Most people do it at the Secretary of State. If you have a driver's license you are automatically enrolled to vote but not for a Party. However Michigan has same day registration for Party Primary voting so if you wanna save yourself a trip to the SoS (Which you can get in line ahead of time by downloading the QLess app) you can wait until the day of voting.
LOL. Did you read the article? Or just the headline? Good lord.
This article is about federal government, not state government, but it still doesn't qualify based on the headline, which is clickbait.
>"Increase the top marginal income tax rate from 37 percent to 39.6 percent."
This affects only the very top income earners. It doesn't affect the middle class in any way.
>Increase the corporate income tax rate from 21 percent to 25 percent.
Considering it was just dropped from 35 to 21 percent, and that was SUPPOSED to increase wages (spoiler alert: It didn't. The companies all just gave big windfalls to shareholders and a few tiny bonuses here and there). Raising it 4% will have no effect on the middle class any more than lowering it 14% did last year.
> Bring back the alternative minimum tax (AMT) for 4 million families.
This is misleading at best. The AMT affected the very upper echelon of "middle class" and the AMT was never actually taken away.
https://www.fool.com/taxes/2018/03/31/the-5-top-trump-tax-cuts-democrats-want-to-take-ba.aspx
The change will expose more well-off people to the potential of the AMT. Unless you're in that upper echelon, you're unaffected, and if you are, you can probably afford to pay a little more to fund our infrastructure that you complain about. We all complain about it.
> Cut the "death tax" standard deduction in half.
This is another dog-whistle. The so-called "death tax" affects rich people. It doesn't affect the poor or the middle class.

Should have read the article.
Finishing my 2nd book. It was a complete grind because writer's block hit me in the middle of the pandemic. It ended up taking me 11 months to finish and I am extremely proud of the result. Can't wait to get out there and do some book signings again.
I think a lot of creatives and artists are really struggling right now, mostly because it's impossible to find external inspiration in such a bleak time.

Kind of looks like Fisherman's Island State Park in Charlevoix.

