Searching on Google I found two different "opera mini" from Opera (Opera Software ASA) on the play store:
I've installed com.opera.mini.native because it was the latest updated (updated today vs in January). Does anyone know why they published it as a separate app instead of an update to the other one? Is there any other difference that I/we should be aware of?
Opera Mini is a good choice.
It blocks ads and uses less data through compression, which makes webpages open super fast without screwing with your browsing experience, even on slow networks.

For Android users, I would recommend looking at the Opera Mini web browser and putting it in "extreme data savings" mode for better web browsing when throttled. Now this uses their servers as a proxy so I wouldn't do online banking or anything with it, but for basic web surfing it should prove much faster than the web browsers typically installed on most people's phones. Heck, the ad-blocking alone probably saves literally megabytes of data transfer per page, websites have gotten so bloated these days.
Firefox with the uBlock Origin addon installed is also a good contender.

Tipp:
I think they don't understand that there are two Opera browser apps.
Opera Mini (Old school opera-mini, small file size, Already has Ad-Blocker)
Opera Browser (Chromium based, Big file size, Google Chrome Alternative)
Just for grins I put my TMO phone into EDGE mode and tried surfing with the Opera Mini app. It definitely helps speed up Web pages and makes the experience bearable at slow speeds. Give it a shot.

Try using the Opera Mini web browser in the most aggressive data saver mode in the settings. That should at least make web browsing easier, as the page gets rendered on Opera's servers and optimized before being sent to you.

Just install the app and set the data saving mode to 'extreme'. Everything else is automatic. As you browse, Opera Mini acts as a proxy. It receives all the data first, in order to strip down the page to whatever's viewable by the eye, and to compress it and to eliminate ads. So it presents a sanitized version of whatever webpages you are viewing, which has the side benefit of preventing malware, other than files you specifically choose to download.
In opera mini This one-> https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.opera.mini.native
You can click on video and it will ask you for video player and if download box appers then long press on video to copy video url.
Pake Opera Mini bisa buka reddit tanpa VPN. Cuma interface redditnya jadi agak fucked up. Kalo HP rooted bisa coba pake DNScrypt.
Dammit Nexus 5X. I want Nexus 6P but there is a very high chance that it will never enter Indonesia officially. ARGH.
I use two browsers:
Opera Mini, as long as I don't mind being minimalist and especially if I want to conserve data
Firefox otherwise
I found a weird solution If you want notifications (Not sure If they come in instantly or every hour etc) - I use Opera Mini on my phone and I receive facebook notifications from it; Otherwise It's just a browser experience like Tinfoil.

There are No Notifications settings as of yet so It notifies you and Vibrates (Which I dislike).
Opera Mini compresses more than just images. You can adjust the image compression settings, but you can't turn off Opera Mini's compression altogether.
Opera Mobile, on the other hand, can toggle data saving on or off, like Chrome's Data Saver setting.
I think the browser is called Opera.
I wonder what an Oprah browser would be like...
I'm guessing Opera Mini comes pretty close to consuming the least amount of memory. It's incredibly lightweight.
Google Maps now has offline search and navigation, so make sure you pre-download your route and any areas you'll be visiting.
Use Opera Mini as your default browser. Opera Mini has the best data compression among all Android browsers, because it downloads the webpage on a remote server and renders a simplified version of it locally. This can save like 80-90% of your web data. Also, if you need to use Chrome for some reason, you can enable data compression from the menu. This is nowhere near as good as Opera Mini's compression though.
Turn off Sync - this minimises the chances that unwanted apps might update info when you turn on your data. The easiest way to do this is to from the notification toggles/widget or if you don't have those, from Settings -> Accounts -> Google and turn off all options. You might need to repeat this for other account types.
Restrict Background Data. This option goes one step further and turns off background data, so apps that just refresh normally in the background will not do so. With #3 and #4, you can be fairly certain that when you turn your data on, it won't suddenly spike on its own.
Uninstall or disable any unwanted apps. If e you want to be extra cautious, uninstall any Internet apps that aren't critical during your trip, eg: Facebook, Skype, Snapchat etc. If you're rooted, you can use Titanium Backup to freeze the apps instead.
Opera Mini would probably suit your needs.

I have the same phone. I don't recommend rooting the phone in part because it takes expert skills and you might brick it if you do it wrong, and in part because Tracfone might block network access from rooted phones (it seems that many prepaid/no-contract MVNOs don't allow rooted phones -- I used to have Virgin Mobile and there was an explicit prohibition on using rooted phones).
Having said, it is impossible to entirely deGoogle as long as you are using Android.
However, you can do several things to reduce Google's hold on your data:
