it's a rule that was made to discourage people from selling their securities at a loss to claim tax benefit.

check out upwork.com or through agencies like capgemini or amk technology. they can connect u to clients. open a profile on monster.com, recruiters there are super active esp in IT field. there are a lot of start-ups who look for freelance/contract ppl.
best to job hop and get a comfortable salary/increment, to move around when you don't have wife/kids cuz once you're committed, you'll end up in a dead-end job that u can't leave cuz u need the money and increment is meh. good luck!
Using Promotions to Save a Quick Buck
I am a university student in Kuala Lumpur and like any other university student, we are pretty much broke. I have been relying on monthly pocket money from PTPTN every month and with all the prices going up it has been really hard to manage my money for all the expenses. I want to go out partying sometimes and still live within means as well but it has been really hard. One way that I have found to be useful that has been mentioned very less is making use of promotions and sales that happen around us. I mostly try to find deals when buying food or clothes or even doing something fun. It has helped me tremendously in saving a quick buck here and there and even letting me try new shops which had promotions.
That is when it dawned on me how hard it is to find promotions and sales near me. Being an IT student, I pondered on this problem for some time on how to solve it. After a year of hard work, I have finally built an app that shows promotions and sales around me. The app has many features like saving promotions that you like and setting reminders on promotions a day before the deadline. The app also provides clear-cut steps to redeem promotions as well.
I have put it up on the google play store to share this platform with everyone else to get deals around them and make use of it. The link for this app is below:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hustle.thrift7
P.S this platform only works in Malaysia for now. I hope to get feedback from any users who are willing to test out the app and give feedback. Anybody who wants to find promotions and deals around them are welcome to test this app out.
I did the same.
Used to work at Facebook as a SWE, came back late 2017.
If you are looking for a job at a Series B company with a bunch of ex-FAANGs as an IC or EM, hit me up, or if you just wanna talk.
Glad to help navigate what it's like moving back and the differences between US and SEA.
As other said, dont come back for money. Find other reasons to come back. Family, to make a difference, etc.
Use Transferwise (Wise). I'm also a Webull user and here's how I do it 1. Create ur US account with Wise 2. Deposit like 20-30usd into ur US account using Malaysia bank. 3. Setup ACH transfer of ur Wise US account in Webull (u need that small amount just deposited) 4. Wait for few days normally a week for Webull to complete the verification 5. Once completed, u can continue to fund ur Webull using ACH transfer (total fees should only be from Wise and around 0.45%) 6. Happy going red 😊
Here's my invitation link if u need it https://wise.com/invite/ata/kokl376
Wise is great.
No limit of transfer if into a Malaysian account bank (for Malaysian citizen). There used to be a limit of rm10k if transferring money to non- Malaysian resident. Not sure now.
Can do it batch by batch if not confident in transferring a large sum at once. The fee is among the lowest side when compared to other money transfer service and very secure too.
By all means, check out its FAQ and the website.

It's super fast, good and licensed by BNM. They offer multi-currency account to manage all your money. I use it all the time to purchase SGD and USD. https://wise.com/invite/ath/kianw54 you can use this link and get fee discount for the first purchase/transfer.
According to Etoro: https://www.etoro.com/customer-service/help/1430804/what-do-i-purchase-when-i-open-a-position-on-etoro/, you are buying into the underlying asset if your position is non-levaraged.
Using u/0x000014 example, Etoro will provide a better conversion rate. Based on RM3000, the amount you'll receive in USD is, you are buying into the underlying asset if your position is non-leveraged. s e.g. 3.15 (this is also the number of shares of QQQ that you'll be able to purchase using $738 / $234.64).
Open Wise account. Use my referral. hehe. https://wise.com/invite/u/lingl187 Open CIMB or Maybank Singapore account. Open Interactive Broker account.
Use malaysia bank to use wise to fund your singapore account to fund Interactive Broker to convert into USD.
Or use malaysia bank to use wise to fund Interactive Broker in GBP. Apparently using wise to directly fund in USD will cause issues with money laundering checks.
Keep your savings and every 2-3 months buy US index ETF or World index ETF domiciled in Ireland to reduce withholding tax.
Stock picking is gambling unless you do hours and hours of research weekly which you can't.
ETF ISAC on LSE in USD = World index ireland domicile by ishares SSAC on LSE in GBP = World index ireland domicile by ishares VWRD on LSE in USD = World index ireland dom by vanguard VWRL on LSE in GBP = World index ireland dom by vanguard
Transferwise is the cheapest and safest (Approved by Gov so it’s safe as well). You can try checking with others like bigpay but I’ve tried and still transferwise is the cheapest.
If it’s your first transfer you can get RM2500 transferred for free as well hehe, just use my referral: https://wise.com/invite/i/jinc227
TransferWise disallows people from Malaysia to open a US borderless account

Hey OP check out Versa Saw a few posts in fb regarding this app. Similar to StashAway Simple but 1 day withdrawal!
But put your money at your own risk. Do be reminded that both StashAway Simple and Versa are not PIDM protected, so don't go ahead and put all your savings inside.
You probably meant this

I've used this for almost 3 years to jot down where my money come and go. Plus, freedom to add as many of your account (be it your wallet, investment or savings under your bed) and also to manually add unlimited types of transactions is a bonus.
Actually Maybank's trade app frequently experience technical difficulties like crashes, inability to login in, orders getting bugged etc. (At least more than other platforms) This has been worsening recently. Definitely won't recommend it, the others has mentioned many alternatives that also comes with low transaction costs.
The app reviews speaks for itself. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mbb.mketrade&hl=en
