Delta Updates available via an app: -

Edit: - Third party app : - https://www.reddit.com/r/LineageOS/comments/62npyf/how_do_delta_updates_work/
I've used Lineage Downloader (formerly CyanogenMod Downloader) for years. I have it set to do a backup and delete old backups as well as installing some other packages. Has always worked well for me at least.
I use a third party updater app, which has the ability to automatically flash additional zip files after each update.
I understand that third party apps isn't the best solution for everyone, but it works for me
It is (somewhat) possible with Lineage Updater
But it will then grow to a full size, as it just downloads a delta file.
Technically it's possible to do an incremental OTA but IMO it's not worth it when you're few versions behind, you will then have to flash several times.
Download the latest TWRP for klte here and install it by booting to recovery and installing the img file from wherever you downloaded it to. I'd also recommend using Lineage Downloader because it makes updating Lineage OS much simpler and you can do it directly from your phone. To install the update, boot into recovery (TWRP) and simply flash the Lineage OS zip you downloaded (located in 'Lineage_Downloader' folder).
im using this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader&hl=en Requires to have previous build zip file and when you are upgrading , the app downloads only delta updates, not the whole zip file. Only the code that changed is downloaded
Oh, so you like incremental OTAs, or even in-system OTAs (without even having to boot into recovery)? The former is implemented by Lineage Downloader, and the latter is a work-in-progress by Google called APEX (if I understand correctly).
Kinda off-topic though?
I'm afraid not. I'm still using the Lineage Downloader app to apply updates as it still prompts for the decryption password on reboot.
UPDATE: yeah. Well. Obvious update.
Dirty flashed build of April 11. Everything's ok except Clock, it has started crashing continuosly again like in the December build. Camera seems to work a bit better now tho.
I had a backup but it was from 2016. When they tell you "you need atleast a backup" they should add "from the current year".
April 6 build seems to be killer on S5. I suggest this useful app for checking if there are issues with a build: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader
This app has 500k+ downloads. I'm going to give it a try and see if it makes any difference.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader
Anyone use it?
Edit: Same issue with this app. Reboots and then says "no command".
I guess I'll just continue to update manually.
Edit 2: I downloaded the TWRP Android app from the Play store and used it to download the twrp rom and install it to my phone. Now it is working!
The unofficial LOS updater linked above also allows you to install LOS and then wipe the cache, which is nice. The official one doesn't.
> ...and the full zip download is file not found
Same happened to me this week with that Lineage Downloader app on a S3 i9300 running LOS 14.1 2018-01-10 100% stock. Had to flash the file manually via TWRP.
Send an email to the dev to report the bug, look for it in his Play Store page.
>Change lineageos_updates location?
OP is referring to: /data/lineageos_updates/
Are you using this app or something similar, by any chance? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader Because I don't see any options in the standard LineageOS menu to receive reminders.
So you're not doing a backup with TWRP? Maybe I'll pluck up the courage to try it this weekend!
>You guys are talking about the lineage downloader app, right?
No, they are not.

The old CM downloader works fine with LOS: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader
This gives you smaller delta updates and you can automatically flash additional zips, which would otherwise be overwritten by the weekly updates (Magisk, 3rd party kernels, etc.)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader No need to uninstall xposed before flashing, but you have to flash it again right after you flash the update. Sorry if I replied so late
I recommend CM Downloader makes it easy and only downloads the changes as delta updates to the original zip, can set to auto check for new nightlies and download them while you sleep.
Recently I actually installed CM12.1 CAF on my mum's N5 for precisely this reason. I rooted her Nex a while back to be able to do some root battery optimizations like Greenify, then was too lazy to update it manually... So finally I did, and figured I'd just install CyanogenMod. Now the cool thing about CM is that it has the best OTA update system of any ROM, which means you can easily update to the latest CM version just by going to Settings>About>CM updates (or using an app like CM Downloader). CM devs even say you can dirty flash between major Android versions! So now I can always easily update and keep my root effortlessly (note that if you use Xposed or a custom kernel you will need to reinstall that after updating).
Now the reason I chose the CAF version is that it's supposed to be a more optimized version. I didn't really bother to compare but some who did say they feel the CAF version is smoother and has better battery life (YMMV of course). Note that you won't be able to use custom kernels on CAF.
>do i have to actually update every day for it to keep working properly?
No. It only means that there are updates that you can install every day. Personally I install them about once a week in average, but - as it has been mentioned already - most updates don't even regard your device, so there is really nothing that stops you from sticking to one nightly if you feel like it runs well. If you use this app from the Play Store to download nighlies, it will display the changelog and highlight all changes that regard your device (I think it's colored green or something).
Lineage Downloader (formerly CM Downloader) had been updated as well: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader
Lineage Downloader can be used to comment/rate a build.
Three months ago, I discovered this same exact problem in LOS v14.1(as I also reported in the Disqus thread associated with the Lineage Downloader app).

As I am still fairly new to LineageOS:

What I was able to track down was that in the 'lineage-14.1-20180816-nightly-ha3g-signed.zip' build, two things stopped working for me:

In the previous 'lineage-14.1-20180803-nightly-ha3g-signed.zip' build, these two problems did not exist. So, this is clearly a regression bug.

I was hoping to get around to formally reporting this, but I haven't yet gotten around to collecting the necessary Logcats. Maybe some kind soul here can verify if this problem was introduced into other LOS versions as well on Aug. 16th, and then file a regression report? I'd really like to see this get fixed!
I use this tool : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader&hl=en_GB it seems to handle updates better than the official.
Great thank you. Is this the updater you're talking about? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader&hl=en Install this app on your phone and you should install updates without any errors
i doubt checking once a day would kill the battery. anyway try this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader&hl=en
No problem.
Here's the app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader
I recently flashed CM13 nightlies and they fixed all of the issues I had with crashing and random restarts (you also get updates pretty much whenever you want with CM Downloader). I also hadn't dabbled with flashing anything before, but it was extremely easy to do so! I used this guide to do the whole process and it worked beautifully. I flashed GApps from http://opengapps.org/ instead, but that was the only thing I did differently. Hit me up if you need any more help!
I have been using this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.paolinoalessandro.cmromdownloader&hl=en_IN
to update Lineage OS on my phone. It keeps the previously downloaded LOS image and give feature of Delta Update in which only updated part of the image required to download (reducing the size of update file significantly). I hope this will help.
