Minnesota is what I describe as garage racism. Get several buddies and some beer together in a garage and out comes the hot takes. There is still plenty of racism in mn, they're just better at hiding it.
The south may be racist but at least a lot of communities aren't so isolated.
Minnesota can, and should, strive to better but it's a tough struggle. Poverty and discrimination have a lot of inertia and there is plenty of hate to go around in Minnesota.
Also a plug for a wondeful book from a doctor in my small hometown who took a risk by pursuing his goal of being a rural doctor.

... I mean, sure... you could even do a Groupon option: https://www.groupon.com/deals/tlc-vision-corp-minneapolis-stpaul
But if it’s elective surgery for your vision do you really want to select providers based on cheapest price?
I found a couple follow up articles on this sad, weird story:
FTA:
>Over the past year, Ellison's office has been hearing from families affected by the process. A mother who got rear-ended and was deported for not having a driver's license is one that sticks in his mind. Another is a business owner who's been here for years and was forced to leave his auto body shop and employees because he was picked up by ICE.
I don't think you read the article correctly. Legal representation should be a fundamental right. ICE, which recently was in the news for starting deportation proceedings on a little girl recovering from emergency surgery after attempting to snatch her en route to the hospital doesn't have anyone's best interest at heart.
John Dillinger Slept Here is a pretty darn good account of gangster activity in and around St. Paul during the Roaring 20s and Great Depression. You can still visit caves they used to hide in or make illegal alcohol in.
Similarly, Subterranean Twin Cities is a wry, funny at times look at the caves below the city.
And, strangely, one of the best books I've ever read about the Twin Cities is a fiction series of mystery novels in the Nils Shapiro anthology by Matt Goldman. The first book is a love letter to the Twin Cities, and the second book is a love letter to the MN State High School Hockey Tournament. Funny, local, and well written.
Truth. Rich black guys still have their homes vandalized with racist messages. Even when you escape poverty you can't necessarily escape race.
I have the Intex Explorer K2, a 2-person inflatable kayak and it’s perfect for occasional use.

Overall, at that price point and for its convenience and portability, I’ve been super happy with the purchase. Hope that helps!
No, it may be factual but it's not a good point -- you're missing statistics.
Being a police officer, at the population level is not even in the 10 most dangerous jobs according to BLS, suicide is the most common cause of death for police officers (except in 2020, it has been COVID) and most importantly being a police officer is a job you sign up for voluntarily.
"Existing as a POC" is not a job or a choice. Being a minority should not be more dangerous than not being a minority, whereas being a police officer is inherently more dangerous than being an accountant or some other job where you don't regularly deal with people breaking the law.
You're being completely disengenous and it's extremely obvious. We get it, you're a police bootlicker and are fine if our police force has no consequences for their actions. That's a great stance. If you are actually using these data to from your opinion and think you're somehow correct, I recommend checking out one of these online courses about statistics.
Let the 1 percent make all the economic gains, and keep everyone else's wages the same. That's the only way to fight the true scourge of the economy - inflation!
You can always look at AirBnB as well. This looks pretty nice to me.
City Pages' event calendar is usually what I use to look for events but Facebook just launched/relaunched it's standalone app called Facebook Local that seems to have everything! Beware, it is a huge download for an app.
For sure check out the State Fair Website. I did for the first time this year and found a ton of great stuff that I would have otherwise missed.
Getting there: I'm a huge fan of the park and ride. If I'm going to park on site I get there EARLY, like 0600. Also, it costs to park.
Tickets: Check with your employer. You may get a discount. Otherwise buy them early or go on a date where you're getting a special.
When to go: I like to take a weekday off and go in the morning. I also like to do an evening on a weekday.
Phone app: There's an app for that! It's not perfect but it helps.
Pro Tip: At Sweet Martha's Cookie stands (there's more than one) some of them have lines on the side that everyone forgets about. Get in those lines.
I'll have to take a look at your blog later but I wanted to drop in and let you and others know that there's an app called mncraft.beer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=beer.mncraft.android) not sure if it's on iOS.
It's a pretty good app and lets you check off the breweries you've been to. You can also link it to untapped and it will mark which beers you've had at those breweries.
Wifi or wired? If it's wireless download something like Wifi Analyzer and see crowded your channels are. I went from 15 mbps back to my rated 50 by changing to a lesser used channel.
If it's wired, start by resetting your modem and router. I've had my speeds crap out when one gets flaky. Also, try plugging directly into your modem. If your router is starting to die it could be slowing things down.
Is there anything indicating if the person goes to MCAD? Schedule, student ID? Because that was my first guess.. I know plenty of people there that may have heard about something being stolen through the grapevine... and it's pretty much straight south of the campus and EXACTLY on the bus 18 route.
I suppose that's true; 45° in February, it's most likely a clear day.
And actually for Oct 2021, there were three days with a high that was sub-50° -- although it was 49° on each of those days 😜 I had forgotten what a beautiful month that was. We've been in a cold hole since late December, and I'm pretty tired of it.
https://www.wunderground.com/history/monthly/us/mn/minneapolis/KMSP/date/2021-10
Nah. It'll maybe be somewhat icy, but I doubt it'll be actual snow. Maybe the Eskimos have a special word for it.
Hey friend, invest in a nice winter helmet, they make some specifically for bikes. Ski helmets also work. I’ve personally got the Giro Timberwolf and I love it - very comfortable and keeps me warm with operable vents.
OutdoorMaster Ski Goggles PRO - Frameless, Interchangeable Lens 100% UV400 Protection Snow Goggles for Men & Women https://www.amazon.com/dp/B014XKTFI0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_EA5C33FAJGSYZ9E979HE
That’s what I use for goggles and I really like them. You can swap lenses easily since the days are shorter.
I would also second the advice on a set of winter tires. They changed everything for me for winter cycling. You’ll definitely ruin your regular bike with the grime from the road spray and good fenders are also worth it - they’ll help protect components.
As far as clothing goes it’s best to experiment and layer. Figure out what works the hard way but you get used to it. I also have issues with my feet staying warm but my commutes tend to be shorter because of that.
Stay safe!
It's too cold in mn to get by with just a heat pump. Mini split systems with forced air gas furnaces are probably the new standard. Essentially nobody has electric or oil heat. Many houses under the flight path of msp have had upgraded doors windows and insulation. Single pane windows and poor wall insulation (eg half full of vermiculite) are more common than you'd think.

