mirroring use cases.
If you only use our API for push notifications, that lifting of the limit is probably all you would be after. Our point of view is, if you're getting a lot of use out of the notifications through our service and apps, it seems reasonable to have some expectation of contribution to keep the service running and developing + supporting the annual new Android releases etc. You certainly may not agree with that, and that's totally up to you, but if PB was simply free for everything we'd have had to shut down years ago and wouldn't even be having this conversation.
You can add additional email addresses here: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/account
Then always sign in using your new email and you can basically forget about the original email if that works.
Hm, no it should not be gone. It's more likely something is not syncing correctly on that client. Have you tried logging out and then back into https://www.pushbullet.com? (It sounds like you tried on iOS, give the web a try.)
When you reset your device, it looks like a brand new one to us. This means you now have two devices, the old one and a new one. You can delete the old one here: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices (and/or change the active SMS device in the drop down on the top left of the SMS UI)
Hm, well that is odd then. First thing I'd try is simply running the installer again over the top of this version (no need to uninstall first). Grab it again from here: https://www.pushbullet.com/apps
Sorry, our website is a bit off with syncing right now for some people. Signing out and back in to the website will get it to show the correct devices. After that, head to this page to delete them: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
Hey, no worries. Sorry for the trouble, this should help:
Sign out of our website, then sign back in. This'll get it to re-sync your data (it is out of sync, we are looking into the cause). After signing back in you should see and be able to delete your devices on this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices :)
It's a good enough question... unfortunately there are very few services provided by companies that I have a close, personal, trust-based relationship with. I'll read their privacy policy, TOS, reviews, and hope for the best.
In fact, it is obviously quite different than the page Can I rename my devices? says.
When you want to rename the device, you can do it on the page Pushbullet-Settings-Devices (direct editing of name).
Ah, you do that here on our website: https://www.pushbullet.com/#remotefiles (after making sure Remote Files access is enabled in our Android app's settings.)
Looking now though, I think there is a bug showing all devices offline. We will have this fixed in the next hour or two. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I can't get to the channel in the Android app to click follow (there is no way to get there, you used to be able to go to Channels and enter the tag but that is gone now), and there is no follow button on the website on the channel page either.
EDIT: I had to manually go here: https://www.pushbullet.com/my-channels There is no place I could find on the website that links to that page, you just have to know the URL. The UI, both of the Android app and the website, need a serious overhaul. It's impossible to find anything useful or do certain things. And pushes and channel pushes need to stop looking like conversations, they aren't conversations, they are notifications!
Yup, noticed the same. They also condensed the channel overview here, with the Steam channel not showing up anymore: https://www.pushbullet.com/channels
Odd ... but to stay informed, I created my own channel based on /r/steamdeals.
If you're interested: https://www.pushbullet.com/channel?tag=steam_deals
This pushes all deals posted over there.
Hm, this is quite odd. I haven't had other reports of this but have an idea of the cause. Do you happen to have more than one entry for your phone on this page? https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices If so, deleting them and re-setting-up the phone may help.
Similar situation for me (on v33)
These are the logs from stream.pushbullet.com:
Pushbullet Streaming Test Page websocket connected in 0.89 seconds streaming connected in 0.29 seconds sse connected in 0.92 seconds
Edit to add clarity:
When I click on the extension, I can sign in, and it takes me to the https://www.pushbullet.com/ page in a new tab, where I am logged in. However, the extension itself never switches, and just keeps asking me to sign in or sign up.
You can delete devices here: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
Fyi, we aren't able to prevent duplicates from being created after flashing new ROMs because it looks like a totally different device to us.
Hm, sorry about this. Was this happening with previous versions? I suggest running the installer again from this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/apps to give it a clean starting point. Let me know if it does/doesn't help.
Hey guzba, I have just been pretty heartbroken to notice that the direct links to pushes no longer work. I had bookmarked a few pushbullet links of the form https://www.pushbullet.com/?push_iden=<id> But now when I open them, I am only displayed the "me" page scrolled all the way down.
So basically I now know I had important pushes that I still wanted to look at, but I no longer can access them directly. The fact that you just removed this functionality without warning is enormously distressing to me, and destroys a lot of trust that I have as a user.
So, can you please tell me whether these direct links to pushes will be making a comeback, such that in one or two months I will be able to access said pushes again? I'm really heartbroken to just lose that information in my long, long pushbullet "chat" stream.
