Hey everyone! I posted a few weeks ago with concerns about the cut of my moissanite stone - it was cloudy, dull, and had no fire.
I left the company name out of my original post because I wanted to keep things objective, but the stone was from C&C and I was very disappointed.
After I posted and got confirmation from you guys that something looked off, I called their customer support and they sent me a special cleaning cloth free of charge to remove any “film” or oil slick from the stone. Honestly, I wasn’t super impressed with this resolution and didn’t have high hopes it would works, but I tried to keep a positive attitude until the cloth arrived.
Well, it arrived yesterday and holy crap. This stone looks SO MUCH BETTER! There is actually fire and sparkles to the stone. I’m so happy, I can’t stop looking at it.
I’ve heard that other people have needed to clean a film off their stone, but didn’t think I would have that issue with a brand new stone. So, if you’re having issues with dullness in your moissanite I would recommend you give the sunshine cloth a try!

Here is my earlier review of purchasing a wedding set from Tianyu Gems. I wanted to post a separate update after I took it to a jeweler for inspection. TL;DR- Tianyu is legit and awesome!
The jeweler did the acid test where they scratched both of my rings on a testing stone to leave a line and then drop some acid (heh) on it. Both rings are confirmed to be platinum, which I am ecstatic about. Then the jeweler tested the moissanite stones with an electric pen thing, and they tested moissanite/diamond. They also did a heat test and things got interesting. On their work bench, they had another moissanite ring they were fixing. They passed the torch over that stone and we watched it turn green. When they put the torch on my ring, it did NOT change color. I think this story serves as a testament to the quality of the DEF colorless moissanite sold by Tianyu. I am totally sold on their products and will look to them for future purchases.
Anyways, thanks again to u/autumngirlsoup for being their reddit liaison and convincing me to patronize them. I'll update my posts in the future to also talk about how they hold up over time. Thanks for reading, and thank you Tianyu Gems for giving us such great rings!

We just received our custom-ordered wedding set today from Tianyu Gems in China. AMA! I will write up a review about the process and answer questions tomorrow, since it's late here. We are also planning to get an appraisal this week/check for loose prongs/check to see if the platinum and moissanite are real. Mom always said "trust but verify". I'll update after the appraisal too.

Edit: Took the rings to a jeweler and verified that the platinum IS REAL via acid test. Interestingly, the moissanite was testing moissanite/diamond with their testing pen and when subjected to a heat test, it did NOT change color. They had another moissanite ring on their work bench that they subjected to heat and it turned green, whereas my stone stayed colorless. Guys, Tianyu is legit and we are totally sold on them!
I'm not sure I understand: you paid for moissanite in both rings and when you were concerned about their sparkle, you contacted him and he said "tough shit, that's the way cz sparkles"?
Were you supposed to have cz or moissanite? What does your receipt say you purchased?
Unfortunately there's no 100% way to verify the type of gem by video alone. You can pick up a cheap diamond tester like this one and moissanites will test as a diamond while cz will not.
I went on amazon and bought a 7mm (1.25ct equiv) CZ ring and had GF tried it on. It was like $17.

Are you still able to return/exchange? How do you feel about the 10x8? The dreaded shrinkage could set in also & you may end up wishing you'd kept this one... (I am NO help!)🙈😊

ring sizers are cheap on Amazon if that's available to you. I bought one.
Unfortunately, I've never tried the connoisseurs cloths (just the cleaner). But Sunshine Cloth is supposed to be the best at getting the scratches out.

I would go look at Helzberg. Depending on where you are located, there is one over at Tyson’s Corner. I was looking for the name of the Harro retailer that used to be in Tyson’s Corner but I don’t see them on the list anymore. There is Pristine Custom Design if you want to see the Harro in Falls Church. Looks like they have a small shop but mostly sell off etsy.
I second what moissyfan said. Try to see some loose stones first before committing to a setting so you don’t spend a lot of money on something you don’t like. You can either try to see them in person or order them to view and send back in their return period.
I remember somebody linking this article about Brilliant Earth last year. It follows the diamond from the point of origin but since they use virtual inventory, the same stones are going to be listed with many other retailers. I don’t think a lot of their claims are legit but they are very good advertising because their pop-up’s are everywhere. Here is some reading for you.