Check this out. Bike Lanes Are White Lanes: Bicycle Advocacy and Urban Planning
>In this study of three prominent U.S. cities—Milwaukee, Portland, and Minneapolis—Hoffmann examines how the burgeoning popularity of urban bicycling is trailed by systemic issues of racism, classism, and displacement. From a pro-cycling perspective, Bike Lanes Are White Lanes highlights many problematic aspects of urban bicycling culture and its advocacy as well as positive examples of people trying earnestly to bring their community together through bicycling.
> How much does actually getting out and about the city matter for playing?
Quite a bit. There's very, very little you can do without getting out and about.
>Im usually in one of a few handful of places, not much roaming around.
That can change :) You might decide, if you start playing, to visit places you otherwise wouldn't.
Resources is another game that requires you to visit locations, but it's waaaaay more solo than Ingress. You only really have to get to a location one time and after that it really doesn't matter much if you go there again.
Those with some time on their hands might find this 1954 appellate case regarding a similar law in Chicago interesting reading (I teach it); the court was asked by opposing attorneys to decide whether or not the law was for public safety or a basic traffic regulation. The majority held it was meant as a public safety measure, thus holding in favor of a previous decision for the plaintiff who was injured when a thief stole an idling taxicab and drove it into the plaintiff's car (the cab company was the defendant).
Thats on my list for this week. Gawd it would be so nice to pee outside standing up on Sunday.
Here's a deal on groupon where you can drive a Lamborghini Gallardo, Corvette z06, or Ferrari f430 3 laps for $100 that's if she's into cars. https://www.groupon.com/deals/drive-1-exotics-minneapolis-st-paul
Crawloween Minneapolis at The Pourhouse, The Exchange, Gay 90s, The Pint, & Shout House Dueling Pianos. Tickets are $15, but I believe there are still Groupon tickets for $8. It's my first year going but it sounds like it'll be a lot of fun!
My buddies rented a place here on multiple occasions (non-consecutive). The location was only a couple blocks from 35E/Yankee, and it's proximity to shopping and food is great. About anything you could want is within a mile.

