Congratulations! The coat is more straight when they are a puppy then becomes wavier after 6 months to a year (2nd coat). I will say my Bernedoodle does a little shedding, but not much at all...the stray hair here and there. Make sure you brush him regularly so he doesn't get knots and then he would have to be groomed very very short to remove them. Get a 36" crate with a divider to shrink the size as he is a puppy. Only enough room to turn around and no more. Stick to a schedule! 3 feedings a day until about 6 months, then 2 a day. Only give water with meals until 6 months or you will have accidents. I highly recommend this book. https://www.amazon.com/dp/1492249661/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_DwuTFbXPB663D
I was just reading that apparently the skin tests are more accurate. I am also considering the DNA allergy test kit from the pet store. https://www.chewy.com/dna-my-dog-allergy-testing-dogs/dp/205061
I got one for my dood as well but it slides onto the collar so he can’t chew on it. Here’s the link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B097RBGHPY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_1M62XQRAY77FVD6G1616?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
We use the Chris Christensen slicker brush from Amazon. It's a little pricey for a brush but well worth it in our eyes. We have the full and mini size brush and they do an amazing job with our F1B.

I washed mine in the tub with a mild, hypoallergenic shampoo until he was big enough to jump out. He gets groomed every 6 weeks with one bath in between that he gets at daycare. Doodles have extremely sensitive skin, so it's important to bathe them infrequently.

This one was recommended from someone at r/puppy101: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07Y3RV1KK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_laraGbCS6WW24) If you don’t subscribe to that, you should. It was right around your pups age that I subscribed after crying cause I thought my dog hated me. Found it the next day and learned about the puppy blues and realized I had em hard. Made me feel so much less pathetic, haha. There’s a lot of great advice and tips. You could ask your above question there and get a TON of great advice. Highly highly recommend for a fellow first dog owner
Hell figure it out for sure, it took my older boy till he was about 9 months to get the drill. My lil dude is like 4 months now and I’m right there with you on the potty training. I will tell you, my girlfriend and I splurged on this and it has been well with the money (especially considering how many paper towels we wasted on carpet accidents)

I started with a cheaper option cause I wasn’t sure if she would chew it apart or ever interact with it. She digs in it sometimes but it’s been a month or so and it’s in good shape and she loves it
Our groomer recommended this and it has really helped a lot!!! She explained to us that the berner part of the coat can get stuck under the poodle coat, and it will collect and was making him extra hot in the summer this past year. It’s amazing what it will pull out 😂

For a harness, I'd suggest something light with minimal coverage. I've had a couple of the more "full" harnesses like the kong, and they are great but cause a lot of extra fur matting. Something more like this: https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0028QC9GM/ref=as_li_ss_tl?keywords=easy+walk+dog+harness&ie=UTF8&sr=8-9&linkCode=gs2&linkId=8761bc334e088338101b77bfc4506302&tag=amerkennclu0f-20
He's going to grow really really fast, so for sweaters etc, get the cheapest ones you can for now. Maybe go 2nd hand if you can. He'll outgrow every one you get him for the next 8-12 months. A blanket-style that drapes over and attaches with an adjustable strap is probably your best bet. By this time next year you'll probably find that you don't need a jacket.
Have fun, and good luck!
Our girl will be about that size, maybe a bit smaller. We got an XL with 2 doors and a divider. The nice thing is that dog crates seem to sell well 2nd hand, so we decided that worst-case she is on the 90lb end we can always get another at that time and sell the current one.
Edit: I don’t know where you live, but this is what we got Precision Dog Crate
Good luck. I paid the extra for a laparoscopic spay because I knew there was no way I could keep my pup calm for 10 days after.
Re: the flirt pole, my pup chewed thru the rope on the first one (right above where the toy was - partly my fault for letting her). I replaced it with this one which I've been happier with, and I also havethis over the rope so it basically acts as a shield.
Flirt pole is amazing for burning off energy. I give my dog a treat when I put it away, so she now tells me she's done by walking over to wear the treat is, which was an unintentional (but very useful) training.
I do a lazy version of "find it"/scatter feeding, and just toss a handful of small treats into the room and make her hunt for them. (I try to get a decent amount into her toy bucket so she has to dig for them).
If you can get some food dispensing toys those are also great for getting them mental work. I like the Kong Wobbler (I put a tenis ball in to slow down the food coming out - I've also heard just crupled up paper), and the Omega Tricky Treat.
My pup also love the Babble Balls when I first got them (she's kinda over them now, but it took months and if I got a new one she might be interested). She would chase after it for so long. The sounds are frankly, rather annoying, but it was so entertaining and she was so engaged that it was worth it.
Try different combs and brushes. Ours tolerates one better than any of the others we tried. Here's what we use and I love it.
Coastal Pet Safari Dog Single Row Undercoat Rake - Undercoat Brush for Dogs with Medium and Long Hair - Dog Detangler Comb and Dematting Brush - Single Row
I finally broke down and got a grooming table and it helps so much. She's at the right height, and the loop holds her in place so she can't really run away (I see her eye the floor, but she's just a bit more resigned on the table).
I also use a frozen lickmat filled with some softened kibble and PB (frozen so it last a lot longer). With the table I don't need it as much, but she'll pretty much let me do anything if she's occupied by that.
I'm still trying out new products looking for something I would call a favorite. This one is my baseline that I always have around. It works well, especially if you let it sit for 3-5 minutes before rinsing out and it's economical.
He’s gorgeous! I hope everything goes well for you.
If you want (utterly unsolicited lol) recommendations for toys, the flirt stick by Outward Hound is fantastic: https://www.amazon.com/Outward-Hound-Tail-Teaser-Flirt/dp/B0042I5G2I/ref=sr_1_8?crid=2G0TSDWMU4GCN&keywords=flirt+stick+dog&qid=1667314750&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjY3IiwicXNhIjoiMi44NyIsInFzcCI6IjIuNzcifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=flirt+stick+d%2Caps%...

