I use Quality Time and it does exactly what you're describing.
It monitors the amount of time you spend on each app. How many times you've unlocked your phone. How long you've used to your phone. And you can set up alerts on usage, per app usage etc..
It records this information daily and you can review the past two weeks for your usage (paid allows you to review past 6 months usage).
This might not be what you're looking for, but you could use Quality Time to track time spent on various apps.
You can see each days usage of each app like this
Not built in (unless you're on Android Pie), but there are a shit ton of apps for this on the Play Store, here's one to begin with:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerodesktop.appdetox.qualitytime
I had this as one of my personal goals this past week and it did wonders, so I challenge EVERYONE to no more than 2 hours of non-work screen time (including phone, TV, tablets, but not kindle)
I just used a countdown timer that I activated every time I turned on my screens to something other than work, but apps like Quality TIme can also work.
The app looks ok. I can't find how to purchase the premium version. The app allows you to start without registering an account, which I did, but I've got the feeling the premium unlock might be tied to your account that you create with them.
Looks promising though with good presentation of stats and usage alerts. I'll try it for a while and give it a go.
Here's the link if anyone is interested: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerodesktop.appdetox.qualitytime
Edit: without an account the app keeps 2 weeks of stats. With a free account you get 6 months of stats. The free account also let's you unlock the premium version via an in app purchase, currently $7.50 instead of $9.99. This premium version gives you 2 years of stat retention.
I'm going to keep using it for a bit to see what it's like.
Thanks for this! I've always wanted to use Forest but failed at it miserably. I found an app called QualityTime that works way better for me - it tells you how often you've unlocked the screen and how long you were on your phone right from the notifications tray. It also tracks hours of use on different apps. Those numbers staring back at me are all the motivation I need. Also, have you ever given Zenkit a go? It's like Trello/Basecamp/Asana & MindMeister all rolled into one ;)
The first thing is to realize the triviality of getting anxious by an app. When you look at it from an objective distance, It's just a piece of code. You can shut it out any minute.
Secondly, Stop comparing your everyday life with someone else's highlight reel. The Internet is a place where people almost always show their best selves (except Reddit :-) )...they won't show their hardships, their anxieties and loneliness on it.They won't show the boring part (which is fortunately or unfortunately the biggest) on the internet. Realize this and stop comparing like RIGHT NOW.
If you can, I would highly suggest giving up social media for at least a month. That includes WhatsApp as well. Go for good ol' text messaging for important stuff. Use the mobile for it's intended use, i.e to make and take call. This will also stir clear the unwanted people from your life and give way to real friends.
Track the amount of time you spend on the apps using https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerodesktop.appdetox.qualitytime&hl=en . Convert those wasted hours into something productive.
I've linked it in another comment, but that doesn't matter, I have heard this application should work somewhat the same
You can create timed 'modes' and set different settings re: what applications you have access to and what notifications are received/ silenced. Also provides interesting usage statistics on your phone apps.
350 apps
In the last 1 week, I've used 50 of them for more than 5 minutes
(Used QualityTime to check)
A lot of my apps are working in the background and the provide functionally to other apps..
And I have a lot of apps that work as a contingency (i.e. 2 gallery apps, file mangers, Instagram (GBInsta), browsers, etc.)
I get 5h5m consistently, with 107 apps installed, no Facebook app, the main culprits in my case are: Slide for Reddit, Instagram (which I've been trying to limit the use of in the last months), and Chrome/PocketCasts tied in third place...
If I stopped using Instagram and lived in a zone with better coverage I'm sure I could get the 6h SOT
If you want to know more about your app-using habits I suggest installing Quality Time, it's always on on the background, with an extremely light footprint on battery
I recommend QualityTime to keep track of your app usage with no impact on battery time, I'll share some screenshots later...

QualityTime
I've been using this the past week or so, and it's been wonderful to track usage w/ minimal (I haven't noticed any) impact on battery.
That being said, I've never heard of the other app linked here, I'll check that out, too!
Thanks for posting this. I don't see myself using it to alert me on what I'm doing but it will be cool to see how much time I spend on certain apps.
Here's the Android Google Play link (I hope it's the same app you recommended): Quality Time
RescueTime basically tracks your time spent on websites and apps when connected to internet. They also have offline tracking but in a premium plan which I can't but yet.
For offline tracking I used QualityTime.
r/VBassmeister suggested UBehind for offline track. They both are great at what they do.
For PC browser I use rescuetime extension.
Qualitytime It tracks your phone usage by counting the number of times you unlock your phone and the amount of time you spend on each app. Similar to concept of the Mozilla extension Mind the time.
I am using Quality Time. It gives you a daily report on the usage of your smartphone, keeps track of which app has been used etc. Very useful.
i installed Quality Time today, it tracks what you do with your phone and could interrupt you if you set it to if you're using an app too much.
idk if this helps you
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerodesktop.appdetox.qualitytime
I use "QualityTime - My Digital Diet" - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerodesktop.appdetox.qualitytime
/r/nosurf has some apps that could help with that. on my phone I use quality time
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerodesktop.appdetox.qualitytime
Quality Time is an app that tracks overall and per app phone usage.
I use QualityTime for blocking distracting apps when I need to go to bed. Also, AppDetox can do similair, but different things. Like giving yourself a time limit per app per Day.
Forest is also worth a try, esspecially for when you easiely get distracted when studying.
People has told me this is the equivalent for Android
you mean something like Quality Time?
Quality Time has this feature and presents your usage stats in a nice way.