I understand the Salvation Army in Burnsville is open. I realize you're in the northern suburbs, but that tells me there may be other SAs open. Worth some calls to the ones around you (or can you delegate that to someone if you're busy?) to find out. Keep in mind they may not take everything you have.
Your county likely has a drop-off site for recycling and hazardous materials; many of them have areas where you can drop off items other people could use.
I don't know about places that sell ebay on consignment but a quick search through the services section of craigslist or Facebook Marketplace or nextdoor.com (if you're on those sites) might turn up someone.
If you want to know when the International Space Station flies over, you can subscribe to notifications from IFTTT:
If you live in Minneapolis, put the mattress out like you do with the rest of the trash and put a sign on it that says "Solid Waste." When the garbage people come, they'll make a note of it, a special truck will stop by in the next couple days to dispose of it. Easy and free.
If you're hell bent on giving it to someone, you could try listing it for free on NextDoor.com. My experience is that you get fewer crazies there than you do on Craigslist.
If you're not big on a varied nightlife, then yes, Lowertown is great. (My husband and I moved here about a year and a half on you, but we're old enough to be your parents. ;) )
There are more and more restaurants and stuff coming in, and if you're looking at Mears Park, then you are certainly close to many of them. The Bulldog, Barrio and Public Kitchen are all pretty full on the weekends. You also have Black Sheep Pizza, Sawatdee and Tin Whiskers in the Rossmor building (Also home to Camp and Keys Cafe)
Also down by the Farmer's Market/Ballpark, there's the Black Dog Cafe and Tanpopo, and we are probably getting some more things coming in.
You can read more about the area through some of the small local newspaper and news aggregators

Maybe I misunderstand the terminology. Mini-splits can be used for zone heating, eg a blower unit on the wall of a particular space you want to cool or heat. That's the typical "remodel a 100yr old house" application where forced-air ducting to 2nd floor bedrooms is impossible. Our current place has forced air gas heat, and I've considered installing a mini-spilt to buttress the poor airflow from our 10 year old high-efficiency furnace. The AC doesn't keep up in the south-facing bedrooms and I've wondered if a spit in that room would do the trick. Eg https://www.amazon.com/Senville-SENL-18CD-18000-Split-Conditioner/dp/B00UV3LH8U/
I've read that the associated heat pump unit that drives the head units can be plumbed directly to a forced-air furnace in the same way as your AC is. Sometimes these are called "hybrid" heat systems when they combine an air-source heat pump and a high-efficiency gas furnace.
It's the same air-source heat pump either way - just a question of where the fluid lines go to.
Oh, somewhat related, ground source or pumped (well) water heat pumps are rare in MN.
If you have any technical experience or know someone who does you can easily do a screen replacement yourself for cheaper. iFixit is my goto site for getting parts/kits/instructions. Amazon of course has this covered too.
St Paul's rules are really simple, especially compared to Minneapolis. There are "Night Plow" routes that you can't park on 9pm-8am the night the snow emergency is called. The non-night routes are from 8am until the street is clear.
The city's Winter Parking app is really good, offers push alerts, and gives an easy to read map.