The softest, whitest beach I have been to thus far was in Frankfort, Mi. Really great little town with a fantastic beach. Not far from Sleeping Bear Dunes.
I have no information, but it may help others to know from where in Michigan she was planning to depart to Beaver Island. I'm surprised Row4ROW didn't bother mentioning any details of the location of the assault.
I'm sworn to secrecy on the best spot, but I like these, too. The 3 sites furthest west are all within the Porcupine Mts. Wilderness State Park. Only Presque Isle Campground is drive-up camping. I don't know what you're looking for. Anyway, you're hiking in at least a mile to the other sites in the Porkies. White Deer Lake (easternmost point), is accessible by a 3 mile hike. You can park your vehicle on your campsite at the rest of the marked points. I'd recommend a 4x4 vehicle if you want to camp at High Rock Bay (tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula).
Depending on how far into Michigan you want to go, the Orpheum Theater/Studio Pizza in Hancock, MI is a great venue. Though it would be a pretty long trip but very much worth it.
Ope, well in that case, let's just write off the whole thing as bunk...
"Agoraphobia (ag-uh-ruh-FOE-be-uh) is a type of anxiety disorder in which you fear and avoid places or situations that might cause you to panic and make you feel trapped, helpless or embarrassed. You fear an actual or anticipated situation, such as using public transportation, being in open or enclosed spaces, standing in line, or being in a crowd." Source
Maybe you've got it confused with Arachnophobia?
>So this is wrong? https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/democracy Definition of democracy 1 a : government by the people; especially : rule of the majority
Did you miss the part where our President elect lost the popular vote? Literally by millions? That means the majority of people didn't vote for him. Hence: not a democracy. It's pretty simple.
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/United%20States%20of%20America
>Definition of United States of America
>country North America bordering on Atlantic, Pacific, & Arctic oceans; a federal republic
Don't try to blur the lines between Democracy and Republic. Democracy is ruled by a mob whereas a Republic is ruled by law. There are very bold lines separating these governments. When Benjamin Franklin exited the constitutional convention he was asked by a woman, "Sir, what have you given us?" to which he responded "A Republic Ma'am, if you can keep it". Understand there is a stark difference.
> It looks like downtown Detroit is still booming with modern infrastructure
If this was taken recently, it's because they recently redid the entire city lighting infrastructure with LED lamps as part of a large downtown revitalization project that's been going on for the last few years.
Here's a nice article on the lighting project.
You don't have to look to far back examples of why this is so important. In the 50's and 60's, a civil rights speaker would be considered disruptive and a risk for violence. If we applied that standard then and silenced those groups we would have never made the progress over the past 50 years that we have made. Once we start silencing people that we disagree with we lose the ability to grow as a society. Although I find Spencer's words repugnant, I fully support his right to speak them. The same as I fully support the right of others to peacefully protest him.
You can fix racism by burying it or silencing it, hate grows very well in the darkness and shadows, it dies when exposed to the light. Remember the story of Daryl Davis
That's how you fix racism, one person at a time, one step at a time.
>Yes every March... we get 1 week of beautiful sunny warm 70-80 degrees of bliss thinking that spring is here...
That's what people think happened in March, when they reflect upon it in January of the following year. In fact, March is almost always pretty terrible. The high temperature in March 2019 was 67 (for one day, very late in the year), and March 2018 didn't get out of the 50s (and barely got out of the 40s).
Actually i'm a graphic designer with 10+ years experience designing for brand, UI, and UX.
I could offer a more formal critique but there's isn't much here to critique. It's uninspired and poorly executed, nor does it imply any inherent creative talent on behalf of the OP.
OP literally took a freely available graphic of the state of Michigan and superimposed a bunch of crappy typefaces over the top of it, and not in an elegant way. He didn't illustrate it using handwritten typography, or add any illustrative or personal creative flourishes to the design to enhance it. It's just a stock vector with some crappy stock typefaces.
I suppose the OP gets a brownie point for trying? Even then i'd be hard pressed to congratulate their efforts. This is the kind of thing that kids just learning photoshop, with no background or education in graphic arts, tend to do.
So no, I won't applaud the OPs efforts. And honestly they need to get this type of feedback in order to grow. If OP wants to do this type of work they need to get busy because they have a ton to learn and a lot of skills they need to acquire and grow.
For example, why would I choose to use OPs design over something a designer like Neil Tasker would create? Look at the extremely high level of execution he gives to his ideas. Not only are his ideas interesting, but he adds personal touches to each piece to really make them compelling. The bar is high for design and OP has a lot of competition.
I don't hate you OP, but good luck.
That looks great! I've been playing with string art and doing Michigan lower peninsula's silhouette to give to UM grads. Here's a link

I recently rediscovered a web site that compared weather averages between cities. You weren't kidding about "gates of hell".
Actually, the opposite was expected. Initially forecasters were predicting a strong La Nina, which would mean more precip than usual and a generally brutal winter here.
https://weather.com/news/climate/news/la-nina-noaa-update-november
That prediction kind of faded by late December. Now from last I read, we're more in a neutral faze/weak La Nina. Definitely not El Nino.
Wow impressive!!!

Ah well then I am not going to be any help. Most rental homes here at $1000-1500 dollars a week, and a lot of places won't give you less time than that. I'm not too up on what is on AirBNB, or how prices change outside of peak season (i.e. right now). Most rentals are >300$ a night, so my family couldn't really ever consider (nor can I now.)
If you're into camping the D.H. Day campground just out of Glen Arbor is really greatest.

If minimum wage increases had kept pace with CEO pay increases for the last thirty years, minimum wage would now be $21 and change per hour. Instead, wages have stagnated to the point that they are now equivalent to what they were in 1974.
Artificially low wages are relevant to me. They are relevant to all of us. If the minimum wage is high enough for people to be able to actually provide for themselves, less money is spent on food stamps and other social programs, thereby leaving more resources for people who truly need them instead of allowing the 1% to double-dip.
It's called living in a society. Maybe you should try it.
You HAVE to go to Twin Falls Plant Preserve. It isn’t overrun with tourists and is the ultimate hidden gem!! It’s located in Munising, and is a very short hike in and out to two separate waterfalls, each of which you can climb down and inside the basins to get under/behind the falls. Way better than Munising Falls where you stand on an observation deck. View comments from the link to get proper directions! :)

It's a guest house converted from what was probably a storage shed or garage. It's next to the owner's house and this picture is actually from her backyard, but people who rent the guest house are allowed to just walk down and use the waterfront. That waterfront was awesome -- Lake Huron, and you can go out almost 50 feet before it gets more than 4' deep. Crystal clear (but cold AF).

