It might be kind of fun to start shipping hemp products to our lawmakers. As an example, Costco has sold this product in the Treasure Valley for nearly three years:
If you look at the Gasbuddy Gas Price Heatmap, you'll see prices are low in the Heartland, increasing toward the coasts.
My best guess is that the high-producing refineries—as well as ports for receiving international oil—are in the Gulf Coast area, so prices are low there, but the cost of shipping/trucking the oil farther from these locations raises the price of gas. Also, while there are refineries in nearby California and Washington, these most likely operate using domestic oil, which is at a higher price—due to overhead. labor and other factors—than the deflated prices of OPEC crude. These factors combine to leave Idaho in a middle position price-wise (lower than California, Alaska and parts of Washington).
On the bottom half of the state: Hike the Pettit and Toxaway Lakes loop in the Sawtooths: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/idaho/pettit-and-taxaway-lakes-loop
Stay in Stanley if you want a cheeper place to stay (other than camping).
Visit a developed hotspring in Idaho City (The Springs) or ones near McCall Idaho. Go zip lining at Tamarack or Horseshoe bend.
Go wildwater rafting on the Payette river.
Anyone on the fence between the 2 should listen to this episode of the podcast The Dollop. Biden is either too weak to compete with Trump, or a complete piece of shit.
"If California is so great and all that then why are you in Idaho?" I'm not. I just came to this thread to understand how a woman who doxed a rape victim gets money from you people. I'm studying the upcoming Fiscal Civil War and I find your species fascinating.
"Lol you think your doing us favors by being here?" Yeah... You really should work on welfare ass who assumes facts not in evidence.
"I like living in my comfy mountain hamlet" Of course you do. CA taxpayers fund your lifestyle. You should be comfortable.
"Lmao yeah because Inner city blacks and Hispanics are so successful" They are. Jose Hernandez's parents were migrant farm workers. He is first generation US citizen and spent his summers working in the fields and studying. He became an astronaut with NASA. Oakland CA sends more of its students to four year universities than any district in Idaho. You people are disgusting and lazy. You breed racists. The HBCUs are kicking Liberty University every damned day.
"The only reason you white liberal suburb dwellers are successful is because you leech off everyone else" ACTUALLY, we pay a higher rate of federal taxes than you and get less back from the federal government. You rural folks are the WELFARE QUEENS of the planet. Suck it up, buttercup.
"You and your idiotic theories will never contribute anything to society" OK. So you won't be at all worried about my novel series illustrating how conservative white women promote fascism. If you know your history, you know a novel helped spark the FIRST civil war. And b/c you people refuse to MAN UP and fix yourselves, the second civil war is right around the corner. https://www.amazon.com/Songs-Confederate-Raven-Kathleen-Thomas-ebook/dp/B08M8P8N3S/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=songs+of+a+confederate+raven&qid=1619908351&sr=8-1
Go to the monastery in cottonwood... Those nuns are literally local historians, and have written several comprehensive books on the history of idaho county. https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-Days-Idaho-County-One/dp/B001E3G16E
Two things:
On initially reading your first sentence I thought that someone literally signed up their cat for Secret Santa. Because this is reddit and that just does not seem that out of the ordinary. I'm actually still not sure...
Tell me more about these potatoes covered in Brisket and BBQ sauce because that sounds amazing. Do you also cook the potatoes on the grill/smoker? No one else I know cooks potatoes on the grill but they are the best (and maybe I just don't know the right people).
To your actual question my only suggestion is something I noticed in Costco today: Idaho The Movie 2. It's available on Amazon though at quite a premium (I think it was $20 or less at Costco).
Anything Worth Doing. A great story about running the Middle Fork Salmon River in a wooden dory at raging high levels in 1996. For those of us who love the wild rivers of Idaho, it's a must read book.
Big Trouble: A Murder in a Small Western Town Sets Off a Struggle for the Soul of America
The last book by Pulitzer winning J. Anthony Lukas. Idaho's former governor, Frank Steunenberg, was assassinated in 1905 as part of the growing rift between labor and mining companies. This book details the broad national reach of that struggle. One of the few books I've read twice.
I recognize some books on that list. I’ve been reading this one with my teenage daughter. It isn’t at all inappropriate 🙄
It's a common mistake by non-Idahoans to call Idaho, Iowa.
I don't know why. Here's the t-shirt: https://www.amazon.com/Idaho-Iowa-Funny-Geography-T-Shirt/dp/B07DT8YSVH.
Great! I recently bought this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DVF9LKG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Not too hard to set up and the picture quality has been decent. If you want location and speed data recorded with it, you'll need to buy the GPS attachment. Don't forget to buy a good-sized MicroSD card with it.
I had this exact same issue, with a '98 Jeep Cherokee, literally just earlier today.
I'm just going to do some of this heavy duty automotive tape. As long as you have a heat gun to take it off, it'll come off cleanly, but it's super duper heavy duty and there's not much risk of it failing due to heat or moisture. It's the same kind of stuff they use on outdoor signage and the like. If you're worried about the tape failing, you could always just secure one hole of the plate to your bumper with a wire in addition to the tape just in case.
EDIT: Link to the tape - https://www.amazon.com/Double-Sided-Tape-Industrial-Automotive/dp/B09CBYJJXP/
>White supremacy, rape, and sexual servitude is what you want to rely on the school for?
Absolutely. We know white supremacist parents are going to lie and indoctrinate their children at home and plenty of well-meaning parents don't have strong academic backgrounds to begin with. Education also needs to happen at the home but I know plenty of parents that fail miserably at that task (I would argue the majority do), so ultimately you are making an appeal for ignorance.
What you folks don't seem to realize is that the right to education isn't for the parents, its for the children who are not just little slaves to every whim of the people that happened to have them. Educated is a great book about this, written by an Idaho author, if you ever bother to read this would be a decent place to start.

