Exercise tracker claims to do this too:
> Exercise Tracker is the only app that automatically identifies exercises, counts your repetitions, and logs all of your workouts for you!
You say you support recognition of calisthenics. How does it recognize push ups and pull ups, where the hands are stationary?
Workout app that uses your watch to track reps and syncs with Google Fit. It makes patterns of exercises for you based on what goals you want to achieve and has the option of displaying an instructional video on the phone screen if you get given an exercise that you don't know how to do.
Maybe something like VimoFit? There's a bunch more interval timers out in the wild, but this one at least tries to do something different and is completely free (for now).
Might want to try factory resetting your watch, since I think Google Fit is the best option. If you want to check others, these two are the next best:

Hey guys, if you have an Android phone, and a Wear watch (just a bonus), please try out VimoFit. If you're new to working out, or just want a change in pace daily, this app is a great motivation. If you own a Wear watch, you don't even need to do the counting. It counts for you so you can watch your form.
I use the Huawei Watch 2 for pretty much what you're describing here.
The Spotify app is kinda crap, but the native media remote control works fine.
For rep tracking you'll need something obscure. I use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vimo.co.seven it's old and doesn't support some phones, but it works pretty well when it works.
The Exercise Tracker: Wear Fitness & Personal Trainer: Home Workout apps on the Play Store are close alternatives for counting/tracking reps. Info integration with Google Fit (phone app) is a little sparse but it's there. It appears that the company is now defunct but the apps still work.
I sent mine in for replacement and didn't expect it back so I used Exercise Tracker on my android wear watch. It was the closest thing I could find. I was lucky enough to get a replacement so I haven't had to go back to it yet

Super excited for VimoFit to launch on Apple Watch fitness. It’s already on Android Wear fitness with it’s auto exercise identification and rep counting featureandroid wear fitness

You can try this if you have an Android Wear device.
Impetus is my choice for interval training because it's so easy to use and setup.
I believe that a Google Fit update is on the way as for now, I recommend VimoFit It tracks just about any workout
Have you tried out VimoFit? They released it for the Apple watch as well though Android Wear had it first.
A few other similar apps, if you feel like messing around some more:

I don't use it myself, but there's another app out there that claims to do the same thing: Exercise Tracker.
Looks great though it is much like VimoFit(used to be called)