VP Wealth Management - specifically Kip.
Both a financial planner and adviser, highly recommend him. He's great if you're just starting out or established already and is fee based on the last quarter's account amount.
*edit: depending on the amount of income you have vs. the student loan debt, there is a large debate within the PF community if it's better to retain the debt since it also offers tax incentives. I won't touch that as it's personal preference to me and I don't know the ins and outs of the arguments. However, most advice will always offer this - establish your 6 month emergency fund > contribute to your 401K to the company match. Hopefully, you can manage to do it at the same time. The other thing is to eliminate your debt including credit cards, auto loans, etc and to stay out of debt. Not having credit card debt is the single biggest piece of advice I can offer, if you need to put it on a card (outside business expenses), you can't afford it. On the personal finance subreddit, please read the link that "I have X amount, what should I do". After reading that, pick up Dave Ramsey's Total Money Makeover and read it through a few times along with borrowing from the library "Millionaire Next Door", specifically the intro and first chapter.
Depending on your level of assets, a financial planner / advisor may not be able to do much other then tell you to sock away money. I have one because I have rollover 401k just about yearly due to my career, but if I didn't - I would most likely just open a Vanguard retirement fund until I had more assets (about 100K in my retirement funds) and continue paying off debt / socking money away for future purchases.
The typical place people start is increasing Attic insulation to R30, then windows, then foam wrap under new siding. Windows are defintiely DIY-able.
If you have the means, an IR camera can be great at identifying where heat is leaking out of your house. eg https://www.amazon.com/FLIR-ONE-Thermal-Imaging-Camera/dp/B07DM8DG1B/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=infrared+camera&qid=1671733584&sr=8-3
Are you heating with natual gas or electricity? Have you changed the furnace filter in the last month?
Seriously look into buying one of these for your car. It can get frigid cold which will kill your car battery. This bad boy has bailed me and my friends out on more than one occasion. It's roughly the size of a small brick and will jump start your car. Can fit easily in your trunk, central console, under a seat...
VIOFO A119 V3, although it does not have Wifi compatibility (other VIOFO dash cams do though, there’s also a VIOFO app in the app store). You have to connect the camera to your computer using the small USB cord they provide.
However, the quality is very good! I capped it at 1080P because that’s all I need but it goes up to 4k. Definitely the best camera if you want bang for buck, license plates are incredibly easy to read as well. Reddit decreases the quality dramatically, though; it definitely looks better than this.
I also recommend getting the GPS Module, it records speed and location. Link: https://www.amazon.com/VIOFO-Enhanced-Vision-Starvis-Parking/dp/B07SRQH4R7 (it’s at 79.99 for the next 30 minutes, then back to 99$ until Dec 13)
Overall an 8.5 or a 9
Literally this. It was all farm fields back then, and Southdale was a new concept, an indoor shopping mall, the first in the nation. The idea is that they would draw people from the "cities" (minneapolis and st. paul proper) out to the new shopping center. To get there, they drove. Easy parking was achived with massive parking lots surrounding the mall. Heck, there was even a Red Owl Grocery store in the mall when it first opened. To the south was nothing but more farmland. Then they built the Metropolitan Stadium around the same time, have a look at photos of it when it was built, again, a stadium surrounded by farm fields. Today it's the Mall Of America. This all happened in the boom years right after WWII when the GI Bill paid for education and home loans, so it was a building bonanza. Most families could afford a car, so driving was fun and a new experience for many families. That's why you would build a huge mall with parking all around it.
If you are interested in urban planning and how it all went wrong in the 60's, and we are now trying to get back to what it was before then, I'd reccomend a book called "Suburban Nation: The Rise of Sprawl and the Decline of the American Dream" by Andres Duany, Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk, & Jeff Speck. It discusses many of these design "flaws" and how we keep repeating them. One of the worst among the flaws, cul-de-sacs! How I hate them!
Just last night I saw robot vacuums in the week 1 introduction video for Andrew Ng's Coursera course on machine learning. Maybe by the time I get to week two I'll have learned to make robot vacuums.
If you're looking for a good combination of price and location you can find some places near the University of Minnesota.
Here is one that looks promising: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/21694084?location=Minneapolis%2C%20MN%2C%20United%20States&check_in=2018-03-09&check_out=2018-03-12&s=RFMMV4Vm
You can park your car for free on the street and you can take the train to MOA, Downtown Minneapolis and Downtown Saint Paul. Also, there is some fun stuff around the University.
If you push away people supporting you, you make the world have less love, and your cause has less support.
Chappelle was not toxic in anyway, I'm not sure why the hate. Using certain words to point out that those words are hateful and ignorant is a good way to disarm those words.

Check out Kitchen of Light book and the companion PBS show, New Scandinavian Cooking. Also, check out any thing by, or any show with Magnus Nilsson. As seafarers, those on the coasts brought traditions from around the world back to Scandinavia.
You can measure the usage with one these. Sounds like inform the other comments can get one from library if you don’t want to spend the money.
These are the exact same thing sold under a different name in spain and france.
Yeah, that doesn’t seem right. When my bill was higher than I thought it should be I bought a Kill-a-Watt. You can input your energy rate and it gives you a good idea of how much power whatever’s plugged into it uses.
I used Eversharp for years, but buying a Chef's Choice electric sharpener was a step up.
It seems like one of those gizmos that's not worth it, but each time I took knives to Eversharp I was out $30-some dollars and it was just far enough away that I couldn't get there as often as I wanted.
The electric sharpener is trivial to use, and other than the first sharpening, it's super fast. I can get all 12 of my knives back to razor sharp -- sharper than even Eversharp, IMHO -- in about 10 minutes. And do it whenever I want, sometimes even on impulse when I'm starting some cooking process that involves a lot of cutting. Plus it pays for itself vs. a sharpening service after about 5 uses.
Top things I like in a dashcam:
both front and rear view cameras
high definition (mine is 1080p and it's enough to recognize a face in the cars next to me)
compatability with high-capacity SD cards, I use 128gb and it can store quite a bit of footage
parking mode to detect and record accidents while the car is off
This is the one I have. It's 170$ on amazon. Only real downside is having to run some wires around inside your car. There's plenty that have fewer wires because the camera is a single piece, but I wanted the more detailed rear view from having the secondary camera mounted right on the rear window.
You can also spend significantly less if you shop around and compromise on image quality and other features.
I have a set of these. You may want to look into getting some if MIL loves taco salads, just to have on hand. Just make sure you use bigger tortillas if you do. First, time I made them, well, we wound up with very small bowls. Amazon Tortilla Bowl Pan Set