Several other redditors suggested both to me back in July and they are both still intact and used daily despite our mini bernedoodle, Loki’s, rough treatment of them.
Also, if you you decide you’d like to know your pup’s genetic heritage (and any potential genetic mutations that may impact his future health or growth) I highly recommend Embark DNA & Health testing. We used it on Loki, and it was very cool to see not only his genetic profile, but that of his forebears. We can also see his relatives that have been tested through the service!
I bought grooming clippers because the plan was to just trim the pads of his feet, but I boarded him for 17 days and when I came back, his hair was at least 4 inches long. I bought the clippers below and cut him with the 21 mm guard with it set on 2.0, whatever that means. Lol. It cut through his hair like butter.
Dog Clippers, USB Rechargeable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09TH154LS?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I buy my collars on etsy - leather with the buckle engraved with his name and my phone number. I also have an apple airtag attached to it in case he gets loose, and he’s microchipped too. I don’t care for breakaway collars but I DO support quick release collars, and most dog daycare/boarding places will require you to have a quick release collar as well as relevant vaccines.
This is the last collar I got him, I like it a lot: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1108400795/leather-dog-collar-personalized-engraved?ref=share_v4_lx
This is the airtag holder I have, I flipped it so the rubber backing sticks outward preventing the airtag from getting dinged or taking damage or getting wet: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09M6N6DJ9?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
We just bought this one for Loki: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074XM8RSF/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It’s quite a bit larger than I expected and has a nice heft and sturdy feel.
I got the recommendation for this, and many other supplies here: https://www.blueskyedoodles.com/some-of-my-favorite-things-for-a-new-puppy
I got it on Amazon! Here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09QSV2BX3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
There are other fish, too. I almost got the goldfish, but thought the shark more apt considering we live in Florida lol.
If you type in “interactive fish dog toy” there’s a bunch of different ones.
My dog basically likes chicken or beef. No duck, goat, fish, so many things. Does like dried meats (as long as they are chicken or beef parts, like liver). And American cheese (but not string cheese). Odd.
This is a blow dryer I have and like:
My dog will "sit" for this, but at least 1-2 feet away. She does not seem to mind the sound, but does not like the wind that much. It's quite powerful on the lowest setting, and I can't use any of the tips (these just make the wind more powerful).
I have trimmers saved that others have recommended, but I've not tried them to recommend them.
I use a vibrating (no shock) and beeping collar too. Not all the time (l take it off on walks etc). Mine is from Amazon Bark Collar No Shock Bark Collar... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083J4YJFL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