Hey, you can get this back (everyone can) just by running the installer from https://www.pushbullet.com/apps again. It'll just install over the top without a need for a restart or anything and then you'll have it back.
We didn't take it away, just one of our updates disconnected it for some, but we couldn't tell who. Hope this helps.
You don't have the Windows app, but the Chrome extension. Not the same thing. There isn't any way in Google Chrome right now to specify on which screen notifications will show up on. They will show up on the monitor defined as the main display.
The Windows app (available here in beta) has more options.
Go to the Pushbullet website. You can edit the name of your device by clicking that little settings icon in upper right corner of device tile. Just hover over the device name and the icon will show up.
Damage control, because they know they have lost the majority of their old customers and are now trying to hide the bait and switch they did for new potential customers.
In the works with a planned Zapier integration too. But you can already use RSS based integrations from both Zapier and IFTTT using the Private Thread feature! This allows you to build your own news feeds, stock reports, weather reports, or even things you maybe didn’t know RSS can do.
Zapier has a fun blog post on this actually https://zapier.com/blog/rss-automation-with-zapier
So I suggest for now you check out Private Threads but rest assured more feature rich integrations are on the way!
That's a really interesting question. Though from what I've seen there aren't a lot of similar questions on this subreddit, so you might get better advice from /r/programming or another similar site.
At most I can recommend AutoHotkey for windows based "automation" thingies. If that doesn't help you'll probably have to learn python or pay someone to make a program for you.
Good luck!
Give Crono a try. It's not quite as feature rich as Join but it has a much more polished interface.
You can use Automate (free) along with the official PushBullet app.
You'll need to create a flow like this: When ringing in-call -> Plug-in action (PushBullet)
The call detector block can pass the incoming number as a variable to the plugin action. Also don't forget to make a loop out of the blocks, so that the flow doesn't need to be restarted manually each time.
Automate has a great wiki on the official website, but feel free to ask for help here if you get stuck.
I have a theory here--when you're both on the same carrier and device, it's very possible you are automatically using RCS intead of SMS without knowing it. Sometimes this is called "Advanced Messaging".
RCS is the upcoming replacement for SMS but it is not standardized and not part of Android so we are not able to sync it yet. Here's a couple of options for how to get around this:
1) Find and disable "Advanced messaging" / RCS in your SMS app (there is usually a setting)
2) Switch to using Google's SMS app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.messaging&hl=en (You can try it and switch back at any time without doing any harm)
Hope this helps!
Join is what most people seem to be moving towards. Even though I'm a paid user I'm starting to think about moving - PB has been so quiet ever since the Pro push. The price doesn't bother me at all (downvote away) but the lack of development now is starting to.
Found a solution for Android, Mighty text which is free and autocompletes from your address book and lets you insert images. Install it on your phone then install the Chrome extension. Not as good as Pushbullet but at least it's reasonably priced.
This definitely isn't something we're doing. It's either an S6 Active issue or something with your default SMS app.
I suggest installing a different SMS app and set it as your default to see if that changes anything (I suggest Google Messenger).
No because those are things pushed through Pushbullet by you, I believe, correct? Meaning, you manually selected those items and sent them using a Pushbullet interface. Right?
What about the notifications that come through on your phone that Pushbullet automatically, without your intervention, forwards to your Desktop (supposing you use the Notification feature)... All you get is a temporary Google Now message on your screen and then it stays in your Google Now notifications until you reboot, after which time all such notifications are gone.
See photo: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzdCozCW6HGMUzk0Q2ppWUs4Vnc/edit?usp=sharing
I'm not coming down on Pushbullet. They do a good job at their core function - getting things to and from your phone easily. What I'm doing is just wishing someone that deals in Android phone notifications one way or another (as Pushbullet does as well) would make an everlasting history feature. Basically, like a Google Now History(permanent availability history) feature. I can't seem to find anything, anywhere, that will help me keep a permanent record of my Google Now notification. Since Pushbullet got involved in forwarding such notifications, I thought I'd being this up.
The mirroring test fails from my (new) Pixel 6 Pro to my (new) MBP even though both can load https://stream.pushbullet.com/ without issue.
P6P - on the December update for Android 12 MBP - macOS 11.6.2
Texts from the MBP to the P6P do arrive. Settings > Notifications > Chrome = allow banners. https://www.pushbullet.com/#sms shows a history of recent SMSs, so it seems that there's something blocking on the MBP side.
Help appreciated! M
Oh I apologize, I was thinking Chrome on Mac not iOS.