Have you tried one of those flat wall antennas? I have one like this, and it works like a champ. How it's positioned on the wall and which wall matters biggly.
This winter hasn't even been that bad IMO. At least in the Treasure Valley. Remember in 2013 when we had a month-long inversion? No sun, sub-freezing temps, and ice everywhere for the whole month of January. Absolute misery.
And then there was snowpocalypse a couple of years back, which my bushes are still trying to recover from after getting flattened out from so much snow...
I’ve heard the Titus Lake trail is nice hike north of Ketchum, ends at an alpine lake.
This link mentions there was some snow on the trail a few days ago so I don’t know if it’s dry yet.
Here’s a link to Weather Underground’s historical information for the area; it’s what I’ve been using for my upcoming wedding October 6!
I'd also recommend doing Wind Cave in Darby Canyon if you get the chance. Table Mountain is also nearby that area, though not in Idaho. It's completely non-technical and has incredible views of the Tetons from the top.
For your longer hike I'd look for something in the Sawtooths, Toxoway Loop is beautiful but maybe a bit short, there are plenty of others.
Ocean? Seattle? Seattle isn't near an ocean.
The Pacific at Ocean City, Washington is 2 h 18 min or 131 miles from Seattle. Alternatively, Westport, Washington is 2 h 13 min or 129 miles from Seattle. Waatch, Washington is 4 h 6 min or 155 miles away.
Coeur d'Alene is 6 h 59 min or 422 miles to Ocean Shores, Washington. Boise is 8 h 53 min or 494 miles to Newport, Oregon, and 8 h 21 min or 519 miles to Astoria, Oregon.
So Coeur d'Alene cuts out an hour and 21 minutes to the beach. But the weather is crappier in Coeur d'Alene compared to Boise.
Also, if the beach is your thing, there are between 3 to 5 non-stop flights from Boise to LAX daily priced around $250. But why not live at the beach and visit either Coeur d'Alene or Boise?
Or why not live in the Tri-Cities? You would be five hours to the beach, five hours to Boise, 3 hours to Coeur d'Alene and 3 and half hours to either Seattle or Portland. The weather is about the same in the Tri-Cities as in Boise.
If you're ever between Challis and Salmon check out Goldbug . 3.5 mi. hike, great pools and area, generally low traffic as well.
La Grande OR to Enterprise OR and then N on HWY 3, is gorgeous!
Then take HWY 12 from Lewiston to MT, the Clearwater/Lochsa rivers are gorgeous and there are hot springs right off the road that are pretty nice.
If you have the right kind of car/truck and feeling adventurous try the MacGruder corridor road. I've been on maybe a 1/4 of it, amazing! http://www.everytrail.com/guide/magruder-corridor-guide
Sounds like an awesome road trip!
There is even a fictional book written about the Sandpoint area called Blue Heaven. Although, some claim there are some facts in the book, it is a work of fiction. But it was written because of all the retired cops moving there.
Holy shit fairbanks.
Maybe get one of these maps too.
Hey as someone who rolls my ankles all the time, I recommend buying a brace.
Med Spec ASO Ankle Stabilizer https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00TZTO0VM
I’ve had this one for years and it makes such a massive difference. Once I rolled my ankle walking down a flight of stairs while carrying two children. Hurt so bad I was in shock, this thing solved the problem almost instantly.
"You have no future in mind." Yes I do. My entire novel series is based on it. https://www.amazon.com/Songs-Confederate-Raven-Kathleen-Thomas-ebook/dp/B08M8P8N3S/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=songs+of+a+confederate+raven&qid=1619908351&sr=8-1
Cool. Thanks for that.

A meteorologist friend suggested this app. Otherwise if you don't want to pay $10 the free Weather Channel app is great for basic radar imagery and warnings.

I read this after I moved here. Ib liked the writing and detail level. Arrington is a great historian. My local library had it. https://www.amazon.com/History-Idaho-Leonard-J-Arrington/dp/0893011762
In Mountain Shadows written by a former U of I professor. He taught some great ID and Pacific NW history classes back in (my) the day.