Coincidentally, an initiative for voting by mail without reason in Michigan may appear on the 2018 general ballot. More than enough signatures were submitted, just waiting for validation.
The ballot initiatives could be really great this year with marijuana legalization, anti-gerrymandering proposal, etc.
It was really nice. Adding the amenities made it enjoyable for more people, but at the same time, it was nice that there were less people there! Felt more "mine" when I would visit. At most, I might encounter 1 or 2 other people on the trail going to the shore.
Funnily enough, I have a picture from nearly the exact same spot as OPs second pic that I took back in 2001 or 2002. You can definitely line up the pine trees and see the growth. Forgive the archaic digital camera quality from 2 decades ago!

There is no employer mandate yet. There will be this year for workers working over 30 hours per week for companies with over 50 employees. If the cost of healthcare is over a certain percent of their income they can ditch their employer healthcare for individual insurance on Healthcare.gov. My sister did this when her worker healthcare skyrocketed and I told her ditch it for Healthcare.gov.
She did this and now pays $5/month with better coverage as per the mandates in the law.
So you are telling me your business has over 50 employees? You should probably be able to afford the added healthcare burden.
You also can sign up through healthcare.gov. I saw it on there.

The easy way is to just walk along the shore and find a spot far enough away from private residences, but sometimes you can be walking for miles depending on where you start.
However, there are plenty of large segments of the lake shore that is completely empty, and this is why Google Maps is your best friend. Park your car at the nearest public access point (or in an area with a lot of houses, everyone will think it's someone elses) and start walking, and find a level area far enough away from the water. It's obviously illegal, but more than likely no one will give you trouble if you're safe and smart. Once you do it enough you'll start to know where all the gems are - the spots that others have used before. For instance, get to the beach from Watervale and start walking.
TL;DR Just do it. Go to the lake and start looking.
I’m not the poster, but there’s a few options. Places like Walgreens, CVS, and some Walmarts can still scan them, there are photography shops and people on the internet that will do it for a few - and usually will offer some kind of cleaning or restoration options too - and you can get desktop document/photo scanners that can do it.
I don't think it's so much the variety as the climate
Gardeners grow all sorts of tomatoes. Probably at least 100 different varieties of tomatoes, maybe more, grown in Michigan.
But I bet the bulk of them are the classic "big box store" varieties that are hybrids, not heirlooms. Think "Big Boy", "Better Boy", "Early Girl", "Beefsteak", "Sun Gold", etc
I would think you'd want to do the opposite of what you're trying - you need to find which local tomato varieties ARE good, rather than try to take a variety that does well in Michigan's climate and growing it in North Carolina
FWIW, This book has a lot of great advice on varieties of tomatoes and I think the author even lives in NC
It's a treatment for clothes and doesn't go on skin. It's similar to pet flea tick prevention.
You can buy clothing that is factory treated from companies like Insect Shield. Or buy the spray bottle and DIY.

Climate is changing but it doesn’t change that fast, lol.
There’s multiple reason this is happening. This explains a lot of the natural systems affecting.
I have a New Vape Flowerpot Weedeater. With a portable but desktop style heater, it needs an outlet, but it's smaller than a mouse for a PC. You get complete control over how fast and dark you get the herb.
But you need a bowl piece with lots of airflow, no tiny holes for air. And don't use a standard screen, it plugs up super fast and is a hassle. Use one of the coil style springs like this with a bowl like the one newvape sells with a glass piece with lots of airflow. I never burn anything with this setup.

