So I've searched high and low for almost 12 YEARS for a toy/bone that my dog wouldn't rip apart within a day, until I came upon this: https://www.amazon.ca/VANFINE-Squeaky-Indestructible-Aggressive-Non-Toxic/dp/B0832QLH63/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=vanfine+dog+toys&qid=1626812788&sprefix=vanfi&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUE...
My dog has had it for almost a year and it's still going strong, plus I think the fact that he hasn't been able to destroy it makes him even more determined so it keeps him super occupied!
Careful, mine is too, but she kept swallowing the last part (like 3") without chewing it, was scared she'd get obstructed. So I drill a 1/4" hole in one end and put a cotter pin with lock into it, it's too big to swallow and she has to chew it til it's a nubbin. https://www.amazon.com/Hillman-Group-58528-2-Inch-4-Pack/dp/B00MVAA1KQ
I was recommended this slicker brush by a groomer. (link) it works pretty well at brushing out the knots near the skin. It’s quite expensive and I don’t think it’s necessary for every golden doodle, but mine tends to get matted quicker than most. If you’re having issues with your doodle getting matted even with brushing them religiously like I was, I would recommend trying out this brush.
This is the one we bought: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N55BUXN/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I did a decent amount of research beforehand and this one was one of the top crash-tested harnesses (at the time, Oct. 2019).
I groomed my dog many times. Get one of the grooming kits from Amazon don’t try to do it with just scissors it will take you forever and end uneven (I have this one: Sminiker Professional Rechargeable Cordless Dogs Cats Horse Grooming Clippers - Professional Pet Hair Clippers with Comb Guides for Dogs Cats Horses and Other House Animals Pet Grooming Kit https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01D8KIBYU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_PJSYW59WZQ0PJ1NKY6Q0) When you use scissors around the face make sure they never point at his eyes but away from the eyes.
Not a vest but our boy loves to lay on his cooling mat when he gets over heated. We have the medium which is a good size, he is a large 80 lb standard dood.
That's actually a good amount! Depends on the food but our puppy does 1 1/4 cups 3 times a day on Taste of the Wild but that's based on his weight though.
I've suggested it before, but wetting the food a bit and using Stella and Chewy's Magical Dinner Dust works wonders! It's pricey if used often but it works. Bacon flavor appears to be the best one they have. I go through the same with my 4 month puppy, he's picky!

Haha thanks! We started her young which helped. Just brush her out real good beforehand and always shave with the grain. It helps to floof up the hair so it’s not just laying flat otherwise the clippers won’t get it. I don’t have much of a technique she lays on her side then I flip her over and then touch it up while she’s standing. Just start long with the guard and go from there!
I use this clippers.
I bought these guards to keep the fur a little longer (the kit only came with guards up to 12mm which is nice for the summer but pretty short). These guards DO NOT fit the above clippers, they’re the same width and worked just fine with some gorilla tape, lol. Will probably get a nicer set up at some point! LINK
Teething rings as suggested above work well. I also buy my puppy dehydrated bladders at Petsmart, I cut them in half or so, if they're too big (if they've got the "knots") I break them up further. I supervise him as he eats normally or at least for the first few times to ensure he can handle it without choking or that the treat doesn't have splinters of any sort. I also buy him dehydrated tracheas at Petco. Another one he likes are dehydrated fish (herrings), great source of Omega-3 and he likes them, you can get those in Amazon. Peanut butter in a kong works but it's messy. The way we fixed that was make him some frozen treats, essentially plain yogurt mixed with peanut butter (some people also use bananas, up to you). I freeze them and put the little treat cube in a cold penguin: PetSafe Chilly Penguin Treat Holding Dog Toy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BVKY59G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_F62cGbJZN9KK9
It gets the work done and I stick that treat in there so that there's no mess. That's our go to nighttime treat in order for him to go into his crate with ease.
A de-matting comb will do wonders. They usually have 8 or so long tines that actually have a blade on the edge of them which act to cut any matting out of the fur and remove it as you comb. We have this one and I'd highly recommend it. We alternate between this and a classic furminator brush. Ours is a full size 80lb F1 girl, and she gets brushed every other day/every 3 days, and full grooms only every 12 weeks or so. Occasionally she will come home with some shaved spots on hard to brush areas, like elbows, but never has had to be full shaved and we're usually going from full fluff down to a 1/2" cut.
Warning on the brush I linked, just be very careful around skin folds like their legs, ears, etc as those little blades are of course fairly sharp.
Being an F1 the wavy coat is def more likely. We have an F1 girl - mom was a reddish golden and dad was a silver/black full poodle - and she has always been very wavy in her torso and more curly in her head/neck/legs. She started a bit darker tan and has lightened up to a very light tan. Shes 3 now (80lbs) and her coat really developed more curls into year 2 and 3 honestly.
You'll have a great time with him either way, enjoy the adventure! F1 is also likely lightly shed. I would recommend a "furminator" brush and a de-matting brush. We have this one and this one and I'd highly reccomend both.
We've stuffed chicken breast in the bone kong, it's the only thing she'll consistently chew on that's not my table or my hands 🤣
Since you mentioned it, you can see ours has a teeny tiny white tip on her tail too, genetics of coloring must be somewhat predictable

