For Android users:
This works great. The developer is a redditor.
It blows my mind that there is still not a device that matches the features of the Microsoft Band that was released 2 years ago!
Custom workouts, on board GPS, workable text input... Turns out these were ahead of their time.
The closest solutions I've found for the custom workouts are an android wear device running the Atlas app or the latest Garmin Vivoactive 3...or just keep replacing the band 2 from ebay.
It looks like it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.kapp#icon2-Android I'm sure the app update for iOS is still in review by Apple. It usually takes anywhere from a day to a week to get approved.
If you're on Android, I built an app that does such things. You can find it in the playstore here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.hackerforhire.msbandlight
I just saw your comment and took the few minutes to update mine with color picking (for now the default MS colors because that was quicker). If there's interest in the future, I'll see about updating to allow the whole color pallet. ~~Give it a few hours and~~ The update should be live (v2.2) and it will allow you to select colors other than a full white band.
'Ok' on the whole body being data. Was not sure if you were wrapping it in some jsonp or such.
I am using a php stream method:
With method of (very basic example):
$post_body = file_get_contents('php://input'); if ( isset($post_body) && $post_body !='' ) { echo 'data received'; } else { echo 'no data received'; }
and it continues to report no data.

And here is a screenshot of my app settings:

Does anyone know if it's possible for developers to create some sort of app like this with the new SDK? Or would it need to be a Microsoft done thing?
It seems like something fairly simple to implement, and music is a huge part of working out. Boggles my mind how something like this isn't already a thing. (I know you can use Cortana, but that isn't really convenient at all)
I get the Bing Daily Image automatically each day: http://imgur.com/8hlSDiV
I get this using Band Daily Wallpaper (formerly "Bing my Band") which syncs it to my Band 1 and Band 2 each day (Band 1 connected to a dev phone)
Disclosure: This is my own app - It's available in an early version on the store and the Free trial never expires (There's numerous UI and a few feature changes in dev now)
Check it out if you're interested: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9nblggh4vr3s
I don't have the band yet, but I use this app on phone and desktop and I know it works on the band as well. It also sets the same wallpaper on all your devices: https://www.microsoft.com/store/apps/9wzdncrfhzcd
Can confirm with /u/jimbonics. I have a 1520, cheap wireless headphones and no Band issues to speak of.
I have a long list of Bluetooth devices connected. It never has problems finding the right head set, or connecting.
Bought this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00P1ZLN3M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Super pleased with it. Very heavy duty and reliable, as long as you follow the installation instructions. Comes with replacement warranty as well if you have issues. But yeah, pretty much every comment/article written about the band immediately references the easily scratched screen and the need to order a screen protector from day 1 of ownership.
Hey - just saw this. I've got a couple of ideas - if you have a multimeter, you can play around with checking the voltages on the pins to see if you're getting any readings (to see if the charger cable is broken). Although I couldn't find any specs quickly on which pins to actually check. Also, I'm not sure how much you're willing to dump more money into it, but you could try buying a new charge cable?
I sent mine in for replacement and didn't expect it back so I used Exercise Tracker on my android wear watch. It was the closest thing I could find. I was lucky enough to get a replacement so I haven't had to go back to it yet
Being able to control a time tracking app on the phone. I use these apps on my Android phone atimelogger, toggl, but wish I could pause/start the tracking of current event from the band
To install apps from the android store on the band:
Download the app from the google play store (or other means) on to your phone
Open the app you just downloaded on your phone.
The app should prompt you to install a new tile on your phone
I do not know of any apps that allow you to customize the fonts, but there is one that allows you to select any image as a wallpaper. Try this one.
Yeah through a 3rd party app..I just downloaded this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andrewleinbach.msband.sensors
Not very useful unless you need it for something but its fun to see now and then.
I doubt anything will work whilst in exercise mode...
this info might help with spotify though ? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.andrewleinbach.msband.media&reviewId=Z3A6QU9xcFRPRXJYTFlkdDdING5DNjlaREM3Yk1YOE1sajZoV1JQLWVFU0pIMlY5VHpPNHE1bi1oSTUtUGRITl81SE03czlfeW90cjBILXNYcUZFTzZ4
So I tried going down this path ... I found out a lot of interesting limitations to the band. I've got a "flash-light" app ... but there's things as a developer I can't control:
ability to put custom background / color to notifications ... you only get the side bar
trying to solve it by using ascii 🔦 characters, but the character set only support showing the hollow block, not the full one
Either way, it was a good learning experience and ~~I'll toss it up in the Android store for anyone that wants it~~. That didn't take long. Still not as powerful as a phone's LED's though :( oh well, maybe we'll get a real SDK one of these days...