The only way would be to use something like Chrome Remote Desktop but that seems pretty annoying.
Let me know if you find a good solution. I don't use iOS very much but I'd be interested in what you figured out.
Have you tried these? https://alternativeto.net/software/pushbullet/?platform=iphone
You're actually mistaken about the file. upload. If you look at this line you will notice that it is always done synchrnously, regardless of whether there is a callback supplied or not. The way that XMLHttpRequest works is that the request waits for a response before moving on to the next line of code. This ensures that the file is fully uploaded before sending a POST request for pushing.
I'm unsure about streaming mode. It seems simple enough and the developers already provided a JS example. I suppose that I could simply wrap that in such a way that is consistent with the rest of the API, providing callbacks for all the different events.
Finally, I noticed there were a couple of Node.js PushBullet wrappers already. I didn't want to tread on anyone's feet. I also don't believe that there's a version of FormData or XMLHttpRequest built into node. If there's enough interest though, sure, I'm perfectly willing to port to node.
Use the trigger "Feed" on IFTTT and then select "New Feed Item" Past the RSS feed of your webpage using something (If it does not have that function use a website online to generate the feed) and then set the Action to Pushbullet.
Does that make sense?
Some example IFTTT triggers (Not specific to Pushbullet): https://ifttt.com/recipes/193786-website-update-notifications
It might be worth considering to allow the creation of custom menus in a similar way as Snarl.
You can even consider optional forwarding of notifications to Snarl (I mean Windows desktop application).
$10 a year - maybe. $40 a year - neh. Stripping Universal copy & paste off means I'll probably bail on the "free" version too.
Since uptimerobot supports pushover I'll probably switch over to them ($5 one time charge). Hopefully they'll sort out encryption soon.
surely having the librarian call the phone would be an easier solution. If you want an alarm to go off you should consider setting up 'wheres my droid' https://wmdcommander.appspot.com/ It will alarm, ring, turn off, wipe itself, display its location on a map and loads of shit. http://wheresmydroid.com/features.html
I'm sure you could integrate push bullet with it some how with IFFF but I don't see the point.
Same with me due to the latest iOS update. Glad I can finally put the last nail in the coffin on Pushbullet. But I found raindrop.io - it's by far the best alternative I've found (far superior to NowPush). It's not exactly the same, but it seems to be only thing that provides the seamless Mac/iPhone/iPad/Windows experience I'm looking for. And it's got a lot of organizational tools to boot (search, tags, etc.)

Portal is a polished product, backed by a great team. But I find Portal very limiting.
(Disclaimer: I run a competing service).
You can only send files offline from PC to phone. Don't you sometimes wish you could send files offline from phone to phone or PC to PC ?
You can only send files. Don't you sometimes wish you could also send folders offline?
You cannot resume file transfers. Any interrupted file transfer needs to be restarted from the very first byte. Any file you already sent gets duplicated. Wouldn't it be great if Portal intelligently detected a file was already transferred?
You cannot use Portal to send text messages (or links) to your other devices. One could argue there is pushbullet for that. But pushbullet works online, meanwhile portal's appeal is that it works offline.
Declining support from the pushbullet team. Portal is not pushbullet's main product. Pushbullet consists of talented individuals who need to maximize their limited time and support on their main revenue source (which is not Portal).
You absolutely need an external Wi-Fi router for Portal to work. Wouldn't it be great if Portal worked with your smartphone's tethered hotspot?
To the best of my knowledge, Portal doesn't encrypt file transfers between devices in a LAN. I might be wrong. Wouldn't it be great if your file transfers were encrypted even within a LAN ?
I know you are happy Portal user, and it does exactly what it says it does... Send files from PC to phone. But if you've faced any of the 7 pain points mentioned above, then you should try Feem v4 (http://www.feem.io). The only downside is you have to install Feem on your PC. (Does not work on the browser). On the plus side, Feem solves all the 7 pain points above. You should give it a try.
Regarding the old SMS, could you check that you have the most recent phone / device selected? If you look above your SMS threads, there is a device name. Picking the correct device there may fix this.
If you have duplicates, it may be from doing system restores or something like that which make it look like a new phone to us.You can delete old devices here: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
Do you still remember the tag you named the channel?
If so, you can change this link https://www.pushbullet.com/channel?tag=pushbullet to be the tag you used (instead of pushbullet) and then anyone with that link can subscribe to the channel to receive notifications.
If they are already subscribed but still not receiving notifications I'll need to check in to that so let me know.
