The issue i have with changing them in the launcher is now you have different icons in the OS and launcher. you can change them system wide (recents, settings, notifications) with xposed modules like unicon if it bothers you enough.
I've successfully used Unicon, but it requires root.
In the alternative, if you're using a custom ROM, ViperROM has a built-in hub and tweaks app that allows you to apply icon packs without an additional app.
xposed module unicon changes icons system wide, but i understand rooting, flashing a recovery, then flashing an experimental framework on top of that isn't for everyone.
That's all pretty unnessary if you just use a tool like Unicon https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sg.ruqqq.IconThemer
Replaces the icons at a low level so the new ones show everywhere, even inside the app itself.

My phone is rooted. I used Unicon (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sg.ruqqq.IconThemer) & Moonshine Icon Pack (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nexbit.icons.moonshine).

You can probably use Unicon, but you have to be rooted to use it.

OR - if you have root, get Unicon, and it will work system-wide and save you the hassle of going one-by-one.
If you're rooted you can use Unicon to apply icon packs at the system level, no custom launcher required. You just need the Xposed Framework installed, which is a breeze.
If you join the Unicon Beta G+ community, you can sign up for the beta version of Unicon, which lets you select icons for individual apps too.
