Ordered these from Amazon on Friday night, May 17 and they arrived at my doorstep on Monday, May 20. This is super fast considering I am in Hawaii and also that shipping was free (good luck finding any fitness supply that will ship weights free of charge!). Weights were shipped via USPS. The 20lb arrived in a USPS flat rate large box while the 10lb arrived in a USPS padded envelope. The 20lb box arrived heavily beaten but sufficiently taped. Inside the box was a ton of cardboard rolled up to protect the weight and the Yes4All branded box. Within the Yes4All box was another box and within that was the weight wrapped in bubblewrap. The 10lb arrived just in the padded envelope and then the Yes4All box with the weight wrapped in padding.
Unlike the Rogue fitness ruck plates, the Yes4All has the weight engraved in rather than raised which creates a smooth, flat surface.
I did a super scientific weigh in on my consumer level scale and the 20lb came in at 19.2lbs and the 10lb came in at 9.5 lbs. Will weigh again when I have a more precise scale.
So in my pack I have a Source 3L that's inside one of these guys. The intention is to help protect the bladder from punctures, etc.
There's basically 1 and 6/8ths worth of tubes connecting to the outside. The extra length is used to fill up the bag from a disposable water bottle. The top disconnect you see on the shoulder is where I can do that with the adapter here. The extra length is so I can set the pack on the ground and just hold the water bottle up and fill it up. Since it's before the filter there'll be no concern.
The zip ties are temporary as I have some additional quick disconnects that are beefy enough that zip ties are not needed (you can't easily yank the tubes out). The blue and grey caps are there so that I can take off the sawyer filter and backflush out junk as it needs it. One additional benefit of the very top disconnect is that if any of this springs a leak I can disconnect the source and minimize the amount of water that leaks on me (or is otherwise wasted).
The intention is to make this modular, easy to fill/use, and highly organized. I'm sure there's things that I can do better. I look forward to the comments (and hate)!
First off congrats! Fatherhood really is the best. I use a 21L GR1 for this purpose and it's my EDC I'm sure a 26L would be more than fine depending on much you are carrying. They aren't in diapers forever.. just get a folding changing pad, itll hold some extra diapers and some wipes you'll be good to go.
Yes, just thick ones.
Ranger Bands Mixed 35 Count Made... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FM7MBGZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
The big ones are perfect for the hip strap and the small ones perfect for the shoulder straps.
I have had very good success with the standard Eagle Creek packing cubes. I just swapped out the standard ones for the standard compressible kind (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010B2I6Q6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
I'm not a fan of their Specter line. Even though they are thinner material and save some tiny amount of thickness, I like being able to see what's inside and to have the full flap open.
I scraped the Training website and condensed the workouts...
Here they are for those interested: Workouts.zip

My only issue with slicks is that they don't include the webbing on the shoulder straps, so adding a sternum strap is difficult. I usually just stick one of these over the velcro.
All they need to do is make a heritage slick bullet and I can die happy.
It probably depends on what you need to organize, and how you'll be using it.

I got this for my GR1 because I needed something small inside that I could detach when I needed to.
https://www.vanquest.com/ppm-slim-2-0-personal-pocket-maximizer-organizer/
I got two of those on the outside of my GR1, held on by MOLLE sticks because I sometimes need to detach them to hand to a coworker (for work related stuff).

Not currently available but there are other companies that make these. Similar to the Tom Bihn style. I had success with this for a while before I switched to the GoRuck waist belt.

You should be able to attach the velcro yourself.

a lot of bike lights will have a mounting clip like this - i have this one and it fits reasonably securely on my GR2 and on the bullet.
you may also consider getting a few reflective bands (like this, but i should emphasize you could fashion one yourself), to give yourself a bit more visibility (especially on the sides). i found that when i was hunched over on my road bike the rear light would face more up than back unless i set more upright, which isn't how road bikes typically are designed (usually more hybrid and mountain bikes)
Nice. And it's cheaper then the walmart paperback right now ($28)
Once you settle on a hip belt, put a Condor battle belt over the top for maximum hip loading. I am a high mileage Star Course guy and after adding the Condor I could never go back to only having the GR belt.
Books
I like listening to philosophy-related books while rucking. been mostly interested in Stoic philosophy so far:

Pretty much everyone in my MFA writing program had the same love/hate relationship with the writing process. :) If you haven't read The War of Art, about the challenges of writing, it's a must.
Make it a rolltop with wide opening and clip/buckle closure like this, and it'll double as kettle bells for curling (i.e. a more trapezoidal shape than an actual rolltop kettlebell

