Not ESPN+ is it? That's the $5 subscription I am aware of. This fight isn't on that. Not sure what that app has when a fight isn't on. You would need the regular ESPN app and a cable subscription to watch this on that app.
If you are on Android, use this app and log in with your cable provider:

Interestingly, this isn't the actual WatchESPN app on the play store, but rather the ESPN app

ESPN app is actually working quite well. It casts to Chromecast. I don't like the search and navigation though. E.g. a query for "New Zealand" is associated with Cricket :-(
But, for 4.99 per month you get full Superugby, rugby championship (former tri nations) and many other matches. Worth it for me!

Thank you for all the details!
Let me sum it up (could you please check that i've picked the right apps?).
Also I'd like to clarify a few things.
> When running AdGuard with Disconnect, Disconnect is still picking up what I assume to be the extraneous ad services
If I understand how Disconnect works with Knox right, the "filtering chain" looks like: app --> Disconnect --> Adguard.
> There are some apps I don't wish to have blocked, especially Google Apps which lose functionality when blocked with AG
Please note, that google mobile ads (which are used by a lot of apps out there) are loaded by one of such apps. It is either "Google Services Framework" or "Google Play services", I don't remember which one exactly, though.
Also you may want to try "Filter DNS requests" feature (settings -> advanced settings). It allows to completely block some known ad&tracking servers using a different approach. It is better from the battery saving point of view as a server is blocked once and then it just does not bother AG anymore. The downside is that you can't control it on a per-app basis.
Based on recent reviews for those apps on the Play Store I'd say the issue is the apps.

For Shield, its not "Watch ESPN" its just "ESPN."

This is the ESPN app you have to click on where it says watch https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.espn.score_center
So it's actually the ESPN App in the Play Store, not the Watch ESPN App. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.espn.score_center
Shows up as "Watch ESPN" in Leanback.
Have fun!

Here's the link to the ESPN app in Google Play (for the phone).
Does ESPN work? Looks like you need the Gear Manager for ESPN app (which appears to no longer be on the play store), as well as the main ESPN app logged into an ESPN account on your phone. I'm not a sports guy so didn't go through the steps to see if it all works, YMMV.
Its the ESPN app not the watch espn app. They merged the fuctionality of watchespn into the espn app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.espn.score_center&hl=en
