It's a three hour meeting. Usually the first hour features announcements, hymns, the Lord's Supper/Eucharist/Sacrament, sermons from a few of the members of the congregation, and a couple of prayers.
The second hour is a Sunday school hour, where people break off into smaller groups, usually by age (the kids go to classes with kids their age, the teens go to classes with each other, and the adults do one or more adult Sunday school classes). It's usually focused on a specific section of the scriptures in more or less a classroom format.
The final hour is similar but the teens and adults are further split into groups by gender, the point being for men to focus on being better men, and women to focus on being better women.
Each meeting is usually started and ended with a prayer.
This app (for Android) has all the scriptures and lesson manuals, and using a mobile device to access the material during the sunday school classes is normal.
There's a similar one for other systems.
edit I guess I should say that you should expect to have to introduce yourselves to a lot of people.
>I don't really know where to go from here! I was thinking of loading up Amazon and trying to get a copy of The Standard Works and reading it. Is that a good idea?
Great idea! Oh, don't pay for them- get them for free- Go here: https://www.lds.org/scriptures/formats?lang=eng
or here if you have an android device: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lds.ldssa
For research purposes, this sub is a great place to ask questions. Honestly see if you can't set up something like a reverse AMA with the mods where you could just ask the sub questions and get responses. That might actually be really cool and very informative for you and future people looking into the religion. The church website is also a great resource for true and unfiltered info straight from our religion. And you can download the Gospel Library App (for Android), this will have absolutely every single text concerning our religion pretty much ever written or spoken! It's got our Scriptures first and foremost including the Book of Mormon, and the Doctrine and Covenants. But it has every talk given by our church authorities, every church related magazine ever printed, all of our documents for general info for the members, videos, lesson books for church, everything man. You will find everything you need on there! It's a ton to sift through though, so if you have any questions or need any help just pm me. Also I highly recommend asking questions on this sub, because getting an idea if how and why we believe is just as important as what we believe. If not more so. Good luck man!
They should - it's just the standard LDS Gospel Library app. I've confirmed it's on both Android and Apple. Anyone should be able to download it: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lds.ldssa
Download the Gospel Library App. It has the church's blue logo of Jesus Christ on it.

For a straightforward summary of the church's teachings:
Look on the app for the subtopic "Children." A great way to know what a religion boils down to is the material they give to kids.
Look under the subtopic of Church History --> Gospel Topics Essays. These essays are an absolutely crucial read. Every potential convert should spend time studying both the main text and the footnotes of the Essays before they consider getting baptized.
Happy reading!
So I have really enjoyed the bible app that the church of Jesus Christ of latter-day saints has. It has tons of fount sizes and audio options. It is also available through an app and a web browser. I have found that it has the best note sync across platforms. It has some non bible books but there esey to ignore.
I am not aware of any study groups, but there is an app that you can download that has a week by week walkthrough study of the new testament. The Gospel Library App also has all of the scriptures in the app as well and it's free! There are a LOT of podcasts that compliment the Come Follow Me study (that is the name of the new testament study I mentioned) and one I personally recommend is The Scripture Study Project . They have their podcasts on multiple platforms as well.
These are LDS based but I think you'll find they give you a fresh perspective on The New Testament.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Hi, the Church-produced book called, "Gospel Principles" has a good summary of our beliefs
https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-principles?lang=eng
All of our scriptures and other books in our "Gospel Library" can be viewed for free by downloading this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lds.ldssa&hl=en_US

Also, you should know that have recently been asked to not refer to ourselves as Mormons, but rather members of the Church of Jesus Christ.
Answering partly my own question .. I was a little surprised Scientology managed to get listed on google and apple
- https://itunes.apple.com/us/developer/church-of-scientology-international/id412117484
- Some would debate the cult status .. but the Mormon's seem to be using the eco system "well" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lds.ldssa
- Happy Science have an app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.happyscience.happyscience
- Eckankar https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.devatelier.hu
- House of Yahweh https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yahweh.houseofyahweh
it seems like there is not a big barrier to get on to an app store ..
My scriptures app, my hymns app and a few others.
Ah yes, the gospel library.
For iPhone: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/gospel-library/id598329798
For Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lds.ldssa&hl=en_US
These apps contain all of the church's publications, study guides, and scriptures. You don't need an account to use them.
Thanks for the question.
(I'll admit I am not a lettered biblical scholar this is more my limited and understanding and opinion. I also mean no disrespect to the beliefs of others.)
It's one of the first English translations of the Bible that I know of and thus comes closest to the original sources as an English translation. This is very important. The other option is to learn Hebrew, Greek and Latin in order to get closer to the original sources of the Bible. I say this because, as complex as translating anything is from one language to another, it's as simple as the telephone game, if you've ever played this then you know what I mean. People and organizations in the last 1500 years have been playing the "telephone game" with the Bible and have been putting their own interpretations and meanings of the words, phrases and stories that little by little many important and subtle meanings and contexts and doctrines are lost. With this in mind the KJV Bible is not perfect however I do believe it to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.
Consistency in written and spoken language is critical in conveying ideas through time and space.
Perhaps some would say I'm living in the past but I thoroughly enjoy the beauty of the language of the KJV Bible(it's the same language Shakespeare and the American founding fathers understood, spoke, and wrote) and find it well worth the effort to understand in order to appreciate the ideas the authors and translators were trying to convey. Weather or not you're religious it is a book that is without comparison(with the exceptions of the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and covenants, and Pearl of Great Price) and well worth reading for the time tested principles, wisdom, and life lessons found within is pages, that when followed, in good conscience, will lead one to a happier life. For this reason alone the KJV Bible should be included in the curriculum of all public schools and taught as with any other literature in language arts, civics, philosophy and any other classes where it would find useful application.
I highly recommend reading the KJV Bible published by the Church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints for it's excellent study aids that make studying and understanding the Bible pretty easy. You can find it in the Gospel library app here under the Scriptures option. And it's totally free! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lds.ldssa
Thanks again for the thoughtful question.
In addition to reading on Mormon.org, you can request missionaries, a free Book of Mormon, or other materials. There's also a great app that contains all of the LDS scriptures as well as modern talks and writings called "Gospel Library". Its the official app of the church and its free.
Here's another great free Bible app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.lds.ldssa
It's made by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, but contains an unaltered King James Version of the Bible with helpful footnotes and historical data.
Edit: Appreciate the downvotes, everyone :) Its nice to see prejudice is alive and well in this world.
