Have you looked up media or psychological studies on Google Scholar? You might find some good stuff there and then you can use SciHub to download the articles free of charge. https://sci-hub.do/
Actually, your comment sparked an idea and I found the perfect gift for him: An Unfinished Revolution: Karl Marx and Abraham Lincoln
EDIT: Actually this one's probably better.
I have this one and the more I read the more it all makes sense.

It is THE IMPOSTERS, which I think covers most of the same ground. It is really good. They are no longer interested in governing, just power the money it brings. No real policy discussions or ideas, just the crap the turd and his sycophants are pushing on us. The party no longer exists.
Check out A Patriot's History of the United States. Filled with lies. I used to think nobody could be stupid enough to believe this, but this infrastructure of lies just keeps growing and growing and growing. And if you start learning this from your earliest ages, from people you love and trust, and not only that but you hear it from every single source you check, and the only people who tell you differently are people you've been taught as a bedrock belief to think of as evil, demonic liars, then it's no surprise that this is what you believe.
> One thing that jumped out at me was that over half of them had some sort of financial difficulty in their lives. This is the same group who often claims that millennials need to just get out there and find a job and not work minimum wage or whatever.
Being up to your eyeballs in debt can really mess you up mentally. I've known a few people who were badly in debt and they were just desperate wrecks. Suddenly being okay with morally questionable actions. Lots of short term decision making trying to quick-fix their debt or stay one step ahead of the creditors. Eventually they got their finances in order and they mellowed out quite a bit.
I don't find it surprising that the king of debt and bankruptcies, Donald Trump, acts so outrageously.
I read a really good book a few years ago about the history of Debt. One interesting part that stuck out for me was about the Conquistadors. The book argues that the enormous debts they had all piled up may have contributed to their willingness to exploit the natives as ruthlessly as they did. The more desperate they became, the more exploitative they acted.

He's deep in a misinformation bubble and thinking it's being informed. He either needs to turn the disinformation off entirely, or learn to question literally everything they say and look for the fact checks. His bubble tells him fact checks are lies, so the latter won't work most likely, but at least exposing him to how he's been brainwashed may work.
I was at a sweet 16 party for my niece last night. One if her gifts was this I was horrified but everybody cheered. It was nauseating.
These worked well for me on planes. I have used them in the car with my crazy-ass mother. https://www.amazon.com/3M-WorkTunes-Protector-Bluetooth-Technology/dp/B0723CYHPZ/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=3m+headphones&qid=1629122770&sr=8-8 If you drive, "driver picks the music" may work well enough that you can just play music. With those headphones on, you can also pretend to sleep. Download some books, music or podcasts.
My FoxBrained father actually liked the book "Hoax," which talks about the inner workings of Fox News from the perspective of people who work(ed) there. He at least came away with the sense that Fox is in the business of entertaining viewers, and he's now disgusted with Sean Hannity and won't watch him. So ... baby steps.
This is a good sleeper. It actually explains why black communities were so disenfranchises by drug use and explains that the CIA knew exactly what they were doing pumping crack into the streets. It's a good dad book
I am glad you mentioned Dying of Whiteness it is a really good book if often a little repetitive.
I would add The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Hadith to craft the most effective language in these fights. It has really changed my discussions at work with people who cannot help themselves but to bring up these issues.
I will also add Why We're Polarized by Ezra Klein. It is not eye-opening like some you mentioned but it is probably worthwhile so you can know the history of how we got here and where the Democrats and Republicans might be going.
