My mother in law got them for the boys for Christmas! Here’s the link (i’m buying more in another color- these are the first sweaters I’ve found that fit the weenies proportionately)
Amazon : https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08GL82L6P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
We got Mollie a size 4. She's 10 lbs.
My dachshunds love laying with each other so maybe a snuggle puppy? for her to cuddle up against. It has a heartbeat sound device and pet safe disposable heating pads that you put inside of it. The amazon reviews have a bunch of examples of people using it for their pets including the sad/lonely pups.
I also used to share your opinion of getting a short hair. I've been looking after a long hair now for 6 months and I'm convinced that when I come to get my own it will be a long hair now.
I've seen so many short haired that seem nervous and neurotic and ill tempered. It might have have something to do with good breeding but over here in the UK I think the long haired have stronger lineage and are not so much part of the puppy farm culture.
Also, I think long haired have nicer faces and are more handsome. My preference is an English cream or a red long hair. Look at this beauty....

I got it after going back and forth. My little girl used to nervously lay on the passenger seat, and then try to jump over to me driving. When I got it, it was $90 new. (It looks like the price has gone down!) I thought it was a lot, but it is SO worth it. (Honestly, for the safety and comfort of my little girl, nothing is too expensive.) The seatbelt goes through holes on either side at the bottom and clips in, so it is secure. This is NOT going anywhere. I also put little blankets in it as well. My dachshund mix is 14lbs plus or minus a few oz, and fits perfectly. She mostly lays down in it. We use it for daily errands, as well as our most recent move across the country from California to Kansas. She just chilled in her car seat the entire time. I recommend it over and over and over! (It also comes totally assembled, in a giant box.)
I'm only about a month and a half in but since it seems you've been struggling with the crate training part, the Smart Pet Love Puppy made it SO MUCH EASIER. She even immediately started sleeping through the night. The prices on Amazon fluctuate but I'd spend even more on this again if I had to. The heartbeat calms her down and even now I don't turn it on and it's still her favorite toy.
It also helped when I got her the smallest crate at Petco—a cat sized one. Half of it is filled up with her Smart Puppy and a Snuggie, so she has never once had an accident in her crate.
Once keeping her in the crate became easy, it was easier to potty train. That's all I have to add to what VFR800Rider had to say.
She is around 11 pounds and I got the small. My other one Trotsky is around 25 and i for the medium. Fits perfectly for both. https://imgur.com/a/s6zbuYQ

If he’s fully vaccinated maybe you can see if other neighbors will take turns walking the dogs together? That way he’s socialized with other dogs and not just humans. I mean, of course only do this with people you really trust -I’m constantly paranoid somebody will steal my dog, but that’s just me.
Also other people mentioned protecting the spine - if you can get a ramp like this for the couch or bed (wherever you will allow the cutie to go) then it will help with potential spine issues :)
A couple of thoughts: try a long training lead; take him to a place other than just outside the home to start your walk.

Hi I just recently had this issue myself (he can escape a cone, then learned how to escape his onesie). I bought a suit off of Amazon (if you’re ok purchasing from Amazon) that has managed to stay on. You can find it here
We got one on amazon that works awesome for my giant 32 pound standard. It's called a Geega Pet harness and we bought a medium. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B79M3AW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apis_1489452590403
Good luck!
honestly, I just was with our pup 24/7. I took her out every few hours (more time in between the older she got) even if she didn't pee. when inside, instead of using typical potty pads, I got a fake grass mat for her to use. keeping that same grass texture even if she needed to go and wouldn't/couldn't signal. i also used that in her crate when we were crate training her at night.
these days though, we've given her free use of the pet door to our backyard and that has solved all of our pretty minimal issues. it's great if you've got a yard and can do it, but if not, I recommend something that's not a cloth pad to pee on.
This one: Eukanuba Small Breed Puppy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QSORLO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_gaTtFbZ4MWVR6
The pup loves it and it was always in the top three of recommend food lists for dachshunds when I did my research.
This works for us