In addition to what other people have already mentioned.
- Baby wipes for their feet if you need to take them out every once in a while. This will get them used to touching their feet for nail trims/files.
- If you're picking up a new puppy, they might vomit in the car so have a cozy carrier ready to go and cleaner and paper towel. (I gave my puppy a dry pig ear to chew on during the car ride or any type of treat. Just got my puppy a week ago!)
- I got Pupford freeze dry treats for training

Oh my gosh, mine had never learned to drink nicely 🤣 but as a puppy we got a bowl that had a floating disk in it and he couldn’t put his whole face in the bowl. It worked for a few months till he got smart and realized he could just push the disk down and put his whole face in. They make a super fancy expensive one if it really bothers you but we just have a gross floor all the time. Here are the links to similar bowls.

Thank you so much, u/blumpkinslutlatte. I don't use rugs and only have doormats at entry/exit points (main door, balcony, etc.), so do you think I need to get rid of them or teach the pup that the mats aren't the right place to potty on? I have a "new puppy" set in my Amazon cart right now, which also has a clicker. But I'm holding off on the purchase until a few days before the "Go Home" date.
Does this look good?

It’s a bit of an investment but I swear by the Chris christensen big g coral slicker brush . It is unlike any slicker brush I have ever used. You also need a greyhound metal comb. Look up videos on line brushing. If you line brush everyday you will avoid the mats altogether. Matting on the ears and neck can get dangerous quick, if you don’t know what you’re doing please just take the dog to the groomer so they can safely shave them out and you can start over.
Size up! Especially since they’ll still need a groom. If you’re in a place with lots of ice melt chemicals you might also consider leggings…https://www.chewy.com/walkee-paws-dog-boot-leggings/dp/348315?utm_id=401602795&msclkid=4059fc75ef2f11f2d6619f133ee32c6e&utm_source=bing&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Shopping_NC_Dog_HG_Apparel%20%26%20People%20Products_Apparel_SSP&am... They are on Amazon too. I used to be neighbors with the husband of the woman that created them. Solid people.
I did the artificial grass trick with my aussiedoodle until 4 months. It’s great short term, but the smell of the grass won’t go away. Believe me, I tried everything. Highly recommend getting a dog potty. It was a game changer for us.

I might be in the minority here but mine hate that style slicker brush I think it kinda scratches the skin I use this Grooming rake and mine has a similar coat but a bit more curly and it has really helped with matting and with so much hair on the floor

