Found this list that describes which technique is used in each course: https://www.headspace.com/blog/2018/11/27/after-headspace-basics/#technique
I'm gonna keep with the noting technique and do the Productivity course.
I had this dilemma after finishing the basics too. I would recommend trying any 10 day packs that you think look interesting. If you’re comfortable with meditation, the pro packs are great for honing technique. Some of the singles are really useful if you’re in need of something quick. Whatever you pick, you can’t really go wrong (just make sure you do the pro packs in order). If you’re stuck in a rut, you can always repeat some of the basics.
Here’s something from the Headspace blog you might find useful. https://www.headspace.com/blog/2018/11/27/after-headspace-basics/
Also, reading articles and books, and watching things about mindfulness and meditation is a good way to stay motivated. I would recommend the books ‘the mind illuminated’ by John Yates and ‘Peace is every step’ by Thich Nhat Hanh. Any TED talks about mindfulness and meditation would be worth a watch too.

Anual for 20usd
I subscribed for anxiety and it was life-changing. I strongly recommend you find a way to do it. If 20 USD is more that what you can spend for anual (it costs lot more! This is really really good deal) then try to find some other way. Maybe even mail them. But I can't emphasize enough to try it out :-)
Groupon has a discount on right now! Hope that helps! I'm a Canadian student too, sucks that we can't get the deal :(
30 days for free, and if you consider waking up app, they give you one year for free if u just write to them that you can't afford ;)

Might be a good time to read through their Privacy Policy. The thing is, 90% of online services place ads through Google and Facebook, and they have to place trackers in their websites and apps in exchange. You can turn it off by going to My Data under Settings.
Ongoing ambience on Headspace would be nice. I use a Bluetooth headband and another app for ambient noise. The free version of Relax Melodies (iOS) (Android) has been working for me the last two years since I only use a couple different sounds. Figured I'd share in case you wanted a workaround option. You can combine sounds, customize them and save options, set timers, etc.
Happy 💤
Found the link through their Instagram. It seems 58$ is the offer. I bought it for 44€ so quite similar I think!
If you go to headspace.com on your computer or your phone, it should show up. I have the direct link to the summer promotion here: https://www.headspace.com/buy/summer You'll get 40% off for a annual subscription. The offer is not available to current subscribers.

Sorry for the late reply to this.
I've had the same question myself over time. I emailed Headspace about it and here's the answer.
"That's a great question, and I am more than happy to help clarify. The Resting Awareness technique is what takes place between the moments between when we come back to the breath. As you'll recall, Andy asks us to return to the breath when we've gotten caught up in thinking. Once we return to the breath, then we can return to Resting Awareness.
This article provides a very helpful analogy: https://www.headspace.com/blog/2015/12/29/what-does-awareness-mean/"
Honestly, as good an explanation as this is, I think the resting awareness technique is quite poorly integrated into the Pro packs (especially for an app that is usually so clear), and this is an area that could definitely use some refinement and further explanation.
Until then, this may help.
But yeah. All the Pro packs need are a clarification at the start that this is what we're supposed to be doing. I'm very surprised this was skipped out.
Headspace operates in a different way to other apps - it doesn't ask for permissions from the system like other apps sometimes do, so without those, it can't prioritize itself to keep itself awake.
I've had similar issues with notifications - I'll be in a sit and I get text sounds etc.. When I use my favorite timer "Meditation Assistant", it mutes all my system sounds, and it stays awake, on 30+ minute sits, there's no issue.
I've logged tickets with support but they don't seem interested in adding this sort of internal DND, nor adding system permissions.. The only work around is to use a "keep awake" utility, and plug your phone into the wall so it stays charged.
I own a lifetime membership. I stopped using it in under a year and now use a simple timer, meditation assistant
I find that once I got into regular practice, Andy's voice was a distraction. He kept pulling me out of my meditative state and it was frustrating.