I walk mine on a leash and don't let her root around in the mud too much. (Live in a city.) We do still have to towel her off a bit, but that is true of all dogs.
I’ve been there, I’m glad he’s feeling better! These are the only brand toys we buy now, they’re the only ones that mine can’t destroy and we’ve tried many indestructible ones. They have them at Marshall’s and HomeGoods
I am on the same hunt as you. The issue I have run into for the 3 different pairs I have tried is the height of the boots. They are too tall, I can't get them to go up as high as they should so they are all the way on. Maybe our mini is extra short?
However, I found one pair that work okay for now that I will link below. They are not particularly warm, but we use them to keep his feet from becoming wet in the snow. We don't get heavy snow where we are, so I am not sure how well they would hold up if the snow went high above the sole over the top of the foot.
Looking at his toys, I think he needs one of these. https://www.amazon.com/Rotisserie-Chicken-Super-Squeaker-Large-fabdog/dp/B07XQGK1WY It always makes me laugh when my dog plays with it. It's also got a big squeaker so it's easy for them.

I purchased this one recently and it has been my absolute favorite by far. The chest strap sits high like a collar, so it doesn't affect her ability to move her shoulders, and the waist strap sits far behind her legs, so it doesn't dig into her armpits. She hates clothes and harnesses, but she reacts the least to this one so far.

My dachshund refused to use pet stairs or traditional dog ramps because most are narrow and he would get scared if they shook/moved. We went through a lot of trial and error, and finally got his seal of approval on gymnastics wedges. They are not the most aesthetically pleasing solution, but are very sturdy, wide, nonslip, and padded.
We have something similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Gymnastic-Tumbling-Gymnastics-Exercise-Handle,Pink/dp/B0BC8R618M/ref=asc_df_B0BC8R618M/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=598347489797&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=16030288158562753142&hvpone=&hvptwo=&a...

Our puppy does the same thing, so we took the bowl away to prevent messes. We use a silicone mat and just place the kibble on it. I have this one linked below from Amazon and we run it through the dishwasher with no issues. They have various sizes and colors to chose from.
We suspect it's preference on his end because this was how he was fed before we brought him home. Some dogs, do like to hide their food if they don't eat it all, but ours doesn't do that.
Ended up being a chicken allergy for us. We feed our dogs wellness sweet potato and white fish now. It also keeps our dogs silky too. Here is an Amazon link:
The only toys to survive my girl (and she mowed through a number of 'indestructible' toys as well!) were rings. Not this brand, but they looked very similar, just in bright colors like magenta and purple, and grey. They were just standard pet store rings that I found while living in Belgium.
She would chew the living hell out of those rings after chasing them down when I threw one, and they'd be absolutely fine. They didn't even feel that strong to the touch, but somehow they were the only survivors. She loved those toys and so did I.
Our boy does that. He has two dog friends who live with him and he still does this. I think he just has a strong prey drive. He’s been like this since we got him and we got him at like 10 weeks old.
Toys like this are good for him. He tears out the squeaker, but after that, they’ve lasted a year or two.
Kongs do okay, but he still tears those up, too. Any tennis balls, etc. lacrosse balls last much longer, so that’s an option, too.
It sounds like she doesn't prefer hard toys yet.
There are many different types of "stuffingless" dog toys on the market. Some have squeakers & some have crinkling material inside. They're going to get torn up eventually but your dog will have fun destroying them. Just watch out for the squeakers & take them away once they're removed, they shouldn't chew on those.
I use a belly band for my boy dachs however, it is just an easy to use wide cumberbund, this could help maybe. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07JQVDH47/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_search\_asin\_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The first dachshund that I adopted was a longhair, but she had horrible flaky skin when I brought her home. I randomly bought her a bottle of Solid Gold Sea Meal, put her on a good quality dog food, and it she become a different dog. I don’t know if this will help your baby, but it’s worth a try. Solid Gold Sea Meal You can check the quality of your dog food at The Dog Food Advisor
We have one that folds out in to a crate. We use it when we’re travelling. Various ferries and trains require her to be in a bag so it’s a backpack so she can see what’s going on then we open it out if she still has to be contained when we’re out and about. She loves it. this one
She chooses to climb in to it any time we get it out.
This is what I use. Our vet has always given it to us.
It doesn't squeak but my 2 haven't destroyed it we've had it for about 3 months
just first link from amazon. I found mine on offerup for half the price
I use these for my dogs. They come in all sizes and colors and my dogs don’t slip them
Looks like her tongue is already longer than the cone length. I’d size up for the next on you get her, since the neck sizes are pretty adjustable.
Have you considered a soft cone similar to this?
There’s tons of different options for them, but my vet said for dachshunds, since they’re so long, a pillow cone might not be long enough to keep them from getting at their legs
When they're a puppy, you can't leave them for too long, but it's good for them to be left some.
General rule of thumb is that they should be able to wait about 1 hr for every month they are old between bathroom breaks. If you're going to leave a 4 month old dog by himself for 8 hours, you're going to have a mess.
But you can certainly kennel them, while you run out, or go have dinner, etc.
This is my favorite dog training book.
If you're going to travel, you just board it, or have a friend take care of it.
Don't let them get you worried. Get a dog!
There's a lot to training a dog. None of it is overly complicated, but it takes repetition.
This is my favorite dog training book.
Make sure he has other things to chew, instead of the furniture or you.
If you can, take him to a socialization / puppy class. That should help with some of the nipping.
You don't need to be rough with him to correct behavior. A simple, stern, "EH!!" does the trick to get the to stop. It's handy for all occasions. When that doesn't do the job, we find a squirt bottle effective.
For running out the door - you should be working on, Sit, Stay and Come commands, inside the house. Also, getting them to kennel on command is helpful. Ours have to go to their kennel before we open the door. Keeps them from getting out.