Our dood was so stressed in the car. 10 minutes and barking at everything, wouldn’t settle. We got her a car tube:
Like that one, she loves it now. We just did a 7 hour car ride and she slept the whole time. In fact now when we tell her it’s “tube time” she runs to the car for adventure time. It’s pretty cute. Maybe that would help? Otherwise super sweet dood and family!
You might not like my answer but this thing is magical. I have used 5-6 brushes in the past and bought it based on recommendation here and it is worth every pennny:
Chris Christensen Big G Dog... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KAJQJ74?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Wash his hair once every week or more often as needed. Once dry brush thoroughly and then either: 1. Spray with a children’s detangling spray and comb (my groomer says if it’s safe for kids is safe for pups) OR 2. Rake with one of these special combs which I prefer. It’s got a curve to it and you can watch videos on how to use it, basically you want to get close to the base of the hairs and sweep up to catch mattes. Mattes in curly hair form tight to the skin so you have to get under them. special comb
This is effective but my dogs don't really like it: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071GGPXVV?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details
I'm not sure if the smell is off-putting or they don't like being sprayed? Either way, I've been spraying the brush with it and that seems to be acceptable to my dogs.
We had the same issue with our doodle. He is 4 months now. We fed him purina pro plan chicken as well and he constantly had gut issues. We change to lamb and rice and his poop has been solid ever since. You can also give him Purina fortilaflora probiotic supplement for dietary management of dogs with diarrhea. If it comes to throwing up ours ate very quickly. These have been amazing! We used to use these every time she went outside to go potty when it was wet or even on short muddy walks. Not only do they keep her feet clean but it reduces mud splatter up her inner legs. They also stay on really well and it took trying a couple products to find ones that worked for us.
She also gets lots of foot baths in the shower lol.
If you don't have an xpen, I'd invest in one. We have several, but the main one we use is in the living room. Something like this one (though I also bought them at Tractor Supply):
Our 7 month old puppy can get to the point where "leave it" and inserting toys, chewable "bones", etc., don't work. At that time, we put her in the xpen.
Also, consider leashing her even in the house. Our trainer recommended to teach "leave it" by when the dog is biting, say "leave it" (only ONCE -- very hard to do), use the leash to corral the dog away from you. Once the dog stops going to bite you, with a loose leash, treat and praise.
Repeat many, many times. Ours is getting better, a lot better, but the excitement of biting sometimes outweighs "leave it".
But without the leash, it's a challenge to separate the dog from your body, and our dog loves shoes, socks, shorts, while you're wearing them.
Here you go!! Like I said- I would definitely just check the price everyday. So tedious but I managed to buy it brand new marked down by quite a bit.

Im going camping in Colorado/Utah so it’ll be cooler. I’m not sure how my dog would do in FL temps so I haven’t taken him in the backpack for long periods of time since it is pretty hot out right now.
I actually just bought this detangler after someone else on this sub mentioned using detangler for their goldendoodle: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B071GGPXVV?ref=nb_sb_ss_w_as-reorder-t1_ypp_rep_k0_1_18&amp&crid=1DG9ZG28ARC0M&amp&sprefix=detangler+for+dogs
I like it so far. My goldendoodle's fur is much more golden retriever-y than poodle-y though so I can't make any promises for curlier pups.
We recently bought this to try to encourage our picky dog to be more excited about food: https://www.chewy.com/nandi-karoo-ostrich-meat-sprinkles/dp/262419
We have to mix it in with his food because if we just shake it over the top, he will eat only the top layer of food which touched the sprinkles and leave the rest.
PetSafe 3-in-1. I just got this for our mini golden, and I use the front no-pull ring. It's really solid, and our boy likes it.

After years of on again off again issues like chewing paws and ear infections and trying all different foods we finally switched to this food and they have loved it and never had any itching or ear problems again. Sounds over the top but I am not kidding.
Mine is 8 also. She started taking these 2 years ago. No idea if they help but they got great reviews on Amazon and she likes to eat them, once a day.

Hi OP! Professional groomer here. If you haven’t yet ordered the C Christensen brush, don’t. It is incredibly, incredibly overpriced, and I can assure you from someone who does this for a living, it is not worth it. It is not a miracle worker. Order either of these:

I own the C Christensen brush and I would never recommend an owner pay that amount of money for a slicker brush, ESPECIALLY because the pins are soft and are not technically made to dematt or handle a curly coat that hasn’t been previously brushed out/conditioned.

Yeah, the price on the Big G is kind of ridiculous. I do this professionally and the only reason I own the brush is because it was gifted to me by a very generous classmate in grooming school. I see this brush recommended ALL the time, and the only way it will help you is if your dog is PERFECTLY brushed and de-matted. If you have any Matting it’s going to do pretty much nothing. Granted, you should be brushing your dog every single day, but the pins are just so soft. Especially if your dog has a wiry poodle kind of coat, it’s not made to break up those curls without prep.
I also use a Hertzko slicker brush to take knots out: https://www.chewy.com/hertzko-self-cleaning-dog-cat-slicker/dp/137317
The equigroomer is fantastic at de-shedding but doesn't do much to take out tangles or mats so I brush too. My goldendoodle has always been cooperative for grooming (she's a rescue and her foster mom is a dog groomer and got her acclimated to brushing and nail clipping) so I've been fortunate with her. Our other dog (golden retriever/little bit of everything else mix) doesn't really like brushing but likes the equigroomer.
My breeder recommended me this shampoo WAHL Dry Skin & Itch Relief Pet Shampoo for Dogs – Oatmeal Formula with Coconut Lime Verbena & 100% Natural Ingredients, 24 Oz https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005CUTWDE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_B8WN4CTN3A98HGMWZF7F

