You're right. Do you know what could be the issue with ProtonVPN? Worked fine the days and weeks before and now suddenly not anymore.
What are you using? Temporarily, to test it, installed AtlasVPN but it is limited to 5GB so I'd be open to any suggestions towards a good and free VPN. I will miss Proton, tough.
I use "Simple Audiobook Player" an Android app. You can speed up the playback too, but only on the full version. The free version remembers your last played position, even if you start another book, then go back, it'll remember your last played position.
Here's a link
Big fan of Voice, a free open source audiobook player. It has a very in-depth audio tuning system that makes books much easier to hear as it runs through a test of your hearing to tune the audio to your ears and the equipment you are listening on. Simplistic design also makes it a stress-free app.
I connect thru Brave, there is a private window with Tor option. Magnets don't work, but you can either sign in to download the torrent or use the info hash. Right now I'm using the .fi address.
I'm using NordVPN, no problems.
Use a server like plex or emby on your mac and an app like symfonium on your phone. Symfonium will sync your progress back and forth between your devices.
I personally use Voice Audiobook player, It started off as Mort audiobook player and is really good. Has support for bookmarks as well as multiple customizations you can make. I have it set to that it rewinds a full minute each time it gets paused.

Interesting - it worked fine for me when I connected directly from the UK, but didn't work when I connected through 2 different NordVPN servers in UK and Europe. Other sites were working fine through the VPN