Also, go on walks. Lots of walks. They don't have to be far, but a tired puppy is a well behaved puppy.
My mini has had this problem multiple times. If I give him one scrap of people food, he has problems. My vet gave him a supplement that I put on his food. It helps to keep his stool bulky and kinda hard so his glands express each time he goes. It works. Here's the link:

My little guy would get very anxious in the metal crates and he hurt himself a couple of times on his snout by trying to squeeze it through the gaps. I had to purchase a different style crate to make him more comfortable and make sure he couldn't hurt himself. I found this one on Amazon and with a comfy dog bed and blanket he adjusted really well.
The door can be completely removed, which we do while we are at home, and reattach it when we leave. That way he is free to go in and out of his crate whenever he wants to.
There's a product I use that's oral drops. They're pretty good and easy to use. They're drops that you put on their gums. I get it from the vet but you can get it on amazon:

My only warning is that my other dog does not even notice the noise. I wonder if Frankie is sensitive to the sound because I briefly used this collar for his indoor barking (PetSafe Spray Bark Dog Collar, Includes Citronella and Unscented Spray Refills https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H3T4P2Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_3BG9BKC6JHA2F69W3E60 ).
The sound is very similar, but the collar is much closer to their face, so the spray definitely gets their attention. I also tried it on myself so I can promise there is no discomfort 😂 I didn’t use the collar for long because my pup adapted to our new home and the indoor barking pretty much stopped.
Regardless, the compressed air was a great tool for one dog, but not both 🤷♀️
It’s not super cheap, so I suggest starting with a small order. The 3 oz can lasts like 25 sprays (which was less than a week for me). I’ve switched to 5 oz. You can get much bigger, but since I need it on walks / at park, the small sizes are convenient.
Yes have a sling. I bought on Amazon after someone posted it here.

This is also just fun sometimes, too.
We got this one for the bed but it will also work for the couch if you have a big enough room. For the couch we got some foam steps because ours is quite low to the ground.

Our little guy is still going strong. His routine is as follows:
Morning Entyce orally in liquid form to keep appetite up (he’s not good motivated) Hydroxizine and Pepcid in pill form in a pill pocket
Food is a mix of * A measured amount of protein (he likes lean ground beef but lean ground chicken works too) and I believe for his weight it’s 2oz per day * A base mix: Dr. Harvey's Canine Health Miracle Dog Food, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001B185I6 * some olive oil * canned sweet potato in water that we mash up * kidney powder supplement: Dr. Harvey's Kidney Health Kidney... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076WVMRF4

Other people have said a Kong and I'll agree, but not solely peanut butter unless you just want to do it once in a while...it's high calorie for them and long backed babies need to watch their weight. I do a Kong but use pumpkin puree (100% pumpkin, not pie filling) and swirl just a little bit of PB in for the smell, and freeze it. It works like a charm, and the pumpkin helps their poops.
Also...treat dispensers or puzzles like these with tiny training treats or even plain Cheerios:

When you get your puppy often the breeder will give you a small bag of food the pup has been eating. Use this food wisely to transition your pup onto whatever new diet you are putting them on. We didn't do this properly and my poor Cooper has tummy issues adjusting :( I also would bring a blanket on the car ride because they like to snuggle. We did a 9 hour trip home after picking up our pup. Potty pads help on the floorboard but we also had cleared the trunk out and laid out pads there so when he needed a break we pulled over and let him walk around the trunk.
No vaccines yet means you need to carry them until they do, we got a puppy sling and it was SO CUTE and helpful for those last minute trips to Petco and stops out and about. Get nail clippers and practice while they are little, same with teeth!! We brush ours every night and he still fights it. We also use greenies treats for dental health along with water additives and carrots for treats. I recommend a few backup leashes as our boy has always attempted to chew through a few! Lots of toys (puzzles too!!!) but get a basket so your pup only has access to some at a time, they like the variety but will get over stimulated with a lot. Our favorite toys currently are a lifelike possum and bunny and high bouncy rubber balls. Ramps, everywhere. Lol we got 2 from BuddiesNY off Etsy for like $200 each but they are better than stairs for them. Lastly my favorite travel water bottle that we take everywhere we go: https://www.amazon.com/SiRee-Portable-Dispenser-Drinking-Antibacterial/dp/B07C79C5BT/ref=zg_bs_2975358011_1/131-5681193-9803346?pd_rd_i=B09JSRD4P8&psc=1
I also recommend a "diaper bag" so when you leave the house you have a go bag ready of puppy pads, leash, water, toys, food etc.

Our dachshund loves this toy.

I bought one of these. I keep my dachshund in here when I’m not home. She has her bed, water, toys, etc. If you want more room, you can get more than one and make a bigger corral.
Doxies are horizontal dogs.
If you need a tote/carrier for your dog, I'd recommend something like this https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B083SC2668/?coliid=I2W68AY331K0BX&colid=LGXAQG8KC1TO&psc=1&ref\_=lv\_ov\_lig\_dp\_it
Our weenie went to the pet store and we let him choose a toy. This was three years ago and he still has it intact. It is his favorite toy and he always starts squeaking it when we all sit down to watch TV as if to say 'Hey I'm still here my dudes!'
It is made by Zippy Paws. Here is one of them. We have a ninja type but I cannot find that available ATM. I imagine the others are just as durable.
My doxie will not wear booties (also will not step paw on a wet ground so she often will poo right on my door step) but my GSDs have these and it took a bit of bribing and encouragement for them to not gnaw at them but they work very well. We do long walks, even in snow, which is why I got them.
Is he particular about the type of toy? Perhaps he would do well with a snuffle mat similar to this?
Or maybe a treat puzzle where the food doesn’t fall out but he can still play?
we use these for our excitable and leaky puppy: wegreeco Washable Dog Diapers - Washable Male Dog Belly Wrap - Pack of 3 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077ZTYKZC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_i_TFCBB146FVN20H2WCEG8
I just bought these booties for my doxie. It's the best I've found in his 9years of life and he actually don't mind them, and keeps his feet dry and warm long enough to do his business in the -25f Minnesota winter. Also if you want a real nice coat made for doxies so she doesn't need so many layers I recommend voyagers K9 apparel. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08S45FBMQ/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_X2AG91KKEXZFQKZ222BW?psc=1

Sixe xl. The disposable ones wouldn't stay on. These are washable for when he leaks through. They have velcro. I turn them inside out and wash them velcro attached
We bought this because our guy was eating too fast. He has to move the feeder around to get the food out. So, perhaps this might help with diet and exercise.

A lot of dachshunds are highly ball motivated. My friend had to train her Dachshund to play fetch (don’t throw a new ball until he drops a ball), but now he’s obsessed and will sprint for balls as long as you let him.

We got it from Amazon and bought training treats for my old lady pup.
Wow, wasn't really expecting him to be quite this popular! Thanks everyone for the kind words! He is normally quite crazy in the snow luckily I wore him out good before getting this picture. Maybe that is why he would sit still longer then .005/sec. He is normally more like this: https://vimeo.com/85667248
That looks like an excellent solution!
I was going to suggest a slow eater/water bowl myself, like this one, but your suggestion is better.