We've had a lot of success with the Benebone Wishbone. Anytime we saw her chewing something she wasn't meant to we just give her her wishbone and she chews that right away. She absolutely loves that thing. We got the medium size in chicken flavour. Highly highly recommend.
We got in touch with a groomer right away and they advised a “puppy plan” which was a few short appointments over the first 6 months to get the puppy used to the groomers. Baths, small trims around paws and face, etc. He said it really helps acclimate the dog before you give them the first full cut.
I would also recommend getting into the habit of brushing every day (or two) pretty early so that the dog doesn’t mind it. Play with their paws and get them desensitized to be touched and prodded and it will make mail clipping, grooming, and vet appointments so much easier.
We had a lot of issues with fur getting matted in a harness, so I would start leash training early so that you can switch to a collar as fast as possible. And I would take the harness off after you get back inside instead of leaving it on.
They take a while to dry and ours doesn’t like the hair drier, so we got a “dog towel” off Amazon and it does a good job of getting water out of her fur. Makes it a lot easier after baths.
Of course, treats, teething toys, crate if needed (I’m a big fan of crate training) food, etc. Your puppy will probably have an upset stomach at first so if you mix your food into what the breeder gave you, that should help. About a 50/50 mix until you run out of the breeders food.
The brush we use is a wire brush like this one that our groomer said was best for doodles.
The last thing you may not think of would be some kind of spray like this that will extend the time between baths. It’s nice when they’ve been out in the rain or at the park but you don’t want to give them a full bath. And a carpet cleaner of course.
Best of luck to you! Puppy time is so fun, take lot of pictures of the goofy stuff he does. :-)
I would use a mild antiseptic to clean the area, then apply a hot spot treatment like this one: https://www.chewy.com/healers-hot-spot-relief/dp/216903
As best you can distract from licking it off. Even a few minutes on will help give some relief.
Switched to THIS food
Using this trifecta for the past 3 months has made my dood’s hair as soft as it used to be as a puppy again. Seems to tangle a little less as well which makes brushing easier. He has pretty sensitive skin and it hasn’t caused any problems.

They make some, like the Pawsafe model, that have a built in light.
The trick is to cut only a small amount off, frequently, to avoid cutting the quick, which bleeds an alarming amount (so buy styptic powder) Even if you take her in for a "real" trim by a professional, she will be used to having her paws handled and that makes things easier for everyone.
Here’s what we’ve loved: -Nulo Brand, Adult Salmon & Sweet Potato -Nulo Brand, Adult Turkey & Sweet Potato
Our vet mentioned that grain free diet could lead to heart issues in dogs -I think especially golden retrievers- so he recommended the below from Amazon. But totally do your own research, make your own choices, do what you think is best. Like I said, we loved Nulo but it is $65-70 per 25lb bag. Best thing is to try small bags at first to see if she likes it before trying any new brand of a huge bag. And of course, mix for a few days to ease the stomach. A lot of people have utilized a pvc dog bed with like a trampoline type material as the bed. They don’t seem to be very easy to get destroyed either. Below is a version on chewy and it seems rather affordable
What about a memory foam bed?

A high velocity dryer is a huge time saver if you have the budget and patience to desensitize your dood to it. I use this one: Flying One High Velocity 4.0 Hp Motor Dog Pet Grooming Force Dryer w/Heater.
I actually use a human trimmer. I tried multiple fancy dog clippers even ones that cost 200 bucks, but they all got clogged and would tear more than cut. These are the ones I have been using for about 4 years now:

For nails I use normal pet clippers, then an electric nail file to smooth them out.

Works great in between baths
Yes, this is the link
It should be available for anyone in the US. I have been very happy with it. And my dog is obsessed with it, but he's a weirdo, lol
Can I ask which drops you got in particular and how long it was before it went away?
This is what we got so yeah the ointment should help https://www.chewy.com/neo-poly-bac-generic-ophthalmic/dp/173399?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=p&utm_content=Neo-Poly-Bac&utm_term=&gclid=CjwKCAiAtouOBhA6EiwA2nLKH7fM6GMARXvol45qzZWQaqa3zBh6_OTf6i6QA4Luh7...
How long ago did you get your puppy? It took a good week before our dood was comfortable enough to take treats from us! Also, the treats we started out giving him were low value for him. He loved the super smelly meaty treats our dog trainer used on him during training sessions so we go those! He love these Real Meat Company treats!

