This title and thread was so confusing to me.
He announced the book on purpose. The book is a collection of Trump quotes compiled by the Late Show staff, leading to the book being billed as "by Donald J. Trump (by accident)":
We'll obviously find out more when the show airs 20 mins from now, but according to Twitter Stephen broke the news about Paris to the audience partway through the taping (their phones would've been off when word spread). Sounds like they threw out the monologue they recorded and redid it at the end of the taping to acknowledge what happened. Source: https://twitter.com/erinchack/status/665361413452492800

Edit 2: Hmm, guess not!
she is able to cut through all the noise and observe the current political and foreign policy landscape with more clarity than anyone running the White House currently. much respect for her.
when she recaps about the Obama administration getting cockblocked by the Congress it reminds me of the Netflix documentary The Final Year that details Obama's foreign policy team's work throughout the years. when you look into how much effort Samantha Powers, Ben Rhodes, John Kerry and Obama himself put into it to try to make it work, the final scenes of them coming to terms that Trump was getting elected and they realized that whatever that they've built are all going to be dismantled, that was one of the most heartbreaking things I've ever seen. what's worse is this is real life, not fiction.
I was actually surprised I had it, but pleasantly. I use YouTube TV, and record that show every night (though I seldom watch it, and when I do, it's usually a clip on regular YouTube or something).
I knew they only retain recorded programs for 9 months, but I assumed there would be some fairly low number of retained episodes of a show, particularly a daily show. Nice to see that they retain those shows for 9 months also.
King wrote a great book called On Writing which is half autobio, half tips & tricks for writing fiction. In the autobio section he told a story about his eighth grade self selling stories at school, quarter a piece.
Very true. I'm being selfish in my wailing, sometimes you just need to shout into the Horn of Eternal Dusk!
It's already been posted and I suspect there is some Reddiquette on how to point to prior posts, but since I'm such a newbie I'll break protocol:
This interview of Stephen with THR was awesome and a good balm to get through the show's absence - https://player.fm/series/awards-chatter-1401973/stephen-colbert-the-late-show-with-stephen-colbert
Not sure I would call Robert Smigel a comedian. IMDB says he's a writer and a producer. He's definitely written lots of funny stuff. He directed and co-wrote The Week Of (2018) which, I assume, he is on the show to promote.
Edit: OK, Colbert just cut to commercial with, "We'll be right back with comedian Robert Smigel" so clearly I am wrong.
It looks like you might have already had the chance to get this from someone else but if not and if this is the episode you are looking for then I have it. If not then I also probably have it.
Really hope they work on improving their music guests. That Lizzo garbage they had on last nights rerun was quite possible the worst thing on broadcast television for all of 2015. And that is just one of many terrible "music" guests he has had on so far this year.
Also, his rapport with Jon Batiste seems forced. They have zero chemistry. Every conversation they have is awkward and ends up with a goofy grin on Jon's face. It's cringe worthy. I think it would be a good idea to get a new band leader.
Look at this "performance" from last night. Seriously, how does this get on TV?

I basically followed this manual: https://unlocator.com/channel/showtime/
Seems to work just fine. The only thing I'm missing is an alarm for 4:45 AM German time
