Gday
If the laptop happens to run Win7/8/10 .
Then I recommend to check out SPEEDFAN ,
an freeware app to control the CPU and GPU fan speed - http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php . Im yet to find a program that offers the SAME functionally on Linux platform
One option might be flashing the bios and controlling the fan via BIOS
or since the battery is dead , backup data from the 5400RPM 2.5" drive and look into an desktop ITX/SFF/mATX PC
There used to a a project called pdfedit but that does not seem to be maintained any more. Which is s shame as it was really but far the most detailed editor for pdfs, though the interface was clunky a little.
It is a pity GNOME foundation or someone could not take up development of it. It is GPL so...
Great List!
Another one I use on Win computers is 'Create Synchronicity'
http://synchronicity.sourceforge.net/
Opensource, very light on resources/download. Works well and I have used it with USB removable media even Network drives. scheduling built in and if you set it up it will even email you when a backup executes & completes!
Unfortunately the Linux version is beta.
Gday
I gave this a go it works like a slow POS
Honestly for the COST of this program you WILL be better off with a hardware greenscreen solution eg If your in USA , USD$30 - https://www.amazon.com/LimoStudio-Chromakey-Backdrop-Background-AGG1777/dp/B017WNJS3M/