I do some of the packs occasionally while driving, but silent meditation had replaced everything else
The "thing" with meditation is that there really isn't any goal or benefit. You sit to sit. That's pretty much it. Now, you can get better at it, so you could say that the brain is like a muscle.. the more you practice, the better you get at silencing your brain - this is "end state" (unless you believe in enlightenment, but personally I believe that is is similar to being able to live in that "silent brain" state all the time, regardless of what you're doing, or be able to return to it consciously without effort.)
I have a lifetime membership to HeadSpace, but I don't use it for any of my daily practice, I use it for the various packs.
For daily sits, I find that I'm basically waiting for Andy to stop prattling on, then I get into the zone once he's silent.. furthermore I find that he always pulls me back into the present when I am in the deepest state of meditation - try sitting without anything. I adore Meditation Assistant for Android, as it lets me set timers using bells/tinsha, and auto silences my device for the duration. Link is for the full version but there's a free one too.
I cycle through my senses - I like burning incense when I sit, so that's my gateway into my cycle. From there I focus on my weight on the zafu, then move to my hearing, listening to the world around me.. and this leads to listening my breath in and out... I start to "feel" that breath inside my throat, my lungs.. and that's when counting breaths starts... then, if I'm lucky and my mind quiets down, the counting stops and I just.. am. And I'm not. It's not easy to explain, but I think that's the point :)
Hey I've been in a similar situation before and I highly recommend you give this article by Andy a read.
For me, I'd been so fixated on the streak and number that I lost my real intention - the practice. So when my 320 day streak finished, I chose to just let go of those initial overwhelming feelings, accept, and just start another practice.
And it was such a liberating feeling.
I felt my practice was no longer tied to this number. I knew that when I choose to meditate, it is for the meditation I enjoy, and that was my true intention with this.
I appreciated this blog when I had the same question https://www.headspace.com/blog/2018/11/27/after-headspace-basics/#technique
For the future, you can cancel your App Store trials early and still keep using the trial until it runs out!
Also, Headspace has a special student rate of $10 a year, but you have to get it direct from them and not through the App Store. https://www.headspace.com/studentplan. Doesn’t help you at this moment, but maybe if Apple refunds you, you can sign up for this instead
Skillful compassion is used in Kindness and Pregnancy according to this https://www.headspace.com/blog/2018/11/27/after-headspace-basics/ You could also type skilfull compassion in to the search box.
Question technique - I'm not sure, sorry.
Hi there!
A great way to ensure consistency with meditation is by making your own daily meditation routine. Eventually, it will just become part of your daily life, just like brushing your teeth or making coffee every morning. Here are some tips for getting started!
Hope this helps! Happy meditating :)
The Headspace Team
Headspace has some helpful suggestions for that.
Personally I like to meditate with a pack in the morning and a single session in the evening.
I finished the Managing Anxiety course a few days ago and it is a really good course. I really liked Andy's advice at the beginning of it. And I also want to move up to 20 minutes, but I did 20 minutes once and I'm not sure I'm ready yet, so I'll wait a little bit more.
Andy has a really good advice about that on his blog, actually: https://www.headspace.com/blog/2017/05/29/right-amount-meditation/ I would blame myself for not meditating for 20 minutes but after I read this I stopped feeling bad about it!
Mindfulness is the ability to be present, to rest in the here and now, fully engaged with whatever we’re doing in the moment. It’s not a temporary state of mind that is present during meditation and then vanishes for the rest of the day. Rather, mindfulness is a way of living in which — when we remember — we are able to step back and be in the present moment in any situation.
Meditation is the training ground for learning mindfulness. At first, we meditate to become familiar with the here and now for a limited period of time. Over time, however, regularly practicing mindfulness helps us develop the ability to be present throughout the day, every day.
Hope this helps! Happy meditating :)