I totally know what you mean - you don't want it so huge it looks crazy where you definitely feel judged. But really, like a big old solitaire would be gorgeous - something you can dress up with bands or a ring guard even. Really bling it out when you're going out/feel like it.
I kind of did a real life experiment re: diamonds vs. moissanite (or CZ). I've mentioned it on here before :) But my ex bought me a moissanite e-ring (3 stone round brilliant - about 2/2.5ct total) letting me think they were diamonds. It was confusing at times because the "diamonds" looked so perfect to me, I'd stare at them looking for an inclusion or feather... yet I knew it wasn't CZ either... My family, friends & coworkers all genuinely complimented me - never had anyone pull me aside & say you know girl, maybe he's lying... Lol
But I hate when anyone/customers ask "is it real?" I know most people probably just mean "WOW that's beautiful" but it comes across rude. Awkward - almost an accusation. I'll just look down at it & say yep with a smile or "last I checked" & make it a joke. If someone is actually so rude as to ask how much it cost or how big is it - I just say "not sure it was a gift" & move on. But if someone who seems genuinely open & interested, I'll explain that amazing space rock :)

I don't think it would be too big, and it's a beautiful cut - I love larger stones myself :) I have a size 5.75 8x11 pear w/a halo (making it around 10x13-ish).

I got one from Amazon that I have been wearing over a year now with zero issues. It's a knife edge, so it has a little something extra, and is super comfortable. Zero issues with tarnishing, hasn't been prone to scratching. Here it is paired with my e-ring.

Hi! I am currently also shopping around for my elongated cushion moissanite ering! I recently purchased this cz on Amazon to try on only for stone size and have been wearing it around to see if I like it. I also want a plain band, but this is the only one I could find in the 10 mm x 8 mm size (and I’m sure it is bc I measured it with calipers when I got it). Hope this helps!

If you have a ring with a gem size you like, you can just measure it. Order a caliper like this to be precise. You can buy a stone based on that, or look up the conversion (8 mm is about 2 ct, just Google "# mm to ct" and you'll find conversions).
Alternatively you can try on rings at a store (even Walmart has cheap rings) and measure those. Or you could buy a cheap silver and gemstone ring in a size you think you like and try it out, depending on your budget! Here's a random ring you could buy in a 2 ct or 4 ct size 4 just to see how it feels.
Some people cut little pieces of paper to 6 mm, 8 mm, etc but stones tend to feel bigger because of the whole 3D aspect so I'd try to see them in person if you can.

I believe Moissaniteco will create any ring size you want. And the Chinese vendors will also make whatever you want. If you know what size/shape & style, maybe shoot a few of them an inquiry on Alibaba. I'd check with Starsgem, Tianyu, and Provence.

I bought a size seven. It’s listed as a 9 mm stone on the amazon page but two different jewelry stores measured it as closer to a 10x8.

Just wondering what makes the price difference compared to something like what I mentioned from MoissaniteCo.
I am very excited. It’s going to be a very simple and small backyard wedding. But I plan to make it beautiful and special. As for the rings, I’m noticing on amazon that some of the rings are listed as “brilliance moissanite solitaire” and others are just “moissanite solitaire”. Is it just a marketing tactic? Might have to try twice. I have a little container I use and do 60/40 mix cleaner to water. If that doesn't get it off I dunno what this could be. Never seen anything bubbly like that before. I clean my jewelry with this solution both yellow/white gold and silver like this all the time and never get the oil slick or any damage to the metal. I would try that first then reach out to the vendor.

You can also get temporary rings that will hold your stone so you get an idea of what it looks like off the finger. For my larger purchases, I always try out the stone first with a temporary ring so I can make sure I get exactly what I want.
I only have 2 (maybe 3 - unclear if one of them actually is moissanite), but this was an Amazon purchase that I was surprisingly pleased by!

I am currently using these little silicone spirals for my diamond solitaire. My finger swells and shrinks depending on the weather and I don't want to be resizing it multiple times throughout the year. At first I really doubted they would work but they work perfectly. Plus my ring doesn't spin anymore, which I know doesn't matter for an eternity but for a solitaire it drives me insane. Not sure how well they would work for an eternity band but might be worth a try :)

I have a cheap caliper off of Amazon. Its not the most high tech caliper to exist but it will absolutely work for what you need.
Did she say she liked the Hailey Bieber style or the HB SIZE? Because the style is one thing--I know plenty of women who like the general vibe of an oval solitaire but who don't necessarily want the enormous size.