I still have marks from the sim rounds on my chest from January.
It’s not navy, nut. . . does a good job, you can rock patched
3:1 Adhesive Heat Shrink Tubing,... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PYQH1HH?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
This is pretty much identical to the goruck stuff. I double it up. Shrink one and then shrink another on top. Much stiffer and nicer feel to the pulls. I used those things on ever damn zipper pull I own, goruck or not
I have same one from Amazon.
I sprayed mine but still have yet to wear them. Sprayed my black BT's and I/O's as well as my coyote/black suede MACV-1's (and the Snow White GR1/Rucker/Bullet) and seems to be doing the job. It's not Scotchguard though, it's called TriNova Stain Guard.
I have one of these for my GR1.
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07FKKZ8QJ/
It has a velcro panel, so I can pop the clip and pull the pouch out completely if I need to. But it's doesn't take up the full size of the molle.
I used these and it feels identical. They are thick like the ones from goruck and they have an adhesive inside the tube that melts when you heat it up so that it bonds to the paracord.
Ancor Marine Grade Electrical Heat Activated Adhesive Lined Shrink Tubing
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000NI0626/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I actually don't utilize the velcro as much as I originally intended to. I use a few of their ammo pouches and a field pocket for organizing cables and batteries in my shooter depending on what I'm doing. I wouldn't have that flexibility with the molle though.
For my 6D with a lens attached I use a Tenba BYOB 10. I can fit a 24-70 2.8 and an 85mm 1.2 in the BYOB and it easily transfers between other bags if I need it to. You can even fit it sideways in a 10L Bullet Ruck (which is my go-to for car shows and conventions).
If I'm carrying more than 2 lenses on me, I put the rest in some neoprene lens pouches from Altura Photo. I got them on Amazon and I think there's like a dozen other companies selling the same thing.
There's nothing out there that is large enough with a velcro backing to hold the camera body with a lens attached or a large lens.
I can try to post pictures of a typical load out later but I don't have any handy at the moment.
Tenba BYOB: https://www.amazon.com/Tenba-BYOB-10-Camera-Insert/dp/B00KT7GKXK/
Heya, I've been using the amazon brand ones for a couple of years now in my GR1.
I fit in there 2 small, 1 medium and 1 GR2 padded field pocket, and there's still room left. Small cubes are for underwear and the medium is for shirts/pants. I separate clean from dirty by having a ziplock bag inside each that I fill up as I use items.
Have been pretty happy with these, I think they making packing, repacking and unpacking a lot easier in general especially when moving between locations in a trip.
I’ve used a cheap cover from amazon for my rucker. I’ve only used it once so I can’t vouch for its durability, but it worked great when I did use it. It was a light rain, but my pack was completely dry underneath. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H4MTQVG?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I just bought a 30lb plate off Amazon from a company called yes4all. It’s Chinese, but it’s identical in size to the GR branded ones. Oh yeah, and it’s only $45 brand new.Yes4All Ruck Plate
The t-shirts are literally just regular tees. They're comfy but nothing special. If you're looking for performance, your best bet is just a regular UnderArmour compression shirt.
I typically just ruck in shorts. Soffe Shorts (Ranger Panties) are amazing and can be found on Amazon super cheap. Their Infantry Performance Shorts are my favorite.
If you had to buy one piece of clothing from GoRuck, I'd recommend a pair of Challenge Pants since they're specifically made for those events and they're covered by Scars.
The best is a 3L low profile Source bladder on the inside. I hate having stuff hanging off my ruck.
Second best is this OneTigris minimal bottle holder, mounted to the internal molle panel.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00WFT7FW0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
In my commuter GR1 I have a Field Pocket on the internal molle alongside that OneTigris holder, so I can tuck a water bottle or travel coffee mug inside without losing it inside the bag. On the bus I leave the top unzipped a bit and basically use it as a cupholder.
My first post ever on reddit. I’ve been looking at this forum for months and it has helped me tremendously. Hope this helps someone out there.
At 8.9 inches wide and about 11 inches tall it’s perfect to slide in your ruck. Allows for full Velcro closure of the plate flap in my Rucker 26l. On Amazon the yes4all plates have been ranging from $20-$25 and availability is hit or miss.
Sandbags I have no comment on. Actually searching for what you have!
Bladder: I bought a $20 one on Amazon in January and am very pleased with it. It reaches the bottom of my SpeedRucker, and I use a s-biner to clip it in. I like this one because the parts all detach, and it opens completely from the top. Easy to clean with the included tools. It's not U.S. made, but its thick rubber and I think it's going to last a long time.