Hi!
Although meditation can be beneficial at any hour of the day, many people find morning to be the best time to meditate because it’s typically the part of the day with the least distractions. By doing it first thing, you ensure that it actually happens; when you put it off, it may become easier to bump it off your to-do list as the day progresses and gets increasingly more hectic.
Of course, meditating in the morning may not work for everyone. If that’s the case for you, that’s okay — the best time to meditate is whenever you can prioritize it!
We actually have an entire article about this on our website that I would recommend checking out : https://www.headspace.com/meditation/best-time-to-meditate
Hope this helps! Happy meditating :)

I loved the laundromat one except that the high pitched noise always wakes me up so I gave up after two nights. I would love to have a running dishwasher one, a sort of mechanical rhythmic motor/sloshing water sound. mynoise.net used to have a laundromat noise similar to this but I can't find it anymore.
Wow! I'm happy to paste the whole chat here.
from you: Hi whats ur offer for lifetime acc? from me: I don't know how much would be a fair price tbh. What would you like? from you: offers from me: How's 300 from you: Thats sounds good. what payment method you got? Paypal BTC? if btc i can do 250 from me: I can do Paypal. I don't have BTC anymore! If you're worried about chargebacks or that type of crap, I could do Venmo or Cashapp. Wdy preffer? from you: your cashapp is verified? If your cashapp is verified you can buy BTC on cashapp
Later you reached out to me in chat: - asked me to answer faster (I was at work) - I asked: "Can you show me proof of you having the lifetime account." - You referred to accounts on Steamtrades and Localcoinswap (https://www.steamtrades.com/trade/bGXwQ/h-games-leftovers-w-games-i-dont-own-last-update-feb19 and https://localcoinswap.com/profile/Cityofthewind/). (I also note you've been blocked by 17 traders there)
You never provided any proof you have the account. Also, neither of the accounts you linked share your reddit user name, or any name in common. You reddit username is a bunch of random characters, and has only been active for a few days.
I ended the discussion by saying: "Sorry I'm going to pass. Not used to this kind of trade, but I think dealing in pm + not having any protection is beyond my comfort zone. ty for your time".
Clearly, I was not comfortable with the lack of proof, I didn't feel comfortable being shown a bunch of random nicknames, making a deal in pm rather than in the open. I also offered to pay you with payment methods that can't be revoked (Venmo, Cashapp).
I encourage others to think about whether this exchange looked trustworthy. I find your attempt at discrediting me here really poor, and I'm reassured I didn't just send some stranger money.
I used headspace for a month in November and December. I havnt been on since December when I switched to calm. I had some issues with headspace not working right (this could be fixed by now) so I switched. I miss Andy's voice, but compared to Nov. 2018 headspace I think calm is a better app. They give you 5 guest passes. https://www.calm.com/gp/mgvn4b. <------ link to you and anyone else who wants the guest passes. Meditation changed my life. I wish you the best.
Ah, I see! I think I understand now.
So the underlying sense is referring to the underlying sense of the negative feeling, not the positive feeling from the visualization. The phrase is “we’re in danger of being overwhelmed by the feeling of what the underlying sense is.” So let’s say you have an underlying sense of anxiety in life, and it pops up during meditation. The feeling, or sensation, you might experience in that moment could be something like physical pain, your heart beating out of your chest, nausea, restlessness, etc. You’re in danger of being overwhelmed by those feelings caused by anxiety (the underlying sense). But once you realize what it is you’re experiencing in that moment, then THAT is what “allows you to see the emotion more clearly and let go of it.”
I did a quick search and found this post on the Headspace blog that might help shed some light on this. It most definitely is clearer in the explanation in the meditation itself (which for sure was a bit clunky—too much use of the word “feeling” without clarifying which feeling they were referring to) https://www.headspace.com/blog/2017/04/13/anxious-meditation/
Could you please provide a direct link to the page that states this? I'm still seeing the same old restrictions on their site:
FAQ:
> The Headspace Family plan is for anyone in your chosen family. When you sign up, you and the rest of your group just need to enter the same physical address as proof.
> (a) Primary account holders shall be responsible for making payments towards the Headspace Family plan, and will be able to invite up to five (5) additional members to join their Headspace Family plan. Those additional family members must share a mailing address with the primary account holder.
I know. It stinks. I listen to this all of the time, but now it's gone. Makes me mad that I didn't sign up when it was forty percent off. Hopefully that comes back soon. If you go here, https://www.headspace.com/sleep/sleepcasts , you can listen to Night Town which is a pretty good one. I do this now, since the stories play even when I shut my (Android) phone screen off.
Hey no worries I’m also quite new to this. I’ve just checked the official help section from Headspace and this is what they say:
On your desktop or mobile browser (not the mobile app), go to this link https://www.headspace.com/subscription/manage and log into your account.
This should show you the start and end date of the subscription. Normally free codes will auto renew by default so always remember to check.
There should be a button where you can click to turn off auto renewal. That was what I did the last time. You can and should always cancel it immediately after claiming free codes so you don’t miss it. The subscription will stay until the end of the free period.
But this time there’s no option for me to click so what Headspace suggest is to send an email to and they will help. I just did that and waiting to hear from them within the next few days.
Hope this helps!
>ponder on a question while meditating
Some packs do use this technique, in the app it is called Reflection. The relevant courses are Appreciation, Acceptance, and Sport Motivation.
Source and info about other techniques and courses which use them: https://www.headspace.com/blog/2018/11/27/after-headspace-basics/#technique
Ah! Hello fellow sufferer - DARE is basically an approach based on radical acceptance and exposure techniques. There's an ebook I've yet to read but I use the app. There's premium content, but I use the free version which has lots of good stuff. When I have a panic attack I use the SOS guided session on the app and there's also lots of audio courses that have helped me be more at peace with my anxiety. It's worth a shot if you're struggling.
Android link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ie.armour.dare2
If you have an iPhone, it's just called Dare and the icon is a human figure mid-air
I have these ones - very comfortable and decent sound. Only issue is that there's a blue light that flashes when connected to bluetooth - which was well annoying, but moving the central unit up a millimetre or so means the light is covered and it doesn't disturb me anymore.
I've used bluetooth earbuds, in the ear headphones and over the ear headphones and the headband ones are by far the most comfortable to fall asleep wearing. A gamechanger, truly.
I have this headband headphone. It is cheap but surprisingly high quality sound. I have had it for a year now and works perfectly.
I have a sleep mask with headphones in the band and I love it for nights my husband doesn’t want to hear my Sleepcasts. I sleep with a mask most nights anyway because I like total darkness, but if masks are not your think look for ‘sleep phones’ which are just flat speakers in a headband meant for exactly this.
First, check with your husband to see if he cares at the volume you’d play the sleepcast at. Mine honestly doesn’t. That said, if you want to make the sound louder for you and quieter for him, I use these headphones (or something like them... there are a bunch that all look about the same). The headphones last for several weeks between charges.
If you want/need verbal guidance through each one, then Calm has a number of different options.
But I suggest just learning how to meditate without that and get a good meditation timer. I've been using Meditation Assistant for years (this is an android app, and the link is to the free version) but it's very dependable and well made
I did found a new app ! I really liked the variaty of sounds and different frequiences... I hope they add a timer, too. Great app!
Also, in general, if you want to batch your notifications so that you won't get distracted in a day, you can try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.synapse.alarm.daywise
