I have a Sony phone, and personally I don't view their handling of this as an issue. When you first open the Xperia Lounge app, it explains the situation and you can opt-out on the spot. Still, I can see why people would dislike it.
I'd like to hope that this would push demand for stock Android on phones, instead of just jumping fence to iOS. OEM skins are really bringing the perception of the entire OS down.
.
UNRELATED EDIT: Just realised you're the dev behind Redirect File Organiser. If there are any more Android lurkers around, I definitely recommend you check it out.
Edit:"this would still be a great feature to free up space" how so? He could already automatically save photos to his sd card.
There's already apps that move app data to SD, or there is redirect file manager that organizes files based on extension and organizes them based on where you want them and can even connect to your PC when you're away from the home allowing you to transfer files (or organize them on your pc as well if I remember right) and it can organize your stuff when you're not using your phone so it can all be handled automatically

>File explorers. I feel like I'm finally at the big kids table. I like that I can simply download a file, put it where I want and not have to use overly complicated app linking or forced cloud 'features' to just grab a file. iOS is absolute shit when it comes to this.
Check out Redirect File Organizer. I use it with my phone to move files around to my micro sd card, which helps to keep my phone clutter free and where I want files. I mainly use it for pictures, but you can set it for anything.
> Swipe gestures discouraged? I feel like swiping gestures is almost not present in Android which is weird. Where I used to just be able to swipe to go back a page on iOS i have to press the back button. Where in IMDB on iOS I could swipe to see more of the cast of a movie I now have to select a 'see full cast' button. This part feels less intuitive but I don't really understand why because it's not like the gesture wouldn't work on Android?
I would give Nova Launcher, depending on how custom you want to get. With nova, it replaces the way your home screen works, allowing you to do a bit more with it. I am not sure of the Z5 specifically, unfortunately.
> Is there any equivalent to Photo Stream for iOS? I'm so used to all my photos being automatically backed up to my iMac but not sure how to do this with android? As a temporary fix I turned on the Amazon CloudDrive backup for now...
You can back them all up to Google Drive. If you want to have unlimited backup, then you'll photos will be made into a compressed model. If you want full resolution, you'll need to use your Google Drive storage. It's not horribly priced, and it's pretty automatic. Where would you like to keep your photos?
If Camscanner automatically saves to a specific directory, you can use Redirect File Organiser to automatically send the photos to Google Drive.
linkme: Redirect File Organizer
No root required for what you want to do.
Root is required to access system files and the /data partition.
The best app for your use would be https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tobino.redirectsfree
just save your music in a filed marked for saving to PC, and it will automate the process for you. you can automatically transfer different media to specific folders so you don't have to manually organize everything. personally i just use a file browser with NAS capability, and transfer files over wifi to a shared folder. No wires, and it can copy in the background while you do other stuff.
I'd vote for Resilio Sync.
If your camera can't save photos into arbitrary folder (to keep it within a tree), try Open Camera (which has a lot of options) or use some tool to move files between folders automatically (I use Redirect File Organizer - old, but works fine on Android 6/7).
I love this Google Photos feature, but the "fee" version that doesn't count against my Google Drive limit compresses the file. It may look alright, but I'd still like to have the original archived on my desktop before Google wipes it from my phone.
I used to use Redirect File Organizer to duplicate files when I connect to home wifi every night, but that was a while back. Now the Play ratings have taken a dive and people are saying the latest version doesn't work as well. Does anyone know what's going on or have an alternative?
Thats perfect, I can mout the smb share on my HTPC and android phone, then use programs like Downloads Router and Redirect File Organizer
Currently, I've only been using uncategorized blackhole with great results, I just use deluge to auto categorize based off tracker using Label plugin.
I use this but i don't have external SD Card (I have N5). Normally you have to give them permission in the system app setting for them to be able to use the storage.

There was an app that did this, and also had the feature of moving certain file types to folders of your choosing. Basically to organize your downloads better. Can't remember what it's called at the moment though.
Edit: Found it!
See if Redirect File Organizer does what you want.
It was made by someone on Reddit a while back and has been kept up pretty well. When first stated, it only had one function: to add rules to certain folder. Now it's more involved, but it might be just what you're looking for in terms of organizing your sub-folders and files.
1) There's no G4 setting for this, but certain apps (Tapatalk, for one) let you set their download directory. Redirect File Organizer may accomplish what you're trying to do.
Hmm. How about you try and check out the app Redirect File Organizer. The gist of it is that it can automate file transfer based on parameters you set. It claims it can do it even between android device and computer. I never tried it though, as I didn't pay for it.

They're Chinese. There's no God of Copyrights there :)
Maybe use something like Redirect Folder Organizer to automatically move the downloaded files to your Google Play Music Upload directory on your PC (which then would upload those to your library)? It should work, but I haven't had the time yet to try it out.
I haven't used this one yet, but I really should organize my files more: Redirect File Organizer is an app that can do what you want.
Redirect File Manager - I use this to backup my photos to my PC
Pako - Car Chase Simulator - Addictive game!
Pujie Black - One of the best Android Wear Watchface
Wear Fap counter - This one is just plain ಠ_ಠ but interesting way of using your Android Wear watches ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
Illus - My current favorite icon pack
Redirect File Organizer. Periodically move different update apks (from Magisk, Show Box etc.) to Downloads folder; photos to Picture folder etc.
AppSwap. I hardly have to open app drawer.
Custom Navigation Bar. Added a screenshot button on the left end and a button to launch AppSwap at the right end.
Redirect File Organizer looks like it could work for you.
Not exactly what you want but it may make the process easier in the absence of another solution
I use Redirect File Organizer to clean up my photos. I put all things that come from apps into a single Downloads folder.