If I am expecting heavy rain, I have used this one for the past 2 or 3 years:
Fits my 25L Ruckers or 26L GR1 perfectly.
This is the one you want. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Q51GZ9C/
No, it does not hang past the bottom of the backpack...unless you adjust it to do so. Dunno what that other guy is smoking.
I bought a "bag bungee" on Amazon. It loops over the suitcase handles, and then tightens to hold the bag in place.
Not sure if this is the product or just a similar one: https://www.amazon.com/Bungee-Luggage-Straps-Suitcase-Adjustable/dp/B07RRDFHCM
Plates are definitely worth it if you ruck regularly at all. You can get plates that will work with your GR1 for pretty cheap on Amazon. Not quite 30 but this one is reasonable https://www.amazon.com/Yes4All-25-Ruck-Weight-Weighted/dp/B07XT6KVH9/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=2JWEQIS7V98DD&keywords=yes4all+ruck+plate+30&qid=1659492279&sprefix=yes4all+ruck+plate%2Caps%2C110&sr=8-3
I bought a 55l Amazon basics Hiking bag which has been pretty good.

I purchased this one and it fits perfectly. It's the 45# though. If you have a 30# you can just put it in the front pocket. That's what I do with my 30# plate. This was cheaper than the Yes all. BalanceFrom Cast Iron Ruck... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09RLQGC2X?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Cool, I went for this (very similar) one: https://www.amazon.nl/dp/B001BVTUDA/ref=cm_sw_r_oth_api_i_YTEV236WX6NP8T6WCDPT
I think I’ll first try it in my Rucker (v1 I think it is) 26L that I actually don’t use that often anymore. See how it sticks, and then after successful attachment and use also apply it to my bullet 10L
I've used something like this before:
I used it to make an iron on patch compatible with Velcro and it worked well. I can't say for sure how effective it would be for your purposes, but it's inexpensive and may be worth a shot
You could try something like this: https://www.amazon.com/ITW-Picatinny-QASM-RAMP-Mount-660-0200-6023/dp/B00I8YWUG2
Not sure if there's something more flat, you wouldn't use the rail, so you could in theory carefully saw it off, but make sure you sand it smooth if you do
Good solution to prevent weights digging into your back is to use a sandbell or steelbell neoprene weight that Hyperwear makes
Or to minimize cost use plastic bags and duct tape.
You could also try a pair of these new 9lb flexible weight vest plates that are adjustable and available on Amazon. The can also be used in a tactical weight vest.
I haven’t purchase these personally, but I’ve seen them recommended.

Arid bullet, yes. I will let you know when the time comes. Thanks.
But if you could get a sous vide thing in the water that'd probably work just fine. It took a good bit of water to cover the pack in the tub, tho, which is probably why it was taking so long to heat up

Cheers!
I use these. They are inexpensive but seem to do the job well enough. I tugged on my pouch when attached to my bag, and it seems like it will hold up.
Consider this one as it is cheaper, has no name brand cast into it, and is the same size (maybe slightly thinner based on numbers) as the goruck 45# plate https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B096WM2K5V/
Yeah, try these.

You can also locate a local metal shop that would more than likely cut you a laptop size scrap for very cheap. The dimensions of your bag and interior space is online to provide to them as well for a quick custom order and local pick up. I paid $20 for a 30# plate cut for me years ago.
I've used this one a lot recently.

I've used this off and on off the shoulder strap but not when doing sandbags as well. Works fairly well and is inexpensive.
There are 2 different plates because the tall skinny one is meant to fit in the laptop sleeve of the GR1 and the short fat one is meant to fit in the dedicated ruck plate sleeve on the Rucker.
This Yes4All 20lb plate is the one that fits a GR1 and that's the weight I'd recommend you start with
You could spray it with scotchguard to make it slicker
Its black cordura and its kind of like a velcro meaning it will pick up alot of stuff vs slick surface like gore tex or polyester
imo: just keep washing it and beat it up so it gets softer
I used this for my duffel bag for OCR - I sprayed the bottom of my bag to make waterproof and mudproof. It's pretty good stuff. Worth the investment. Still have the original can from 3 years ago. I just re spray every year.
I don't have off brand for my Rucker 3 25L but I have one and a goruck 45lbs plate for it.
The 45 lbs goruck plate is:
9.5" x 15" x 1.38".
The 45 lbs yes4all plate is:
I probably should have saved $100 and gotten the yes4all plate.
It'll be on the big side, but not comically so. The only photo I have of me wearing it is with a person strapped inside - so that doesn't do much to lend credibility to the "its not that big" claim. I'm 6'/170#, she's maybe 4'11"/100# soaking wet.
https://instagram.com/p/f6sF4CzaWd/?modal=true
That said, it cinches down very small/snug to your back. The problem I could easily see you bumping up against is how tall the actual frame is - it might be too tall to fit your torso properly.