There's an app? Is it good? Does it murder the phone battery, or is it content with using the GPS data that a phone is already collecting under normal operation anyway?
I haven't been geocaching in 20 years, but I did tons in high school, and it was such a blast. I used a Garmin eTrex Legend, which is still buried in a box somewhere around here and probably still works. That thing was just as indestructible as the Nokia 3210/3310, which were around at the same time.
That said, going back to using that teeny joystick to navigate a B&W menu would be painful coming from a 2022 smartphone.

To be honest, you will find water but not sand in the northeast part of the Lower Penisula. The shores are mostly rocky there. For sand and water you need to look at the northwest part of the state. Their arguments on a couple counts are extremely compelling with a 30,000 foot view of the entire situation. Whitmer made a huge misstep with the wording of the new state of emergency. With using the word "termination" and then assigns a "new" state of emergency on a "continuing" issue, she has clearly broken the 1976 law, and claiming unlimited power. There's a couple of examples of things that Whitmer forgot to executive order that the legislature asked to be clarified, such as problems with getting auto insurance with expired licenses and plates.
Also the brief does a fantastic job with historical context with the 1945 and 1976 laws. I never knew the 1976 law was enacted because the governor at the time found the 1945 law too restrictive to act in a case of a statewide emergency. That and the 1945 law has been enacted once since 1976 while the 1976 law has been enacted over 85 times.
Their arguments on Whitmer legislating over executive order are weaker and I expect that count to be dismissed. But the case on the first counts seems quite solid in argument.

VPN basically encrypts and redirects all your internet traffic to another location in the world so your ISP like Comcast can’t know what data you’re sending/receiving. This prevents them from interrupting illegal streams or taking legal action against you for torrenting. It basically hides your activity to prevent others from knowing what you’re doing.
You still have to pay for internet, but then you can use VPN to watch illegal streams or illegally download stuff with torrents.
VPN is easiest to do on a computer or other individual device that supports it in software. I install IPVanish (a specific VPN brand’s software) on my PC, click connect, and I’m done. It might be possible on a fire stick, but I’m not sure. It would be more of a hassle than on a PC I imagine.
You can also get a fancy router that puts your entire home network on VPN. That can allow VPN to work with devices that don’t support it. That’s a hassle to setup, but can be worth it in the long run. I know my dad has his entire network on VPN in Mexico to connect to the US to let him watch US Netflix on his fire stick down there.

It is like Facebook, there is an app as well. I wouldn’t jump into A new job without trying to go it on your own. Anything to do with home improvement and the trades is really in demand. I’ve called some guys referred on nextdoor and been turned down because they are too busy
Thanks for the answers. I wonder what these things percentage is..here is a link to the product I am speaking about.
Arms? Lmao
Do things outside in the dark. Look at the stars. Go exploring, whether walking or driving. If you wear a hat, buy a hat that fits in them rim if your hat.
A year ago on October 30, the high was 52° and the low was 41°.
I just moved to LA from Detroit and drove all the way down. My buddy and I really only stopped at a couple major points. Other than that it was mostly these obscure points of interest.
Depending where you're leaving from, seeing the Grand Canyon is a must if you haven't already. If you make your way into the pan handle of Texas, you could stop by the Cadillac Ranch and spray paint some cars. The St. Louis arch is a good place to kill an afternoon as well.
If I had to do it again, I wouldn't plan a single activity and just follow signs for any interesting attraction.
Check out https://roadtrippers.com it'll plan out any camp grounds / points of interest along your preferred route!
I was going to suggest this also. For a specific place to stay, there is an awesome little bed and breakfast downtown right next to my apartment building.
About an 8 minute walk to Bell's Brewery.
It's probably above 50 million by now if not more.
Detected cases =/= Actual transmissions
Get the denominator off by an order of magnitude, ignore T-cells, and blur risk by age and it looks far deadlier than reality. The US didn't implode itself in '57-58 or in '69. We should stop doing so now. Deaths have bottomed out in MI just like in Sweden, with or without lockdowns and masks.
Cases go up, deaths stay flat, hospitals ok (minus layoffs).
What was the goal again?
Cripple the economy? Take our liberty? Tip the election? Increase dependency on the government?
Those things aren't what I remember, but I guess the scientific consensus has become more correct since then...
"We had always been at war with non-maskers."
You make up an argument or stance you think I have and then argue against that
A strawman red herring

