The "internal test" app has been publically on the Google Play Store for a while.
Seems like it'll be called "Amplifi Protect", part of "Amplifi Mesh Security".
It looks like this.
The hub is called the "Vault"
Before you scrap it...if you haven't already, use Fast.com to check the speeds. Amplifi's internal speed test app is junky. And are your wired devices going through a meshpoint? Or are you seeing 150Mb when your wired device is plugged into the Instant Router?
Is your cable modem just a modem? Or is it a router+modem?
You are creating a VPN tunnel back to your home network so all traffic comes from your home network. This can take the place of other VPN software like "Private Internet Access", "VPN Unlimited", "NordVPN" etc on a mobile device. It can protect your data when connected to a hotspot at a public place. Further, it can give you access to stuff based on your home location instead of your current location with the device. This can come in handy if you travel out of the country often and want to access streaming services etc that are blocked in the geographical area you are currently at. Just a couple possibilities, not given as a complete list.
I've been having the same issues lately.
I wish I would have seen this before. I was happy with the speeds from my Optimum router (540/57, I pay for 500/50) it was pretty consistent as long as I was within 50 or so feet of the router. I switched to the amplifi HD gamers edition mesh because I put up outdoor cameras and they were too far. Anyway since the switch I have only been having issues. It works great for the cameras and I never expected fast speeds out there and I am really happy with the 85-150 that I get there. However the issues start when I am right next to the router.
The router is on my desk and a wired connection gets me the full speed (over 500/50) however wireless can fluctuate between 150 and 400 randomly (I could not get over 420 on a wireless connection so far). But what I found to be even worse is that sometimes I can sit at my desk and I notice that my phone is going real slow (like 15-35mbps) and when I check in the app I see that I'm connected to a mesh point that is a 100 ft away even though I'm 5 feet from the main router.
This issue gets even more confounded when I see that my ring doorbell is slow and I check it and it is connected to the main router 65ft away instead of the nearest mesh point about 25ft away. I spoke to Myra from tech support and sent many support info files and they told me to change the bands and turn on and off different settings including "Band Steering" and "Router Steering" among many others but it doesn't seem to change anything.
I am not very tech savvy but I really like fast internet and I would do anything to fix this, if any of you have any ideas I would be happy to try them.
This is a wired test, https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/5984165601
And, This is a wireless test from about 7 feet from the router, https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/5985047205
Don't mind the upload speed I have a large file uploading now and it's using half.
Just updated.
The dns adblocker is a black box. Compared to pihole, the onboard blocker:
But it is a great start for network ad blocking without being over zealous!
Also, the upcoming pihole 5.0 also allows per client blocking, and deep name inspection. That last one as I understand stops sites from serving ads that pretend to be from the sites own domain (but at the cost of speed).

Cox speed test 171d (my ISP)
AmpliFi Performance app 164d
150Mb when plugged into Instant Router. It's about the same results on my win10 desktop or my android phone with an ethernet adaptor (not wifi)
MB8600 DOCSIS 3.1 cable modem.
If I plug my phone directly into the cable modem via usb3 to ethernet, I get +850d so I know the ISP to the cable modem is within spec. The cable modem can output +800Mb speeds. It's not the cables... It shows a gigabit connection on the cable modem ethernet port to the instant router.
I'm pretty sure it's your ISP or the hardware that is BEFORE the Amplifi router that is faulty, not the Amplifi device, this are my results with the HD version.

Understand that a real cable tester is very expensive (entry level is something like Fluk MicroScanner and it goes up crazy from there) but even one of those cheepo low cost cable testers will cover the basic wiring issues -shorts, opens, crossover, and even estimated distance (not accurate) to the error. If nothing else something to have so you can catch the major cable issues yourself for low cost. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08334R9KP works well for a quick check. There are others around that price point, they all are similar and not professional level tools.
I'm on whatever is current, non beta.
I don't have the need for an additional node. Also, the speedtest on the Amplifi app is crap. speedtest.net and fast.com are both above 600 on wifi.
If DNS testing and benchmarking is desired, check out DNS Bench. It’s free and without ads. Hook up a PC directly to your ONT or Cable Modem and run the test. It will tell you if your default DNS is ok or if some public free ones might be faster.
Supposedly, AMPLIFI is just reskinning OpenWrt. (https://www.reddit.com/r/Ubiquiti/comments/8e0w38/comment/dxrofaz)
OpenWrt has support for wireless vlans. (https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/vlan/switch_configuration)
Haven’t looked to see if that’s being implemented, but it looks like it could be.
not sure that amplifi has any means of doing this. what you are trying to achieve is fairly simple though. what type of device? computer? smart home device? look into lansweeper (there is a free version that covers up to 100 devices)
Speed test from the Amplifi app has always given me low speed results similar to your screenshot. My desktop is hardwired to ethernet. When I use other websites like Fast.com on my desktop, I get anywhere from 400-700 Mbps speeds. I have a gigabit connection. Wifi, if I am connected to the mesh points, I get 100-180 Mbps. On rare occasions, If I am close to the main router, wifi gets me 200ish Mbps speeds.
Even if I can make another and sell it to you, you still need to run wires through wall to make it look good, which is the hardest part. To make the mount you need these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08HYKYV62 , https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078SZL2VL , metal cutting saw, full face mask, gloves, clamps…
Picked up this mount and then used an angle grinder to widen the ring to accommodate the Alien.

One thing I did on a home where the coax served the modem and set top boxes was buy some 50ohm coax caps and place them on all unused coax terminations. If you have a coax splitter before the modem make sure it is top quality and if possible grounded. And take a wrench and snug all coax connections. All this is to suppress transient signals. The coax is a kind of antenna and with no resister caps you can get interference. Also look for a bad termination on the cable end and repair as needed. It was incredible the difference doing that made to my network. In the new house with CAT 6 the only coax used is from the spectrum termination to the modem.

Hope this helps.
Don't do this. Don't share and don't get on someone else's network. Not only would it leave you vulnerable to whatever network you get on, but it could cause that network to be vulnerable.
If you are going to do this, make sure you know personally the person on the other end and they know you. Otherwise, use a paid VPN service, and you can accomplish the same thing. I would recommend ProtonVPN.
But connecting to an unknown Lan is a very bad idea.
There are now AX210 laptop 6e cards available.
Any routers yet though?
You should be able to buy the US alien and just get a European 2 prong power cord for it. The power supply is internal and rated 100-240V.
This is the type of cord it comes with: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JB7ZU5M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_GU1VFbTEHRJ45

Thank you for your reply. I think I have a spot that I could put another router in hardwired as a backhaul point. Does it matter where that's placed? Would I use another Amplifi HD router like this one?
No, I have it running on one of the little "firewall appliance" computers you can get from Amazon.
https://www.amazon.com/Firewall-Appliance-Gigabit-Celeron-AES-NI/dp/B07G9NHRGQ/ is an example.
I was also a little worried about all the options in pfsense but if you take it slow and google/search/use the pfsense reddit you can get a lot done. My pfsense tip is to not setup blocking in Snort (the intrusion detection system) until you're sure what all the rules cover. I made it so my Nest cameras stopped being able to talk to Google on accident and took a while to find what rule was causing that.
You're correct. Was thinking Mullvad based on what the website "That One Privacy Guy" shows, but I'm looking at others as well. It's for OUTGOING traffic from my home network, not to access my network remotely. Thanks for the help!
I should specify that I was looking for VPN client functionality. I have a Private Internet Access VPN that I would like to use to encrypt all the traffic coming off my network. I don’t trust my ISP not to harvest my data.

Yes there is a bridge mode option.