I hang mine from a rubber coated hook drilled into the wall in my garage. But unless the pack is wet, they just stay in my rucker 90% of the time which also hangs from the hooks. Is it bad to keep plates in the pack?

Found this on an old forum site: "The SK26 is the "Slick" version of the GR1, with the same dimensions. The only things missing on the SK26 as opposed to the GR1 are, place for a patch, hydration port, and molle on the outside." http://bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/goruck-sk26.132386/
I'm not familiar with HDPE, but I assume they have plastic or Kydex perhaps. I ordered a sheet of Kydex from Amazon a while back, for a ruck that doesn't come with an insert. I measured it the best I could and used aviation shears to snip it to size. With a little sandpaper to smooth out the rough edges, came out pretty nice. As far as the measurements go for the insert of an SD26, I think you have to pretty much do the best you can with a ruler or measuring tape and kinda just eyeball it. Although I'm sure someone on here has cut a Kydex insert before for a GR1.

It was a pouch with a velcro back, so I could peel it off when I needed to remove it, or just open it to access the stuff I needed. I think that particular model is not available anymore, but there are others like it.
Your best bet would be to take it a tailor/luggage repair center nearby.

I like this look of this one. Works well. Uses Molle. To get my Nalgene in it take alittle work but fits.
I put one of this on the shoulder strap (not the side molle) for easy access. It is big enough to hold a 500ml bottle and my phone. It looks a bit "tackycal" but it's quite effective and convenient.
these help, I wear these under my normal synthetic socks
Try the Tenba BYOB backpack versions. I have the BYOB 9 DSLR version and it fits great in the GR1 26l with room to spare to use the slant and inside pockets of the GR1. It does fit in the 21 as well but the pockets are less usable. The 9 is just a little shorter than the 10.
I've got this one on a Greyman Tactical RMP panel in my Rucker:
I hadn't heard about Goruck releasing one, but I saw a rec for this one somewhat recently. If they give it a trapezoidal shape with a wide opening it'll double as a lunch bag...

Congrats....I can share with you one of the most important things is if this(see below) will fit into your bag. My daughters bladder was perfectly timed to the starting time of any event I was attending. I had a Wilson’s tote bag with this item, ziploc bags, wipes, etc that was perfect. Drop the tail gate of the pickup truck tailgate and no more abandoning prime locations at parks for bathroom issues. In 2003-2006 I don’t think GORUCK existed.

I was looking for it too. I think it is this one, but in gray.
It will fit even with a 30# plate in the velcro pocket. You could even stuff it into the elastic pocket while there’s the plate at the same time.

ah, pretty sure they say right on the page not to drag it on concrete. better luck next time. Maybe they can repair for you but it will probably be for a price.
if you need to drag it (plank pull throughs, etc are valuable training) get some of the EVA foam mats like these and do the drags on there, if not on grass/soft ground.
The PVC patches are from The Musa Store (warrior and fighting Spirit). I usually have those 2 patches on during more challenging events.
I attached my patches to the molle with 4 pieces of velcro strips like these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KNK6I3E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_B1j4Fb7NA66J3
It is weird only having 2 rows of molle now but I also don't need reflective bands so that makes up for it.
Thread some of those cable "key rings" like THESE through gutted paracord.
Use some heavy duty heat shrink with the adhesive in it to heatshrink the pulls, but leave some room toward the zipper head that you could slide a small lock through.
Should be strong enough that they would cut your bag to get inside, or just "pen" open the zipper.
I bought something similar to this on Amazon for $15-20 bucks about three years ago. I beat the hell out of it hiking Hawaii for two weeks, up and down the mountains, in rain, in the pool, and up the waterfall of Maunawili Falls Trail; never thought twice about anything given the price point. I use it to BBQ in the dark, I've used it for biking in the dark, and it lives in my EDC because hey, you never know. It's been a beast and if I have to get another one after all the BS I've thrown at it - that's $20 well spent.
>Dopp kit (Wash bag) - Again no need to overcook this but same as above. Stylish but brand fitting wash bag with all the durablity and design logic as the other gear. Fully spec ops style! Just the way we love it!
This is the 'Spec Ops' toiletry bag.
After trying a bunch I went with this
Nite Ize Clip Case Cargo Phone Holster - Protective, Clippable Phone Holder for Your Belt Or Waistband - Extra Tall - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0142LUTU8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabt1_cstUFbKXYBNWZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Not sure if this is cheaper (or if it will be)
I have seen some people use Christmas lights. I had a 20ft led string on mine for the last santa ruck. Charged solar.
You could also use the headlamp below. I recommend pointing it down at your feet by either, attaching it to the bottom handle of your ruck or hang from the bottom molle. It is by far the brightest head lamp I have had and bought 4 after Cadre Fagan lit up a Forrest with his.
