What's your device?
For Android you could just download the PirateBox app and set it up. You need to root your phone first though.
For iOS there's afaik no PirateBox, but a similar app LibraryBox should do the same I think.
I am still something of a newbie to the underlying Piratebox project all of this is ultimately based on, so I can't simplify it any further or extend it to any other form of hardware. If you have a rooted Android phone you can download an app that lets you share files with a similar interface over a private network that you can rename to whatever you want. I'd like to adapt the installation files explicitly to be shared with this app but I'm not at that point with the project yet.
If you have a rooted Android device, you could run PirateBox. Then they'd just have to connect to the WiFi signal, connect via any browser on any device, and upload the photos.
Or another option without a rooted device would be a SanDisk Connect. Works almost the same way the PirateBox would.
You actually can do this with android if you have root too
It's in beta right now

Yea sure man.
When I'm done, I'll upload the whole folder so you can just replace it on your new "pirate box" (that I'll explain to you now)
And best thing of all is, You don't even need to go buy new hardware, you can just download the app to your android phone. (I bought a router AND I'm hosting it on my phone)
If you want to buy a dedicated one Link 1
Or if you want to use your Android phone Link 1 Link 2
[Edit] You're welcome to pm me any time you need help
You can also use a rooted Android phone (to setup a pirate box) and this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.fun2code.android.piratebox
If you're talking about this one, it requires android 2.3
With a rooted Android phone is easy, with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.fun2code.android.piratebox&hl=en
Make a piratebox out of it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.fun2code.android.piratebox

I'm not sure I understand the question. If you want to give a "second life" to your android device, you can:
Transform it in a portable media center or sharing platform ? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.fun2code.android.piratebox http://lifehacker.com/mizuu-turns-your-android-device-into-a-good-looking-med-1475204252 http://lifehacker.com/5915083/how-to-turn-your-android-into-an-awesome-portable-media-and-gaming-center
If the camera is decent, it can also be a pretty cool IP webcam. Either for surveillance or simply for video calls on your computer.
A pretty handy multipurpose remote for your computer with software like Unified Remote.
A home automation station with Tasker ?
Anyway there is a ton of fun things to do with old android phones :)