>API is working from my App, so maybe it is your app or your key?
I didn't changed anything before it stopped working.. I've also made new access tokens but they still don't work

Nothing I don't have any connected apps I use the API
>Assuming your API client doesn't show you error messages, maybe try the API tests with curl as shown on the API quick start page?
I can't get that to work..

You can cancel any time at https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/account or in our Android app Account tab, then Pushbullet Pro. Should only take a few seconds. I'll also see if a billing cancel email got missed.
It sounds like you may have a separate (duplicate) entry for your phone. Maybe created after a clear data / reset? This can happen if it looks like a new phone.
Try clicking on the dropdown above your conversations and see if you have more than one device there? If there is, try deleting old devices here: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
You can also just delete the device any time to see if that helps in general. A new device will get created when you sign back in to Pushbullet on your phone.
Hello, good news: we do have a button to delete your entire push history. It sounds like this is what you're looking for.
It isn't in our desktop app just yet though, but you can use it from our website any time you want to clear your entire push history: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/history
If you have two accounts, it means your Facebook account and Google account have different email addresses. This isn't a big deal. Here's a possible solution.
1) Log in using your Facebook account on Pushbullet.com
2) Delete this Pushbullet account on this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/account (Be sure you won't lose anything you care about!)
3) Log in using your Google account on Pushbullet.com
4) Go to https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/account and click "Connect Account" to attach your Facebook account to this existing Google account.
5) Sign in using Facebook for Pushpal and it will now use your existing account that has Facebook connected.
Hope this helps!
Ah are you deleting old file pushes? If not it is using up your storage space. Maybe you're running into the file size limit cap. Free accounts cap out at ~2 GB and Pro accounts at ~100GB of files stored. You can clear up space by deleting old file pushes.
Edit: you can also bulk delete here if you don't care about the push history: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/history
Hm, could you check 2 things?
1) If you open Pushbullet yourself (start the program), does it open and work as expected?
2) Try re-installing the app over the top of the existing install (its safe to do this). That may fix the auto-starting since starting with the computer is set up by the installer if i recall correctly. https://www.pushbullet.com/apps
If that doesn't work, could you have some security software or something preventing our app from becoming an app that is started automatically?
I think there is a PB API wrapper in Python out there, but we do not have an official one. You can certainly use Python even without an API wrapper though. Using maybe the requests lib it should be reasonably possible to make the API calls.
All you'd need to do is generate an Access Token here: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/account then send a push using https://docs.pushbullet.com/#create-push (no need to include anything other than the "Parameters for different types of pushes"). Basically just a body would be fine for your case, as an example.
Just re-read this and have a clarifying question. After clicking "Sign in with Google" it takes you to an white web page. Does that page say "https://www.pushbullet.com/..." in the address bar of your browser, or does it say "https://accounts.google.com/..."?
The best work-around to the iOS app is just bookmarking the web interface.
https://www.pushbullet.com/#people/me
It loads pretty quickly, so I can continue receiving text/links on my devices.
I think this may be somewhat helpful: As a Chrome extension, we must ask Chrome to show notifications. Chrome on Windows 10 does this by using the Windows 10 notification center. I'd see if maybe there are settings related to that disabled on your computer? The issue is somewhere in Chrome or Windows 10 notification settings but unfortunately I don't know more since each computer is different and as an extension we don't have any power to "overrule" those settings.
I also suggest trying our Windows desktop app to avoid this issue altogether: https://www.pushbullet.com/apps
Also our Chrome extension's last update was January 23, 2020, not in the past few days. I'd verify you're installing the correct extension to be safe. Follow the link from this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/apps
Ah, mm that's hard to say. I don't know what Chrome supports for Windows 7. If the number for notifications shows, we are trying to show a notification but Chrome isn't doing the actual showing part. Perhaps try our Windows desktop app where we manage all the notifications ourselves? https://www.pushbullet.com/apps
A first thing to check is that each device has the correct SMS device selected in the UI. This is usually at the top in a drop down if you click on the device name.
It is possible you have old or duplicate devices causing things to not look in sync. You can remove old devices here: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
Experiencing same issue with the new UI, starting this morning. Started after I clicked the farthest left tab (Friends). Now clicking the extension automatically launches into https://www.pushbullet.com/#people/new instead of opening the extension new UI and allowing selection of Friends, Following, or Me. Persists after restarting browser.
Thanks for monitoring!
Hi, currently our Friends system is in an odd state. We had some trouble with people using it to send spam (its amazing how clever people are out there at finding ways to get free spam email sent).
It does still work though, just go to https://www.pushbullet.com/#people/new and type the PB account email address of a friend and click Start talking. When you send them a message everything is wired up and you're good to go. Hope this helps.
> incessant encryption errors though encryption isn't enabled anywhere
This means you have encrypted data stored by one of your devices. Check here to see if any still have it enabled: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
If none do, one of them may have had encrypted SMS stored that didn't get overwritten. Perhaps an old device. Delete it?
This answer sums it up nicely. To ensure your privacy, I highly suggest making sure to set up end-to-end encryption. It's as easy as entering the same encryption key (password) on each of your devices. You can check everything matches using this page to troubleshoot: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/encryption
No, there should not be a device limit. Not sure why you're having trouble there but we can troubleshoot. If you have old devices you can also remove them here if it helps: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
As for giving unsigned, I can't really. It's not just an exe, there's some install-related stuff that needs to be in place. You can use Pushbullet.com though as a stand-in for today, only missing notifications feature. If you need the notifs, install our browser extension quick: https://www.pushbullet.com/apps and then quit the desktop app for now (right-click on icon in system tray). There is no harm having extension and desktop on same PC. Just some suggestions to get you through the little bit here.
Did you create these channels? If they are your own, you can delete them here: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/channels
If they are not showing on pushbullet.com, you may be signed in using a different account. Easy mistake, try signing out and back in to verify (worth doing if you have not signed out in a long time as it may have fallen out of sync for some reason, its possible if unlikely).
An approach would be using our API to send the push / notification to your phone. Here is the API call you'd use: https://docs.pushbullet.com/#create-push
You can create an access token to use on this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/account
I've been able to solve the issue without debugging.
The problem was a non-gui accessible setting "privacy.firstparty.isolate" in about:config. After disabling this option and adding https://www.pushbullet.com/ to the third party cookie exception list it worked.
Thanks for the answer. I've deleted everything from localstorage and cookies from Pushbullet, then signed in through the login button of the Firefox addon, the cookie with the api_key and some __ut.. values appeared, and the local storage has the api_key set as the desktop value "Pushbullet access token is '...'. The api_key is also at the end of the account value "max_upload_size":26214400,"api_key":"..."}.
I've also set https://www.pushbullet.com as an exception for both cookies and third party content blocking. I've also disabled my network adblocker (Pi-hole).
I'm still not signed into the addon.
The extension looks for a cookie called api_key set by https://www.pushbullet.com, which it then stores in localStorage as apiKey so that it doesn't need to look at the cookie again.
Is it possible that you have an old / incorrect value in localStorage? Is localStorage disabled?
Alright did some digging.
I found this registry key, HKCU\SOFTWRE\Pushbullet\FileLogging, where I changed the value from False to True.
-
Now each time Pushbullet starts it creates a log file in the %AppData%\Pushbullet folder. There I could see the app did not find the grants.json.gz file followed with a "The user name or password is incorrect" exception.
-
Then it hit me, I have End-to-End encryption enabled on all of my devices. So I went to Pushbullet Settings page and entered my key.
-
Next I deleted the %AppData%\Pushbullet folder and started the client again and would you look at that, it works now!
-
/u/guzba a dialog telling me this would be nice. I'm sure this could help others who reinstall Pushbullet in the future..
Yep, you can create channels for each "feed" here: https://www.pushbullet.com/my-channel and then push to those via our API. You'll get notifications for each channel you've subscribed to (only you since you created it) and they will be grouped.
First thing I suggest is opening our app and heading to the SMS section from the drawer and making sure it is enabled.
If that's cool, my guess is you have an old / duplicate device causing issues. You can check & delete here: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
Sounds like you have an old version of your device selected. You can change the selected device in the top left of the SMS screen (there is a dropdown). You can also delete old devices here: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
It's likely you got a duplicate device if you have done a factory reset or installed a new ROM. These make it look like a brand new device.
If SMS isn't syncing, I would check that the correct device is selected in the device selector in the top left. You can also make sure you don't have duplicate devices on this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/#settings/devices
Duplicate devices come from factory resets mostly. It is worth checking though, this often gives the appearance of SMS sync not working anymore. You can also disable and re-enable SMS sync in the app to force an update. Let me know and we can go from here.
Hm, first thing I would try is running the installer again. You don't need to uninstall first or anything like that, just run it over the top to see if it repairs this. You can grab the installer again from this page: https://www.pushbullet.com/apps