Yeah, to me it's so obvious, but I know it's not for plenty of other people.
I sometimes use an app called Horizon if I can't hold my phone sideways. It auto-adjusts the video with gravity so it's always horizontal no matter what angle you hold it at. I wish Google and Apple would add that feature to their camera apps.

Best buy has 1, but it is $550.
Punch in 55111 as the zip. I doubt any mom and pop computer store would have a touchscreen LCD in stock. Microcenter is certainly the best B&M store to get any sort of computer gear in the Twin Cities.
It's a general rule of thumb. Also, Not mortgage AND utilities. I'm just talking about mortgage or rent.
You spend the other 72% on: food, utilities, clothing, gas/transportation, fun, etc. But setting yourself up to spend more than around 28% on your housing is a recipe for disaster. Maybe not as a college student, but getting in the habit early will help you down the road.

Scarf, mittens, wool socks (I have multiple of these) - I would say are the 3 biggest things I didn't think of before having to walk my dog in the winter here - and layers when it gets below zero (I do some kind of base layer + sweatshirt/pants + coat/jeans).
If I wasn't outside for longer periods dog walking I would probably tone it down a bit. A scarf is a game-changer though.

Thomas/Penn/Upton hills in Burnsville are similar but without any traffic. https://goo.gl/maps/BWBaZMXbSMG2
0.5m, 77ft climb, only right turns, hill repeat: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28176853
You can go up the other hills for a bit of variety.
North Burnsville is built on the river valley. Pick a route and you'll either be climbing or descending. North-South loops have greater elevation changes.
I used to do the opposite commute. Between 35W and 35E traffic flows pretty well, just be aware of what lane you need to be in and when.
The 94/35E exchange gets dicey, but never totally halts. 94/35W is a total clusterfuck and has been since before all the construction. Hopefully the new roads will fix that.
When it snows expect your commute to double or triple. Waze may find you faster routes, but it's only as good as the information being reported to it, so it's not entirely unlikely it'll accidentally shoot you down Energy Park between plowings.
Squid is a web cache/proxy. Your computer has potentially been used to mask the source of all sorts of nasty shit.
>An open proxy is a high risk for the server operator:
Such services are frequently used to break into foreign computer systems, child pornography is usually consumed through proxies, and illegal content is likely to be spread through such proxies. Such a proxy can cause a high bandwidth usage resulting in higher latency to the subnetwork and violation of bandwidth limits. A badly configured open proxy can also allow access to a private subnetwork or DMZ: this is a high security concern for any company or home network because computers that usually are out of risk or firewalled can be directly attacked.
I just thought of this... Check out Freecycle They have a "group" in Minneapolis and some other places in MN. People giving away stuff they no longer need to others who want it.
Modern farmhouse style, you say? Allow me to introduce you to Rehkamp Larson - one of their partners literally published a book about the farmhouse style several years ago. They've done several remodels and new builds in south Minneapolis - I absolutely love how their remodeling work embraces and extends the character of older homes.
I had consulted with them many years ago for my own remodeling project but ultimately went with someone else, a decision I came to regret as I was attempting to save on costs, but I ended up going way over budget with change orders and issues with contractors anyway, so in hindsight, I wish I had just spent the money on rehkamp larson... one of my other takeaways from my project would be to outsource the PM work - let the people who have experience managing contractors manage the contractors and don't attempt to do it yourself.
I have friends that have used Trehaus and also Vujovich, with no major complaints, the Trehaus project took longer than it should have but the end result was fabulous.
You certainly have time on your side, I'd suggest meeting with several firms now and discussing your ideas - best of luck!