I agree with others that smaller is better (#1 reason being that a 10x16 stone will BE IN THE WAY ALL THE TIME and be a pain to wear on the daily--hitting things, snagging, etc). I think you could get the same wow factor with say an 11x8 or 12x9.
Another thing to think about is the overall width of this set. If I'm reading your CAD right, you're looking at 16mm+ in width between these three. Depending on how long your SO's finger is, that might be too wide and uncomfortable, venturing on making it difficult to bend her knuckle. My fingers are pretty average and I have a set that's 12mm total, and it's as wide as I can go without feeling like my fingers are squashed.

I think in pictures and videos stones can be perceived as larger than they appear IRL. There's also some Etsy shops that sell kits of various sized loose CZ w/a stone holder - so you can "wear" them :) Also, in my experience, ovals tend to appear slightly smaller than other similar elongated cuts...

It sounds like a CZ price with plated gold. It could also be a preloved price if they are older. It is quite easy to see the refraction in moissanite in person by the way it sparkles. You could also take a pic of it. Moissanite will refract the dark areas by camera reflections. A CZ will stay white.
I would just go to Amazon Prime and buy some on there that are returnable. The brand new 1 and 2 carat tw weight in 10k are around the same price and returnable.

It came with some clear tape also but I didn’t need or understand how to use.
Unfortunately, a higher price and a US/Western based vendor is not always a guarantor on great quality either. Before I knew about Chinese vendors, I was pretty set on getting a ring through Brilliant Earth. It's US-based, well known, and their prices are certainly not cheap, but below name brand jewelers.

In the end, it's always a bit of a gamble. The same setting I got for my 1st e-ring would have been over 2000 USD (same moissanite size) with brilliant earth, while we ended up paying something around 550 with Tianyu.
For the 1500 USD difference, I can take the ring many times for many years to a local jeweler to check and tighten the prongs if required, round it again etc.
A custom setting like this in my country would have been easily over 3000 USD, and most jewelers refuse to work with moissanite. (And they certainly don't give a lifetime guarantee on wear and tear either)
I've seen pictures/videos of rings that were made by small local jewelers in the West and not all are "results of craft & art" either. Just like we might not like every hairdresser we encounter, not every jeweler is equally skilled just because they're located in a certain country.
If the Chinese rings don't last for 10 years, that's absolutely fine for me. I'll just order another one and am happy to be able to afford the variety. (In fact, we did order a second design already, so naturally switching between 2/multiple rings gives less wear and tear.)
As for your ring, the bent looks weird. If the vendor doesn't want to do anything about it, take your business elsewhere. It's sometimes a hard lesson, but better one with a couple of hundreds than a couple of thousands of dollars

Put stone in cup, spray till covered let sit 3min then wipe off with a paper towel. Don't use that polishing cloth as that has stuff on it to polish metals.

That’s about 77 more pieces than you really need for your one moisssanite :-) But I can’t find any sold individually. I like the white disk attachment that is several layers of fabric stacked like a layer cake for this purpose. But probably any of the softer ones from this kit would work pretty well. Maybe your BIL has one already. These are made from wool and cotton, so they’re very soft and won’t scratch your stone.
Use the polishing attachment with a couple drops of your silver cream on it. Set the Dremmel on its lowest speed setting. You’ll probably need tweezers or something to hold the stone since it’s unmounted. It should only take a few seconds of polishing to see a difference.

I once got a loose moissanite on Amazon before on whim since there was a lightning deal going on and I purchased an 8mm (2 ct) stone for about $40 instead of $80. I took advantage of the Prime free returns in case it was fake but I went to multiple jewelers and all but one thought it was diamond or knew it was moissanite. My mom was able to replace the stone on one of her rings with the moissanite I got.
Amazon may be an option for you if you have Prime. At least you can get free shipping and returns if you don’t like the ring.

I use an ultra sonic cleaner called “ukoke” from Amazon! Best purchase I have EVER made! I bought a jewelry cleaner with it but I feel it works best with Dawn soap! Just add hot water and soap and it works like MAGIC! You can get it here !

Each ring was under $60. The channel set is princess cuts but lack lusters, was way warmer than colorless stones. I’ll be returning it. The other one is from Doveggs. It’s super sparkly and I’ll be keeping it. It’s totally comparable to my lacie or bubble band.
This one has a bunch of different styles, so one of them should work, or could be trimmed to use as a spacer between your ear and your original backing if you need to fill in the gap.
