https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.pala.resources is really nice, I know some people switching/playing both. It offers big variety - one can travel to build mines, travel to collect loot or just sit at home, expanding factotries and speculating on the market (and of course combine these)
Definately gonna try those, like me some good GPS games.
Have to mention my favourite at the moment, which I think is getting too little attention - Resources:

> How much does actually getting out and about the city matter for playing?
Quite a bit. There's very, very little you can do without getting out and about.
>Im usually in one of a few handful of places, not much roaming around.
That can change :) You might decide, if you start playing, to visit places you otherwise wouldn't.
Resources is another game that requires you to visit locations, but it's waaaaay more solo than Ingress. You only really have to get to a location one time and after that it really doesn't matter much if you go there again.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.pala.resources Multiplayer international GPS based mining market game. Walk around, scan for resources, place mines, refine product, buy and sell off the market, upgrade your hq, up your ranking, attack locals or repair their mines for cash. Highly recommend giving it a shot
Anyone else here play Resources?
I tried to build an oil well and it produces less revenue than a clay pit, even though clay pits are 1/100th of the cost.
Bruh.
I think crude oil in that game has gone down in value by like 50% in the last 3 months, and down almost 70% from its peak in May. I think a lot of the oil wells were made at those prices.
Feels like the fracking bust once long term prices went under $50, lol.
Resources, where you set up mines for different resources in various locations, and try to maximize your profit, is pretty fun if you're into that sort of thing.

There's also the classic, Ingress.

She may be interested in Resources. It has no focus on visiting significant places, and more in exploring and economic management. Basically they use an assortment of randomly generated heatmaps to create deposits of various minerals and such. You then go place mines wherever you want and use the production to expand. There are some minor PVP elements, but they're mostly ignored because they aren't terribly profitable. Community is generally pretty helpful and supporting, as long as someone isn't just begging for money or resources.

Still playing it after all this time. The only GPS based game that isn't pay to win after a while. I still play it now after getting it in college.
Resources - GPS MMO It's a resource gathering ARG where you have to physically go out to scan for various resources. You walk around your neighbourhood and place mines to extract a variety of resources. Helps me stay on top of exercise and gives me an excuse to go outside more. There's an in game chat/market system and the community is very helpful.
You need to look at Resources Game (GooglePlay link). This game has own gameplay wich more better than pokemonGO
This is a little wacky but check it out

Build in game mines tied to a shared geographical map. Like Ingress but with resources. Buy and sell from other players or hire the mafia to destroy nearby mines. I played for a couple months.
One game you may have missed is Resources Game. Essentially you go out into the real world, scan for and then mine deposits of various materials.

Resources is a really cool little AR game that is playable regardless of population in your area. I'm on it constantly when travelling.
I'm a PC gamer that is new to mobile gaming on Android. I can recommend Resources as a very unique GPS based "parallel world" multiplayer game. It's a bit rough along the edges (it's a one dev project), but I'm having a lot of fun with it.
hmm, i guess if i were you i'd go and play GPS games for a couple of times, to get a real feeling for it. Afterwards it's not the hardest of things to use gmaps or osm. They should have good libraries for every major platform.
I'd throw in https://www.geocaching.com/ which has as far as i know an app for every major platform and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.pala.resources to see how accuracy works with placing constraints.
Bei Resources kann man rumlaufen und Fabriken bauen. Je nach Terrain kommen andere Rohstoffe vor.

I have also been looking for a game like this as well. Ogame is an excellent game, but I haven't been able to find something that compares unfortunately.
However, If it's a game with a simple UI that doesn't require a lot of attention, and you can pull it up at any given time - Believe it or not I have found that the GPS game RESOURCES is pretty damn fantastic.
Reason I'm saying this is because the only time you need to actually go out and walk around, is for when you're placing down mines. Once the mines are down, that's it. You can utilize those resources from anywhere.
After finding this out, I went out to a gigantic field in the middle of nowhere and walked around placing down mines as closely as possible and placed down headquarters. I've been collecting, refining, and selling those resources this entire time. and I'm actually pretty dang high up in the game.
I know it's not what you're looking for, but I myself was looking for an Ogame substitute and ended up falling in love with this. Maybe it's worth a shot?

If not, then you should try TORN. Again, Not the 4x strategy you're looking for as it's hard to compare - but it's the largest text based MMO out there. Once you "get" it, You're in fact living another life with everyone else in the sandbox city of TORN.

EDIT: Ohh, and of course if you haven't heard of it - There is always RPG FOR DESTINY.
Do you have an android phone? We've got a good community of folks playing Resources and holding a get together each week. PM MarkTraceur ingame for an invite.
There's a group on meetup that plays board games each week. Probably multiple groups.
If you play Magic there's dozens of shops to play at. Universe Games has Pauper on Saturday if you've ever wanted to give that a try in paper.
Movies in the park is a thing that happens all over the place, even out in the suburbs.
There are some folks racing drones: https://www.meetup.com/Minnesota-Autonomous-Vehicle-Meetup/events/227192256/ https://www.facebook.com/MidwestDroneRacingb/

Mostly along the same vein there is this Android game: Resources
Resources is an incremental game as far as I'm concerned, and it's pretty decent!