stainless steel brush. Use the wider space ones to de-Matt and knot, then the finer side to finish out for a just groomed brush look
I got one my groomer recommended to me! It is definitely pricier but has been worth it and held up great in the 2 years I’ve had it. This is the one I have I ordered it off Amazon:

Check out walkee paws! They're the gold standard from what I have heard.
I use these below from Amazon, my 14lb dood can't get them off, but they're legit rubber balloons lol.

inflatable cones are awesome! The suit may not stop the licking, but these inflatable cones attach to a collar and are like little pillows for the pups. A million times better than the Elizabethan cones.
Mine was 26 lbs at 16 weeks, 49 lbs at 6 months and he just turned 2 and is 90 lbs now
this calculator seems pretty accurate and I used it to gauge his adult weight
I use bio silk pet spray an a I use this brush HERTZKO Self-Cleaning Slicker Brush for Dogs and Cats Pet Grooming Dematting Brush Easily Removes Mats, Tangles, and Loose Fur from The Pet’s Coat (Original) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ZGPI3OY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JMGWKQGC0QJ16K7T9EJT?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Yes - here is a link. It’s an allergy supplement that I give to her Nov-April or so to help with dry itchy skin! She always gets it when the heat goes on and the windows shut.
Don’t bet upset at yourself for not brushing your pups. It’s all a learning experience with a new fur baby. I had to pay extra because I didn’t have proper tools and my dog looked like a rat. We were all sad. I bought a de-matting comb off of chewy.com I was going to post the link here, but it was too De-Matting Comb
Mine looks very similar to this but I’m not sure which brand mine is (I got mine at a dog groomer in my town) https://www.amazon.com/Show-Tech-Transgroom-Tangles-Slicker/dp/B00TYEMIK8 I’ll look at the brand of mine when I get home, I didn’t pay more than $20 and it works very well for my dood! He’s 55 lbs and I got a medium sized brush
Thank you!!! We are in Canada so it’s important he’s warm through our Canadian winters lol. We got it on Amazon actually!

I use some chews I got from Amazon. My dog had lots of hotspots. Apoquel (dog allergy med) gave him bad runs. I started giving him these chews and no more licking and chewing his legs and paws.

Have you looked into Sharon Bolt's Leash Training course? She's a top dog behavior expert who's quite good at what she does.
Our doodle was just like that at 4 months old. He would constantly be running around and if we weren’t watching him for a second he would chew on crown molding, shoes, furniture etc. I didn’t have heart to keep him in the crate. So our compromise was to get him a playpen. We had this one from Amazon (we also pitched few extra panels to make it bigger) when we couldn’t watch him or were out of the house he’d be in there. Eventually we started leaving doors open and he’d go in there himself to play and nap. Now he is over two years old and we stopped using it a long while ago. He just snuggles up on the couch like a perfect little angel.

We use this one and will cover up one of the holes. Ot also helps if you put a variety of sizes of treats inside it to make it harder.

This is the one I use on my standard golden doodle. Works well. SHELANDY 3.2HP Stepless Adjustable Speed Pet Hair Force Dryer Dog Grooming Blower with Heater https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WLQPJ58/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_Q4E1YQCS9YWG7WXYGMWH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I didn't look through the other comments to see if this was mentioned yet, but THIS is what we use on our Goldendoodle and it is by far the best comb/brush we've tried. Just be patient using it as it sometimes take several passes before the mat/tangle comes free.
We got one from Go Pet but this one looks fairly comparable in terms of features and price

Anxiety is definitely expected and normal lol it’s a big thing taking on ownership and caring for these dogs. My lil guy is a full time job haha In a good way. They are the best friends you could ever ask for. Every doodle I seem to meet is incredibly sweet, smart, athletic, and cute asf. All the things.. take a nice blanket you want you give him and when you go to pick him up have the breeder put the towel on the mom if possible and get her scent. This makes a big difference apparently and I did it and my guy loved his giant yellow $50 microfiber yoga towel I stole from my sister and he snuggled into that thing whenever he was nervous and would sleep quiet even the first couple nights. As for potty training they are smart and catch on quick maybe have pads ready for when you can’t crate him. I personally used the Amazon soft crate I found I’ll link below for when I needed a sec and he could have a place to sleep. I highly recommend this one bc you can unzip the top and pick them up out of it if you choose. Mine loved to jump up and peek out the top when he got tall enough. Also would eventually jump out… and then I would zip it. Then he broke out a few times. Lol he doesn’t need it anymore but it will make your life 500x easier than the big heavy one that is a PITA to move around. Good luck and enjoy your new love bug
