Idk, if dev posting is allowed, take down if you must.
I made this app called RadioControl. It disables cell data when you connect to a WiFi network, and reenables the cell radio when you lose a WiFi connection.
It saves battery when you get onto a WiFi network. Its mainly useful with carriers that support WiFi calling and texting. The app also requires root.
>I know about the airplane-mode -> enable wifi trick. It has some drawbacks such as having to remember to fiddle with it whenever you go somewhere or come back.
That's exactly why this can be automated. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nikhilparanjape.radiocontrol&hl=en You do need root, but that will let you set it to automatically go into airplane mode (with WiFi on) when connected to WiFi. Even has options to let Bluetooth continue to work.
Since I don't actually have tasker I use a free app to do the same thing.
I use Radio Control to force my phone into airplane mode when on WiFi. You can set certain SSIDs to not put your phone into airplane mode if you need to.

For a little while I was experiencing a bug where I wasn't getting texts/calls but it has resolved.
There are three ways (that I know of) to disable your cell radio while keeping WiFi on:
Do it manually, enable airplane mode, then re-enable WiFi. Turning on airplane mode initially turns off WiFi, but it doesn't not disable it. Root is not required for this, obviously.
Root your device and use the app RadioControl
Root your device and use the app combo Tasker & Secure Settings to manually do what RadioControl does, with more control and WAY MORE possibilities than just enabling airplane mode with WiFi on.
Hope this helps.

I also use an app called Net Guard to completely block apps while on data or situations similar.
If you are on Fi (or a carrier that supports WiFi calling), Radio Control is massively useful if you frequent buildings where WiFi is strong, but cell signal is sparse.
The battery improvement was substantial when I used it back in the day. I just really wish they would find a way to do this without root.
If you're rooted, a member here made a program specifically for this a few years ago. I would suggest joining the Beta for this app to get the latest version.

Yeah Radio Control.
It requires root, as part of an android feature for security not allowing apps to put your phone into airplane mode.
I've been wanting to use this for home, but I'm on Stock Nougat.
Honestly thinking about just saying screw Android Pay and go back to a modded setup, probably CM or PureNexus.
Here's the app. It doesn't switch based on strength, it's whether you're connected to wifi or not. It's very quick to switch, and you can blacklist wifi networks you want it to ignore.

You're right, that would work. It's just a pain to have to do it by hand all the time.
I heard about this app RadioControl that will do it automatically for you. Unfortunately, it needs root so I have to look into how to root my phone. I've never done something like that and it sounds a bit scary.

You can always force WIFI calls outgoing or incoming with this little app, I been using it since nov and so far is super stable. If your job has WIFI access you can make calls even from the basement if WIFI is strong enough.
I use Radio Control to force my phone into airplane mode when on WiFi to save battery. Bonus is whenever there's a problem with the WiFi I should notice right away because the airplane isn't there.

This. I use RadioControl to go into airplane mode automatically when connected to wifi to force all calls over VoIP.
If your carrier supports WiFi calling, try my app out, RadioControl.
In a nutshell, when you connect to WiFi, it enables airplane mode to disable the cell radio, and when you leave WiFi, it turns off airplane mode. The github alphas have some benefits, but they are still alpha. Lmk if you have any questions or problems
Edit: Linked the wrong link to play store.
Doze will still kick in. I use this setting and I don't have any issues with battery life. My 6P lasts me about 2.5 days before I need to charge it and I've only actually had the phone die on me once when I didn't charge it for 3 or 4 days. I don't generally use my phone too much and I use Radio Control to force my phone into airplane mode when on WiFi to save battery.

You can put in networks where it will not put your phone into airplane mode. I haven't used that feature so I'm not sure how many it supports, but this sounds similar to what you're looking for.
I use Radio Control to force my phone into airplane mode when on WiFi to save battery. If you root this would make it so you wouldn't need to do anything as long as you're connected to WiFi.
Bummer man. I recommend rooting your device (if you haven't already) and use the app RadioControl. It will automatically put your phone into airplane mode when connected to wifi, to force all communication through wifi and get a ridiculous boost in battery life.

I get 2-3 days of battery from a full charge with like 8h SOT. My app doesn't do anything special, and the only controls are for a settings timer. lmk if you want anything added to it
I made an app to do this, but it requires root :( I'm finding a way to get it without root

For people that don't or can't bother with Tasker there is also an app to perform this specific task: RadioControl