I think my girl has a similar coat. This works really well. I also finger comb while we are cuddling which is, well, all the time lol
cowboy magic is a leave in conditioner that has worked wonders for mine. Best to put it on when he’s fresh out of the bath and still wet, otherwise it just gets on the top coat
Frisco makes a water resistant car hammock. It works great and is machine washable.
We do keep him on the shorter side since he gets matted pretty easily. He’s a dog who runs around a lot at his daycare, so maybe that’s a factor, too? Lemme see if I can put together a few pics so of him so you can see the lengths of hair he tends to have.
From my experience, if you want to go longer, it’s definitely worth getting a dematting rake and get comfortable using it, because you do have to put a bit of force into it if there are mats.
One other thing I just thought of, and seems a bit counterintuitive given the advice on the detangler, is to make sure when you are doing baths, also ensuring you are getting ALL the shampoo out. Early on when we were washing him a good amount ourselves, we didn’t realize just how long we had to rinse him until a friend pointed out that we might be seeing matting due to soap residue.
What we use for our Bernedoodle with wavy hair. Works great. Ended up buying two of them so we can cut his hair faster between two people. Perfect for summer time to keep it short with the heat. Battery last long enough to cut him in one seating.

I’m in the same situation, I have a F1b Standard coming home in 3 weeks! I decided to get a crate for the size that she will be when she’s fully grown and it has a divider so I can keep it closed to her current size until she’s fully grown. They have them on Chewy. https://www.chewy.com/midwest-icrate-double-door/dp/177328
I bought this: Dexas MudBuster Portable Dog Paw... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N0EDVXO?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share which works really well when i can get him to sit long enough for it, and that generally just requires treats! beautiful girl btw!
:) Glad to see this one is a good snuffle mat, I have it as well, and yeah, it barely occupies him for 5 minutes now.
I'll take a look at the holder (got a bunch of bully sticks too). The XL works? You didn't get the XXL?
For cheese, that doesn't upset his stomach? I seem to notice some cheeses bother his GI a bit.
Will take a look at the dog chew.
Thanks :) I really appreciate the reply
I’d probably look for something like this. That way when they aren’t allowed to be around dogs/people you can still socialize them.
I use Earthbath oatmeal and aloe shampoo and conditioner. It is gently formulated to prevent skin irritation and restore the skins moisture. It’s free of parabens, dyes, sulfates, synthetic fragrances, soaps, and alcohol. My pup smells wonderful after his baths and his coat feels and looks amazing!
Earthbath Oatmeal & Aloe Shampoo & Conditioner Pet Grooming Set - Itchy, Dry Skin Relief, Made in USA - Vanilla & Almond, 16 oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0733Q6FZS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_EMMQ436KPWMXPPN7022P?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
My breeder recommended Earthbath oatmeal and aloe shampoo and conditioner. It’s gentle enough for puppies starting at 6 weeks old and doesn’t contain parabens, dyes, sulfates and alcohol. Ingredients are great and my pup smells wonderful after his baths.
We use Virbac C.E.T. Enzymatic Poultry Flavor Dog & Cat Toothpaste. Our pup likes the flavor and it's safe to swallow. The vet told us to brush at least twice a week.
Exact same size Bern I have. We bought the 42" with divider and while it's fine now at 14 months, I think the 36" would be fine as well. I will say he has enough room to be comfortable but not so much room that he can pee in a corner and avoid it.
Hi Astartledbox, he is only 7 months old so that may be just the puppy fur. He is a big boy.
That being said, deeply behind his fur are some spots of matting. We control this by brushing, and using a dematting tool every 2 days. Thats basically an hour or two of just sitting down and brushing him. At first he was not so fond of the routine beause there were times where i pulled too hard on the fur. But he got used to it and I became extremely careful not to pull too hard.

Dog Brush - Coastal Li'l Pals Slicker Purple and Green Brush for Dogs, Extra Small (cant find a link)
TLDR - Brush and dematting every 2 days.
We got the puppy one. Apparently it's the right softness on their little teeth. We also purchased this one that our breeder recommended. It's quite a bit cheaper and the reviews we very good! Chilly Penguin I always keep one ready to go in the freezer
For the car ride home we didn't use a crate because we didn't want her first experience with the crate to be a scary one. I just sat in the back seat with her while my husband drove. For vet visits, we used a hard-sided carrier. It's kind of bulky and not easy to carry, but it did the trick when she was little.
This is the one we used for our pup, he recently grew out of it but we liked it. It has clips for top and bottom, I also liked that you could lock the one clip so there isn't a chance of it coming undone.