If you have a driveway to clear, you may want a bigger model, but I've put this through wet slushy shit as well as snow higher than the blower itself, and it worked fine.
End of the day, if you get electric, storing it is chucking it under something and forgetting about it until the next winter. No dealing with gas, oil, maintenance, etc.
You shouldn’t laminate it. It should be able to be added to when/if you get a booster. You can take a picture on your phone and everywhere has been accepting that. Leave it safe at home. I got one of these to help protect it.
>I work in health care and this is inaccurate. We wear one mask all day long...Not sure where you are getting your information.
I received Hazmat training. In the case of an airborne virus in a closed room for 6 hours with roughly 30 students shouting through their napkins, there's nothing short of a full face 6800 respirator is going to be effective.
You are mistaken to believe that 3-ply mask is not saturated within an hour of use. And you are expecting proper hygiene from a child? Gimme a fucking break. This is the airport TSA security theater all over again, you sound like clowns
Maybe we need to spend TRILLIONS to fight the virus "over there" so it doesn't threaten us at home... It's triggering my PTSD from Afghanistan already...LOL
I had a hand sharpening setup and it worked but it was slow and tedious.
I loved taking my knives to Eversharp because they did a great job, but I couldn’t get there as often as I wanted.
I finally splurged and bought a Chefs Choice motorized sharpener and I love it. It sharpens your knives at a different edge angle and they stay sharper much longer. Resharpening all 12 of my Wusthof knives takes maybe 10 minutes.
I kind of miss trips to Eversharp, but I love always having my knives perfectly sharp.

No put I am in a near identical situation as you and had an HVAC company come out. They recommended Minisplit when we redo the second story but said either way without a door it won’t matter. My suggestion is put a door and deflector vent which you can get at Ace Hardware or other big box stores. A register booster might work but you’ll also be forcing dust etc into the bedroom since it’s just sucking cold air and blowing into the room.
Similar boat - I'm not from Minnesota but I'm interested in the area. I would recommend "Potluck Supper with Meeting to Follow" by Andy Sturdevant, (https://www.amazon.com/Potluck-Supper-Meeting-Follow-Essays/dp/1566893372 ) who was a transplant to the area from Kentucky I believe. It is a collection of essays but is nonetheless an entertaining read. Andy offers a little bit of an outsiders perspective, but he also has a lot of appreciation and love for the cities that really shines through in his writing.
It might be cheaper & easier to get a 20 lb tank and a device like this to fill your 1 lb tanks from the 20 lb tank.

