As far as intro music, I tend to find it's not necessarily the kind or type of music, but the volume. You want the quality to be really crisp, and at a medium-to-low volume. It's an accent to the show, not the actual show, so you don't want it to be the highest volume item on the show.
On my podcast, I have an intro that a friend did for me with background music. The music is always at a low volume, and I talk over it.