Right, you should have seen the look on my hoity-toity aunts face when she heard I bought a house in Muskegon Heights. Our road just got repaved, the house is in pretty good shape, just basically needed the bathroom redone and the neighbors were relax and nice as any i've ever met. 12k I am really happy. I did have someone come into my house while I was taking a nap last week when I left the door unlocked. They stole my macbook, but thanks to Prey I got it back from a dude who claims he bought it from 'some black dude' for $50. Man yesterday was a crazy eventful day tracking it down.
Many black cats have unique belly markings. If you can get a picture of that, it would help. Do you have Nextdoor.com in Jackson? Where I live, there are many postings of lost cats and runaway dogs. Also, the cat may have an implanted ID device which a vet or shelter can check.
I heart kalamazoo, but I dont live there anymore. some tips: Western Film Society and Kalamazoo film society play cheap indie, arthouse, cool films. Bells is great for beer, and there are lots of other Michigan craft beers (I like New Holland). Take your kid to the Air Zoo. the kzoo promise means a four year college scholarship for going to KPS. Kalamazoo institute of arts is worth going to. Awesome huge Donuts, but not for good coffee, go to sweetwaters. For good coffee go to Water Street Coffee. Martini's is great for pizza, and Crow's nest for sandwiches.
In 1985, two 27-year-old friends left their suburban Detroit homes for a hunting trip in rural Michigan. When they did not return, their families and police suspected foul play. For 18 years, no one could prove a thing. Then, a relentless investigator got a witness to talk, and a horrifying story emerged.
Been so long since I read this book but I believe some of this took place in the Mio area.
My dad found him at a garage sale but amazon has it of course.

Otherwise he's rather quiet and gets along well with our beagle.
This book does a good job speculating, based on climate science and geopolitics (the author is a military historian first and foremost, and a significant part of the narrative comes for US military reports on climate change).

I just got this it fits like a loose button down shirt and is my favorite purchase of the year. GREAT for layering. I much prefer it to my north face fleece. (I have a columbia hard shell to go over it, but also recommend Eddie Bauer like the other poster). I got these 'shackets' for my mom and dad for christmas too. it's really great. My shacket/tshirts/hoodies are medium and my hard shell is a large.
Merino wool socks are great. If you can get to a costco, the kirkland brand is pretty high quality, if not, I have two sets of these . They can hold a bunch of water weight without feeling wet.
Hats are really a personal preference, but I prefer the knit ones that have extra edging to fold over your ears (typical pom hats). I find acrylic to do a good job as long as it is a tight fit.
It has been a while since I've bought gloves, but thinsulate adds wind resistance. Scarfs are really, really nice when the temp gets below 30.

If you haven’t already, and you have a compatible phone, install the MI COVID-19 app. This uses the privacy-designed APIs that allow phones to “see” each other when they are nearby for an extended length of time. No personal ID is shared, only an anonymized code. If you test positive, you self-report in the app, and the codes from your phone are loaded to a central database, and people you’ve been near with the app will be notified. Your personal information is not exchanged, only the codes your phone has generated, and only if you self-report. The codes do not exist for any other purpose and cannot be de-anonymized. This takes a significant burden off our contact tracing resources.

So far I have turned up Potawatomi Indian Summer - more than two kids, but has the time travel.

Not the most fun thing to dump and clean at the end of your trip, but pretty convenient when your 2 burgers, 18 beers, and 4 whiskey sours decide to have a 2 am party
Way to prove Smith right there. Completely incapable of application of mind and instead nothing but lazy ignorance and you showed what a cruel subhuman parasite you are. The real trick is a little stump rot on the floor joists and a little while after you're already gone, the floors start sinking. Don't worry about the police, always hit them in the pocketbooks... or with a car. All violence against oppressors is self-defense. ;)