Hi! Our Bernedoodle really likes the Nina otosson puzzles. These doodles are so smart so she got the hang of the level 3 puzzles super fast!!! But her all time favorite is probably this toy:
https://www.chewy.com/planet-dog-orbee-tuff-snoop-treat/dp/103061
It’s so simple but she loves it. She’s recovering from tearing her ACL so we can’t do a ton of exercise, and she requests this toy several times a day 😂 (she uses the fluent pet communication buttons and we call it her “squishy toy” lol)
Also, when she was younger we froze stuff in the kong and that was awesome for keeping her occupied (plain yogurt, cottage cheese, pumpkin, etc). We did that till she was prob 8 months old.
Good luck!!!
My MIL’s dog is allergic to red meats so he is on this vegetarian kibble.
if its after a bath I usually crank mine up kinda high at first you can put cotton balls in their ears or a [happy hoodie]( https://www.amazon.ca/Happy-Hoodie-Black-contains-large/dp/B00AA3L3RQ) to cut noise and put the round nozzle or the flat attachment on and blast excess water out of the coat while they are in the tub then give a towel dry. After I use my slicker to go over them in sections like back leg /side of body give a bit of a brush out then go over it with the dryer / heat and thoroughly dry the coat all the way through to fluff the coat after you can just use the hose no attachments and go through the coat with your metal comb, and its pretty common the really fluffy look only last like a day or so and hair will start to kink back up pretty quick.
without a blowdrier usually when you brush at home your not going to get that just fresh blowdry look but a good slicker CC is great or transgroom tuffer than tangles is also nice, and metal greyhound comb to line brush. If you invest in a drier shelandy on amazons a great price you can give the coat a spritz of water /little conditioner mixed in then use the blowdrier and they should look nice and fluffy
Could be allergies like the other folks are saying but our dood had runny poops and would puke every few days until he finally stopped eating as much stuff outside (dirt, soil, grass, sticks, etc).
He was probably 6-8 months old when he started to grow out of it through constant redirection. Bring treats on every walk and reward for dropping or leaving things Yogi shouldn’t be eating.
If you live in a cold area check what kind of snow and ice preventing salt is being used. Our guy was getting sick because he would eat the grass that had some sidewalk salt in it that was not pet friendly. We use the stuff linked below and he hasn’t had any problems.
Hope this helps! Promise it’ll get better. :)
It’s actually a backseat harness and I have one of those back seat covers that keep the puppies from being able to get in the front or scratching the doors. Dog Seat Cover
In the car we use a pet seatbelt (similar to this one) and her harness. This allows us to have luggage etc in the back.
I got my doodle this elevated cooling mat. She loves it. She eats her snacks on it and takes her naps on it.
Oh, that was my pup when he was rehomed to us at 1yo. I tried inexpensive alternatives, but ultimately a slicker brush was my best investment. Everything I read recommended Chris Christensen brand - not the cheapest but saves on grooming.
I also use a steel comb after I brush to check if there are any knots I missed.
I generally brush everyday (can even break it up across the day if it’s too much at once), less often in the summer as I keep his coat short. Pay extra attention to “hot spots” where there’s more friction (underarm areas, base of tail, etc), as well as cheeks and base of ears.

Oh my gosh this is my life!!! I thought this has to be excessive but I showed my vet and she said it’s normal. I bought these wipes on Amazon and they work pretty good.
I add this to my two bernadoodle’s food and they have great firm poop. Big quality improvement from before we started using it. It is chicken based though, so if yours does have an allergy then probably not for you.

