You and your gf read this book and work on the relationship together:
Headspace was remarkably helpful for me -- some of the visualizations carry with me. Did you watch all the videos? Did you practice it daily?
What kind of "progress" are you hoping for? The simplest meditation is where you just sit still and breath, letting the thoughts come and go as they will and returning your attention to your breath. You can accompany it with a visualization of your choosing -- surrounding yourself in a white light and filling your body with a golden light eminating from your heart center for example.
This takes time. The visualizations in the beginning are faint / fleeting, and the focus keeps shifting. Just keep returning to your zafu once or twice daily. Keep breathing.
I also <3 Zazen meditation timer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.gaffga.android.zazentimer -- you can set your own times and the sound it makes is very soothing. It also does not require any fancy permissions + it is free :)
