You could tap from a fuse box on passenger side. Cable is going to that place with small effort. Amazon has compatible fuse adapters to do that. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TBRM45F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_R9KbGb6PQYTET
I’ve got a 2018 X5 and had the same feeling of surprise-nowhere to put my phone!! Ended up grabbing this: https://www.amazon.ca/WeatherTech-CupFone-Universal-Adjustable-Portable/dp/B07KY1XKRQ/ref=asc_df_B07KY1XKRQ/?tag=googlemobshop-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=341829576925&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=17734434633945394174&hvpone=&hvpt...
so far so good.
I've been using a magnetic air vent clip by Humixx for about 3 yrs now & it's really good, rarely slips off even on large bumps. I keep it to the left of the steering wheel but it can go on any vent. I prefer this one because it's not permanent & can go form car to car if needed & it's not something that you have to adhere to the dash. My dash is all leather & carbon fiber so def don't want glue or stickers & a suction cup wouldn't work.
New nav DVD (which is what the DVD is for, only for reading maps), all that does is update the maps themselves. There will be no change in the apps/interface/any of that. Carplay etc? Absolutely not, you're about 10 years too old for that with a 2008. They sell retrofit kits that essentially add an android auto head-unit on top of your existing one that you can press a button and swap over to. Depending on whether you have the CIC or CCC nav (post a picture of your nav screen), it may require a new screen as well. $500-1000

Backup camera - besides checking settings like someone else mentioned, take a look at the camera lens. Could be cloudy/scratched just like the headlights. Upgrading the camera with your existing head unit is unlikely. If you did go the android auto route and add one of those boxes, they often are set up to allow additional aftermarket camera connections.
so I have an X5 and bought some this cleaning Gel which did there trick for me. I had very similar issue and this fixed it.
The fill plug on the diff is easy access, but pretty hard to get fluid into. I got one of these years ago and I've used it for so many jobs, I don't know how I lived without it.

No longer available, but you get the idea. Can probably make your own even cheaper with a visit to the farm store and the hardware store.
Same scenario too. I was bummed about the charger, my neighbors 2020 X5 has it. I didn’t know it was the chip shortage.
And I didn’t know the seat backs were once automated :(
So I bought this SMALL but strong holder. I put it in the vent to the left of the BMW’s screen. It’s a very low profile and not gaudy…. With an iPhone cable that runs from the center console.
It’s super fast, needs only one hand put my phone in, and I only ever plug it in if my trip is long enough.

I have the same vehicle and I love it! This is the level 2 charger that I purchased and I couldn’t be happier with it.

Sure. You lower the front with hardware and the rear with coding or adjustable ride height links. These fit a Porsche but may fit yours?

I have two extra if you want them.
Thank you for your reply and idea.
It's tempting to use that overhead light cluster as it surely will have full time battery power because those overhead lights work whether the car is on or not. However, the hard-wire kit that I got from VIOFO (link below) has about 10 feet of cable before it splits out with the 3 individual wires. Therefore, finding a power source somewhere under the dash or under the center console would be preferable, as I don't want to do an ugly splice job on the cable right near where it connects to the dash cam.
