I would encourage you to invest in the Android app (may be iPhone equiv) called WikiCamps. Its people like you and me adding/commenting on campsites, and it is map based, so you zoom around a google map and look at all camp sites. It includes paid and free areas, photos, and reviews. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.angryrobot.wikicamps
This is only relevant to Aussies or travellers coming down south, but WikiCamps Australia is an amazing app that lists all the camp grounds in Australia, with heaps of information and reviews on each one. I used it on a recent trip to Tasmania, and it made the whole trip a breeze.
Wikicamps is your new best friend! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.angryrobot.wikicamps
Wikicamps app (Android, iPhone ) is good for finding camp sites with specific facilities using its filter functions.
If you'd like to camping with others, join the South East Queensland Campers Meetup group. Some of them have dogs so look for dog-friendly camp sites