Okay... here we go.
Do It! Prove It! is a 'real life achievement site', meaning is a to-do list website of sorts. When someone is completing, achieving or accomplishing a goal, they want positive reinforcement. I saw on your website that you, personally, are denying 'proof' of an achievement. That's not very positive.
If you use Asana or other task-oriented to-do lists, you'll find that when you complete a task, you get a sound, cute graphic or a positive reinforcement. This encourages you to use the platform more and without judgement from others.
Here are a few suggestions:
Redesign -
Remove 'denied', 'unproven' or 'pending approval' requests. There are just immediate 'Approved' requests, immediately once submitted. You could make this account based (private) or public for all to see on the front page. Make the 'accomplishments' or tasks front and center to the community. You have plenty of space on your website, may as well use it all.
This could help activity with second-updates when someone adds a task to achieve. Having the ability for only the creator of the achievement to 'achieve' it. Find a template that fills the page, similar to Reddit which allows for easy adding of tasks with a "Add your task" big on the top. Also a dark theme (not light) might increase viewers (think Imgur).
Not saying it will get it to success but the site redesign might help.
Root Basis is an interesting concept and I can understand where you were trying to do.
Again, a massive redesign is needed. Constructive criticism, the website looks like a 90s 1st-gen design. Use a simple wordpress and you'll be 100% better.
The explainer video doesn't have any sound, so its less engaging. You in the background nice and peppy would certainly help.
The UX/UI (user experience, user interface) design of the completion page is very basic. Too basic. You can find an easy "Admin panel" for wordpress that you could edit to enhance the design.
BUT, overall, a regular person working 9-5 job, busy, stressed and possibly already has to do a time sheet, like an Ad Agency, doesn't want to fill out something to see what they did today. It's one more task that adds to their work load.
For example, I like to automate things in my life if possible. I have an app on my phone called Quality Time that tells me which apps I use the most each day. I don't check it monthly to see which apps took over my life, but daily it provides an update to me so I get real-time feedback of my time spent.
You could do this most likely in a Chrome plugin also specifically for browser use. Telling you which websites you frequented during the day and a time frame of that usage.
The reason to-do sites like Asana are successful is because they promote positive encouragement when tasks are completed. Similar, Quality Time provides 'possibly' positive feedback of the apps I used.
I wouldn't spend more time on this, personally.
http://randomquestionoftheday.com/ is cool, but other services exist. One I can think of within Reddit is /r/AskReddit.
If you can find a redesign mentioned for Do It! Prove It! you could use the same one for random question of the day, have Reddit questions link to your website in a pretty feed and have the ability to ask other questions also. This would give the ability to create a feed of questions that consistently come in and your audience the ability to ask as well. You could probably tie it to Quora as well with an API for answers.
Overall, were you looking to make money off of these ideas or just personal projects for fun?
EDIT: Didn't reply to your post-mortem email idea.
Interesting idea, similar to Julian Assange and WikiLeaks. If he doesn't type a password in, data is leaked.
Similar to your idea, there are some downfalls. People go on trips, international, national, camping, etc. Service isn't always available, which hinders the attempt to type in a password or revert to another 24-hour period.
Also, the idea that I have to log into one more website to make sure something is safe (in this case me) is not appealing. I can see some interested in the idea, but I am not sure how you would monetize it where you would cover costs. Who would pay $5/month for that? Okay, $1? After server costs, advertising, processing fees, etc. Is it worth it?

Glad to help. I also have QualityTime which tells me how much time I've spent on each app

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerodesktop.appdetox.qualitytime&hl=en to anyone interested to do the same for android phone.
For me is Quality Time. It tells me which apps I use the most throughout the day/week/month.
If you're on Android, this might be what you're looking for.
Install quality time on the phone: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerodesktop.appdetox.qualitytime&hl=en

The internet is a great tool but it's use is not harmless. Research has shown that use of social media, adult sites, and smart phone apps induces neuroplastic changes in the brain. The resulting changes can cause problems with focus, attention span, and memory. The good news is that by changing your habits you can return to your deep, linear state of mind.
We are dedicated to helping people spend less time mindlessly browsing the internet.

i haven't found an app that blocks websites.
I use these.... Quality Time - Measure the time using for each app and make alerts https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.zerodesktop.appdetox.qualitytime&hl=es_419 Appdetox- Block apps ( you make the rules) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.dfki.appdetox&hl=es_419
and the last one called FocusNow http://zx.yy.com/ this works as a pomodoro and the main goal is to make grow a farm (yes like famville) and you can see your ranking each week vs chinese people because this is a chinese app, but don't worry almost everything is translated to english. you can read about this app here http://kotaku.com/farmville-like-app-wants-people-to-put-their-phones-dow-1674000190
>DW is only on Pixel phones
It works on android one devices and most other stock android phones, although i agree that it doesn't support as many devices as AD.
>That's why it's getting hype.
It doesn't deserve the hype, though.
Why would i use it instead of QualityTime
or YourHour
or StayFree
All of which do the same thing and can block apps as well (on any phone).