Lol. Get shoe studs. Amazon will literally deliver them in hours if you spend the money on something they stock in Shakopee. I bought these without prime and it took like 3 days.
I follow this dude, really good on how to tattoo yourself
Yes, I tattooed myself and had my wife do my arm. cheap and you get to learn about an art form.
A complete good tattoo machine w/ practice needles can be had from Amazon for about $40 . Of course you can get a fancy gun for $300 but really , your paying for the name and some latest and greatest cool looking stainless steel rubber gripped - needle poking device - Many at the Mpls Tattoo Arts Convention are already famous folks so their art costs but if you look at their equipment, not exactly $500 machines. Most of your cost is in alcohol and needles.
I use the Toddy Cold Brew System. Super simple and works like a charm - https://www.amazon.com/Toddy-THM-Cold-Brew-System/dp/B0006H0JVW/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=toddy&qid=1561646268&s=gateway&sr=8-3
I was using tunnelbear until they were bought out by Mcafee, now using Private Internet Access. I like PIA more because they offer browser extensions that don't affect services i don't care about not being on VPN (steam, other online games etc)
As an East coast native, I wanted to throw some info in:
While the instinct can be to get yourself a huge puffy coat, it might not necessarily be the way to go. A good, heavy wool coat that you can throw layers on underneath is just as good, especially if you're not actually spending huge amounts of time outside. You're looking for something that keeps heat in and blocks the wind. If you're just walking back and forth to your car for the majority of your outside time? It's fine. My college roommate visited from Birmingham, AL a few years ago when it was pretty cold, and she did just fine with her long wool coat with layers underneath, and borrowing some of my heavier hats and gloves. (She particularly enjoyed the fur-lined ear-flap hat: learn to embrace those.)
However, I do recommend getting some really good Thinsulate boots with good waterproofing. Your feet can get cold here so quick - better to keep them dry and toasty.
Also, nice long scarves are good - not, like, Doctor Who or anything, just something long enough that you can actually secure around your neck. I fold one in half, drape it around my neck, and put the ends through the loop created by the fold, and cinch it up. Once tucked into your coat, that doesn't move, but this doesn't work well unless you have a longer scarf.
Also, a good fleece balaclava can be a good idea. I just bought this one - I'm not 100% sure I'd recommend it since it's a touch looser than I expected around my head so if it's windy while I'm using it as a hood, the air can get in - but bunched around the lower half of my face and ears leaves it super warm. It's my go-to for walking the dog, that's for sure.
(And if you have a dog? Go out and get it boots, right now. The super-cold is horrid on their paw pads.)
Maybe an escape room box that you can bring in with you? Escape Room in a Box: The Werewolf Experiment, Board Game for Adults and Kids 13+ https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0752PGG2K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_k0ekCbTV1M1H4
I really believe in this stuff, so I found you an example:
This is kind of the "traditional" therapy light. Don't buy this one, it's an unknown seller, but they have them at medical supply places, some insurance covers them too.
If you do end up having to park it on the street, get some license plate frames that cover up the bottom of the plate. I mean, these would work, but you might want to find something a little more... subtle.
just used these twist pins this past weekend on my own 2003 mazda 6. didn't want to pump in the money to replace the headliner and so far so good.

We haven't done it yet, so can't quite recommend it, but my girlfriend is planning to take classes at the Meditation Center in Northeast Minneapolis to help deal with her stressful job. In the past I also found this book, Mindfulness in Plain English , to be extremely helpful as a starting point for gaining control over my stress and emotions
We also do yoga and I rock climb which helps a lot too as physical forms of meditation
Can you use Google Voice + a box like this to be your home phone line?
If so, you can get a better internet only deal from Comcast. I personally have their base plan (55Mbps) for $39.99/month with 1 year contract, but at the time of ordering, I could increase my speed tier all the way up to Extreme 250 for an additional $10 per tier; so $49.99 for 100, $59.99 for 200 and $69.99 for 250.
I could pay an additional $10/month for no contract, but it doesn't seem like CenturyLink is bringing fiber to my street anytime soon, so I plan on sticking with Comcast for a while until that happens.
You also have 30 days to cancel a contract if you wanted to go this route and not pay an early termination fee.
My dad bought me something similar to this for Christmas a few years ago - it works very well if you remember to put it on. If you do have to park outside it's very nice to just take off the cover and not have to scrape or clear snow, now you just have to figure out where to store it! https://www.amazon.com/Ice-King-Universal-Magnetic-Windshield/dp/B01BE5Q4FY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1506434885&sr=8-3&keywords=windshield+cover
Most spools of PLA are $20-$30. You say goldenrod which sounds specific - most rolls are primary or secondary colors only. For example here's a roll of yellow PLA:
https://www.amazon.com/HATCHBOX-3D-PLA-1KG1-75-YLW-Filament-Dimensional/dp/B00J0GRREW
That said you can always paint the prints. I paint almost everything I print that's not a toy, usually 2-3 layers of primer then 2-3 layers of color. Looks great and can even get metallic looks.
You don't need to buy me a roll. I need to order some PLA anyways and as mentioned I paint everything anyways. What is the footprint size of your model again ballpark? Bounding box is fine
I don't have one, but it looks like at least the Best Buy in Inver Grove Heights might. Though it says there are 3 in stock, so you might want to order online and choose in-store pick up.
If you price match them to Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-Power-Supply-65W/dp/B01698T1TC (or at least try to) you can save a few bucks.
I only have a Surface RT, which has a totally different charger. Sorry, man, wish I could help.
Make sure you purchase one of these mace pepper spray to keep these criminals out of your hair
I would see if this kind of lock would fit and use it. I'd like to see someone cleanly cut that. I may actually switch my lock to this. http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-40DPF-Shielded-Stainless/dp/B00004SQKX/ref=sr_1_8?s=hardware&ie=UTF8&qid=1454177043&sr=1-8&keywords=padlock