My 3 mo old puppy is obsessed with the Whimzees Brushzees. A co-worker got me one as a gift and he went crazy for it. You can buy them individually at PetCo or PetSmart. They are shaped like a bone with a tooth on the end. I wanted to buy a bulk bag but the reviews on Amazon indicated they were old/stale so I'll stick to buying individually I guess. It occupies my puppy for a solid 20 minutes and doesn't break off into pieces, at least not the two he's had so far.
Yeah, it sucks. Apparently the mats can cause hot-spots, which would be really uncomfortable. We love our fluffy girl too, and she gets a bit embarassed being shaved down, so we only do it for heat reasons in the summer if we can keep her coat in good condition the rest of the year.
This is the exact rake I use: https://www.amazon.ca/FURminator-Grooming-Rake-Updated-Model/dp/B07NGM3QRN/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=furminator+rake&qid=1615403988&s=pet-supplies&sr=1-4
For everyday brushing I like a pin brush (I have a Chris Christensen big pin brush, my dog is a big monster though) - it doesn't hurt her skin and works fairly well. A straight comb is a really important tool as well for checking for mats.
I'd also get a set of curved, blunt-tipped shears (small ones) for trimming face/paws. Even if you take your dog to the groomer you'll want to tidy those areas between visits. They're good for cutting out tough mats too.
If your bernedoodle is double-coated then an undercoat rake is good to have during seasonal coat changes.
I like the double-sided ones with curved "blades" like this: https://www.amazon.com/Pet-Grooming-Tool-Undercoat-Dematting/dp/B01EZ7UOCM/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=undercoat+rake&qid=1607083387&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFMTlROUzFSWVhEQUUmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA1...
I found it very hard to find a harness that fit my bernie as her neck dimensions were always 1 size smaller than her chest. I ended up using this 3 in 1 harness as it was decently adjustable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0725KKX68/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_meupgj1JPwfXO
But id measure your dog first. Many pet shops allow you to take your dogs in, so id take yours in and try out some harnesses in store.
Benebone FTW. Both of our dogs (2yr and 4mos) love them and it’s kept them from chewing on furniture and other things they shouldn’t chew on.
We have one of the ruffwear frisbee rings that our pup is OBSESSED with. He sees us get it out and he whines as he is running to the door because he is so excited to play 😂 However, we don’t leave it out, it’s only for actual playtime then it gets put away. Toys that we leave out (we’ve tried a lot) are the ruff wear cones, kongs, these:
Chew King Supreme Fetch Balls Extremely Durable Natural Dog Toy Ball, Fetch Toy Collection, Fits Ball Launcher https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0795VCQLK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_444wFbF75Y35J
and antler chews. We don’t leave anything in his crate while we’re gone except for the kongs.
I get the drain of buying toy after you! Oakley loves the plush animals, but unfortunately he just eats them 🤷🏻♀️
Get a prong training collar, it immediately corrected any issues my pup had with pulling something just like this:https://www.amazon.com/Supet-Training-Adjustable-Ultra-Plus-Plating/dp/B07MXKP18X/ref=sr_1_2_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=prong+collar&qid=1597194904&s=pet-supplies&sr=1-2-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUFUSDhCUDRFMjdD...
We used a more comfortable inflatable collar as opposed to a plastic cone and I think it made a big difference. Good luck!

I bought a kurgo harness in a size small for my mini. This is the link on Amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/Kurgo-Harness-Walking-Training-Included/dp/B07VCFXYFB?th=1
I also have the same length leashes. I use the 6ft in the house and the 20ft outside for potty training and leash training.
Hey everyone!! See that hair? Taken off my just de-shedded 2 weeks ago at the groomer pup 🤣 I pulled that in 10 minutes and could have kept going for an hour if he let me. Our groomer spent the majority of his last visit de-shedding but didn't have to shave him down, so just cut him shorter. I've heard you don't want to cut down bernedoodles too short, but all that berner hair gets stuck under their poodle coat. So, she recommended the Andis grooming deshedding tool. And man, this baby works! Oakley get so hot, but he was running around like a lunatic in the yard last night after this, so I can tell he feels so much better. He didn't love the tool at first, but after a few minutes he seemed to not mind at all. Here is the amazon link https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00O0WOMCQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Xdp2Eb6F4DRV4 Just wanted to share with you all because I think it's really going to help with the heat!
Poop bags and some refills. We have a retractable leash which is helpful for going outside for potty or short bursts of zombies (we don't have a fenced in yard) then a leash that isn't retractable which is helpful for teaching how to walk on a leash properly leash (like this one. We really enjoyed it because it has a ring where I can hook the water bottle and poop bags) The collapse bowls were helpful too if you take them anywhere and need to bring food. We ended up getting a harness off Amazon too for our girl for hikes which is super helpful. Lots of pet wipes! They are a savior for small mud/getting dirty without having to bathe them constantly. Puppy shampoo too. We went with hypoallergenic.
